It's back, the imfamous Rapora Wars TC has reached it's minimal playability point, and now even I'm running for the bunkers.

Star Wars: The Rapora Wars-Test Game Jan 23rd 2004

Okay, it’s official, if you thought some of the mods out there were hard, this one will take the cake, especially if you play as the GFFA. Why?

Here’s what happened, in the first 150 days there were over eighteen space battles, EIGHTEEN! The Rapora wiped out 3/4ths of the starting fleet in that time and conquered four planets!!! Many times the Rapora would jump in, I’d order a retreat and they’d blast an MC90 or Imperial II without moving from where they dropped out of hyperspace. I only managed to score three victories against the Rapora, two of which were due to the AI being stupid.

Total GFFA losses in the first 150 days:

12 Imperial II Star Destroyers

1 Defender class Star Destroyer

6 MC90 Cruisers

4 Corellian Gunships

Total Rapora losses:

2 Paskla class Carriers

1 Alaga class Dreadnaught

What’s ironic is that is exactly the way it’s suppose to be, the Rapora are suppose to trash your fleet early in the game. I lost several ships but at the same time actually managed to take several planets in that same period.

I’ve still got work to do, the Raporan models need changed to objects other then the Imperial navy. The Star destroyers should look like star destroyers on the GFFA side, and I need to add some more cards.

I’m also planning on completely redoing the UI to give it a new style, anyway be ready for a whole new, and terrifying experience.

Sounds like a blast man. I just cant wait to see what all this ships look like in game. Especially your rendition of the mandalorian cruiser. My ivd card is still out of commission, so I cant work on it anytime soon, due to the fact I have no money. :(

The Rapora were created by Stellar_Magic for his own Star Wars fanfiction, he had modded the game to feature them in it, and they are also in the spotlight our little Online Roleplay. There is a brief article on them in the in-site Encyclopedia. :D

You act like it's already over, we've got a spin off RP and the original may be winding down but I'm not going to let it die yet.

I've been modding Rome Total War, I'll get back to this project in a week or two I hope.

Hmm, so are Raporan ships more expensive? What's to stop a human player from steam rolling over the Empire while playing the Raporans?

I think he stated before that reporan vessels are very expensive. But considering how many vessels a single reporan warship can deal with, it basically evens out.

Probably...

If you want to know who or what the Rapora are, you can either:

Look at the in-site encylopedia for a short article about them.

Or PM Stellar_Magic and have him answer all your questions.

Or I could just point him to our Game encyclopedia for the RPG... :D

Okay now that I've got the scanner I'd probably want to change how I create some of the ship images, I just got done with a basic image for the Raporan Tornclaw stafighter, what do you think?

Also Jedi Igor asked about the costs of the ships, well its a little complicated.

For example here are the stats for a Raporan Kar Lur Cruiser and a GFFA Defiance Class Mon Calamari Cruiser

Kar Lur Cruiser:

Construction cost: 80

Maintenance cost: 52

Hull strength: 2200

Shield strength: 2400

Turbolasers:

5196 / 1299 / 2598 / 2598

Ion Cannons:

0 / 0 / 0 / 0 / 0

Laser Cannons:

192 / 192 / 192 / 192

Fighter Capacity: 4 squadrons

Troop Capacity: 10 regiments

Sublight speed: 20

Defiance Class Cruiser:

Construction Cost: 30

Maintance Cost: 14

Hull Strength: 282

Shield Strength: 768

Turbolasers:

470 / 70 / 35 / 35

Ion Cannons:

40 / 40 / 40 / 40

Laser Cannons:

20 / 20 / 10 / 10

Fighter Capacity: 6

Troop Capacity: 4

Sublight speed: 19

Well these stats might change but they seem to be working pretty well so far.

  • 3 weeks later...

Okay its been a couple of weeks now, and two days ago I launched another series of tests, this time as both sides of this enormous war.

Here are the results:

Playing as Raporan Imperium...

Okay I start the game on hard, large galaxy and get a good first look at the Raporan Navy, guess what, I've got a killer of a force right from the start, 6 Kar Lur Cruisers, 1 Vaka Class Cruiser, 3 Savla class Cruisers, and 4 Paskla class Carriers. I immediately launch a series of attacks on the GFFA in every sector, usually using a pair of Kar Lurs in each strike force.

400 days later... I've booted the GFFA from the Galactic Core and destroyed well over a hundred ships for the loss of four Kar Lur Cruisers and a score of smaller ships. I almost smashed their headquarters but it slipped through my fingers.

You'd think after over a hundred ships reduced to debris they'd have been knocked back to their last legs... not so. The GFFA's cascade of reinforcements has begun and I now realize just how difficult the war on the Rapora side really is. Already my shipyards are full of orders but most of the vessels won't be complete in time for the coming battles. I've begun trying to patch up the gaps in my forces by building Vagaari craft and fighters, but the GFFA decides its time to strike back.

Wham!!!

Shipyard after shipyard is hit, all across the inner rim, my ship building capacity is cut in half after precise attacks by GFFA fleets with ships numbering in the dozens. My own fleet is barely a dozen truly good vessels. I'm being rolled back. By day 800 the GFFA is well on the way to completely recovering, still the Raporan war machine trudges on.

Playing as Galactic Federation of Free Alliances...

The GFFA's greatest advantage is numerical superiority, and I use it. After 100 days of tireless production I've built a fleet of thirty ships, a fleet large enough to go on the offensive. I strike several Raporan worlds before they manage to turn their attention to me. I sent a fleet of three Kar lur Cruisers on a merry chase across the Corporate Sector loosing twelve vessls in the process. (The darn Kar Lurs are the absolute bane when you try and retreat).

The Rapora went on the offensive and took two worlds, and a stalemate has ensued. I'm afraid I'll make a move and find a fleet of six Kar Lurs waiting for me... That would be the end of my main fleet right there... oh well.

It's not finished, and probably never will be. Soon after I posted the last few times my machine crashed and wiped the TC.
