Actually, the K-Wing was used to replace the Y-Wing. The B-Wing is still a main stream unit in the NR, through later versions (being the E1 and later the E2) of the craft straight into the NJO era.

The k-wing is 2 seater, short range (no hyperdrive ) atmosphere capable heavy bomber armed with two defensive laser turrets and 18 hardpoints. The hardpoints are like modern hardpoints, as opposed to the usual inbuilt launcher in SW - so it can be armed with a lot of weapons, including new warheads like the "shield busters" as well as clustering smaller warheads together on single hard points.

That's actualy some guys fan art of the K-Wing (which for some strange reason looks almost identicle to what I had imagined) that became the norm for a very long time until Lucas released the official design.

Actually my attack Bomber was based off of the Preybird Fighter more than anything. You can't see it from the above angle but in the actual design drawings I mirrored the Preybird's top wing and engines then connected them at the wing tips. Then in the large gaps between the two wing pairs I stuck 4 Starship grade Torpedoes.

I'll add another picture of that fighter somethime this weekend I hope.

 

(Btw; The K-wing rocks. The last one posted above, anyways.)

 

(I'm starting to go off topic I know. )

A couple of years ago I came up with a whole list of weapons packages for it that could be used in place of the Torpedoes, making it easily convertable to a mid-range interceptor.

The Commander dropped them off at an old hanger on the north side of the base and handed them a datapad with the activation codes for the vehicles. "Help yourselves. Now if you'll excuse me I have a transport to catch to my security bunker."

 

The hanger doors were already open revealing three weathered but tough looking starfighters covered with dust. A squared off cylinder for a fuselage with two sets of cross braced wings at the back which bent down to connect at their tips. Two small phase cannons were mounted on each wingtip and four cylindrical engine pods were mounted where the wings met the fuselage.

 

"Hop in the back seat Commander." said Dian, opening up a hatch on the side of the fighter. "I used to fly these beasties back home in the Republic." He closed the hatch and bolted it down then jumped up and clambered into the front seat.

 

Alex threw his pack in the small cargo space behind the passenger seat. "This thing is kind of small isn't it?"

"You'll get used to it, that or have a claustophobia attack. Now." He gave Alex an insufferable grin." Shut up and get behind me... Sir!"

Alex started to strap in. "You've been waiting to say that for weeks haven't you?"

 

Ignoring Alex, Dian reached back beside his seat and pushed back a panel exposing a group of circuit breakers. Fliping the breakers to the 'ON' position, the fighter came to life. A fairly audible hum ran through the ship.

 

Alex looked questioningly at Dian. "A bit loud isn't it?"

"This is nothing. I haven't even turned the engines on yet, the sound dampeners will have to turn on then."

"Sound Dampeners?!"

 

Alex felt four dull thuds followed by a deafening high pitched noise. The sound dampeners kicked in and most of the noise dropped away.

 

"How can your people stand noise as loud as that? You've got more sensitive ears than me!"

Dian continued to flip switches and press buttons oblivious to the fact that Alex had said anything.

"Dian?" Nothing.

"DIAN!" He shouted hoping this would work.

Finally he tapped on the young man's shoulder and Dian looked back at him.

 

"Oh sorry sir you were saying something?" he responded as he pulled something out of his ear.

"I had my ear plugs in. They realy help cut down on the noise these lady's make when they start up."

 

"I'll bet."

"The start tends to be louder if the fighter sits for a long time without use. I'd say this one's been three years in this hanger."

"Will it fly?"

"Of course it will, it's a Republic Defense Yards ship!" He keyed the short range comm. "Hey Velsa, follow me!"

With that he lifted the fighter off the ground on it's repulsors, swung the nose arround to point at the open hanger doors and kicked in the engines. Alex was slammed back into his seat from the sudden acceleration. As soon as he cleared the hanger Dian put the fighter on it's tail and accelerated straight up.

"Are you trying to get us killed kid?" Shouted Alex through clenched teeth. Velsa taxied out of the hanger before engaging her engines then came roaring after them.

 

After a few seconds her voice came over the comm. "Switch to Vanguard standard frequencies. Let's get ready to head out."

Hmm... What I'd do is have a 3D model of it, take a screen shot and draw overtop of it. But then I'm lazy. Too lazy (and busy) to do something that awesome.

Multi Role Fighter designed for use with the Hunea Republic ('The Republic') entered service in RY 3051. These fighters were designed and mass produced long before energy shield systems had been suficiently miniaturised to fit on starfighters.

 

They are equipped with powereful engines and suficient fuel stores to launch from planetary based instalations, acheive orbit and maintain combat ability for 3 standard hours before returning planet side. Durring the design process the Terran Alliance provided the plans for their SP Torpedo to the Republic. These weapons became the mainstay armament for these fighters in anti-capital ship actions.

The Republic's use of mass-starfighter tactics allowed these comparably inexpensive fighters to decimate enemy fleets.

 

When lacking proper Interceptor support, these vehicles can be stripped of their torpedoes letting them match speeds of the Kavarian 'Enforcer' Starfighter.

Sure, please do! I never got into 3d modelling, but I'm sure you can make this look good!

La_forge, I sketched this with my tablet in Photoshop. The original concept came into existance in uni, as a pencil sketch. But my scanner is non-functional at the moment, so I had to create it from scratch.

Thanks, I'll try to do the model first with that pic (helps with practice ). Though if it comes out ugly, and perhaps for areas of the ship I can't see, I might grab some schematical diagrams of it off you

-One minor change to the sword, the hilt is now "furry".

I'd have liked to use more of the snow like substance on the sword, though it not only takes ages to render (as it's a particle system using meta objects that link to one another at different proximities like water), and any more would crash both of my computers - I had another scene with volumetric light, though that would crash with the snow

 

And I think I'll do some more work on Fishy's ship
