Krytos
Thanks Def, those'll help a lot. I'll be looking into your model tomorrow - currently, I'm working on something for a portfolio. I've made a low poly model and I'm working on the highpoly for normal mapping. Since the low looks boring, I'll start showing the high. I've got to state that the art isn't mine, but some early concept work from Bioshock (not in the game). I went to a game expo on Friday, and that was there and kinda got me hooked. erm..also there's that MP7 I should kinda finish too. http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4775/monsterprocess01el6.th.jpghttp://img209.imageshack.us/img209/6484/monsterprocess02hn3.th.jpghttp://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2158/monsterprocess03ik4.th.jpghttp://img255.imageshack.us/img255/8341/monsterprocess04bi0.th.jpg I've only done the top half of the thing, underside, legs, arms and head are yet yo be detailed. http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif
Defender_16
Congrats! It's freaky. You can make a decent warship out of any bucket of bolts in Star Wars. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/LeonoreCruiser.gif

BTW will you explain to me how to create and use normal maps? @Def: Impressive piece of ship you have there! Here are pictures of the finished ship. Defender_16
Looking good Mad. Now for the question I ask about most SW vehicles...how does it handle in Atmosphere? Tie Vengance yet again, this time with a topside view. Hadn't previously put one up because they all looked crappy. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/TieVengeanceTopSmall.gif

Defender_16
Ok got a bit of an update on the Cruiser. (No not just more colour.) Both now have the retractable protective armour around the external fighter docking points. Yes, that's right, the fighters go on the outside of the ship like the Tie's in the escape pod hatches in Wraith Squadron. The class is designed to carry promarity the Tie Vengance and Tie Vandal but others can be used also. Standard design carries 4 Squadrons while the expanded design carries 5. Both ships use the same Heavy weapons pod system. Standard pods have multiple fixed forward Turbolasers and energy storage capacitors for them. These Turbolasers are normally fired Gattling-gun style to maintain fire. Some of these weapon pods also carry Torpedo and Concussion Missile launchers. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/CrusaderClass3.gif The Interiors of these ships are filled mainly with Armour, Shields, Engines, Fuel and Energy reserves. There are no opulent living spaces like what would belong to an Admiral on a larger Imperial Ship. Heavy Turbolaser Turrets, 3 top, 3 Bottom, are the same type used by the ISDII, which mean each one has 8 Heavy Turbolasers. There are 10 Quad Turbolaser turrets and atleast 4 Dual Heavy Turbolaser Turrets as well. There are 38 weapon mounts that can be configured to carry either; 1 Turbolaser, 1 heavy Ion cannon or 1 Quadlaser turret for point defense. Standard pratice called for 14 of these turrets to use Quadlasers to provide minimum adaquate protection against Yuuzhan Vong Fighters. With the lack of interior space the main landing bay is normally reserved for small crew transfer shuttles or for heavily damaged fighters. If room inside the bay isnt available for fighter repair work, the area inside the protective armour outer docks can be temporarily presurised via mag-con field. When launching the armour is retracted into the space next to the hull allowing the fighter to make a quick launch into space.
Mad78
I like the concept but what is this retractable armor buisness? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Palpycard.gifhttp://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/Mad78/Spamkinguserbarcopy.jpgCLICK HERE IT IS VERY IMPORTANT!!!Click here is you like Trance

Defender_16
I like the concept but what is this retractable armor buisness? It's a combination of two ideas. 1st, the 'drop launch' from an escape pod dock. 'Night Caller' article @ Wookiepedia[/url]"]After Wraith Squadron captured the ship, two of the four TIE fighters were remounted at the escape pod supports And 2nd what I like to call the "Garage Door"http://drgaragedoors.co.uk/media/garagedoor.jpg Resulting in...http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/droplaunch2.gif http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/droplaunch3.gif
JanDeis
Oh, that is simpler than what I was thinking. I thought it was something like that one ship the Galactic Alliance used in the Vong War that had a second outer hull. It could fake death, and then obtain the element of surprise in the middle of the battle. Does anyone remember that ship? Your idea just sounds like a bunch of mini-hangars with space enough for 1 fighter to launch from. Am I right? Or do they hold more? http://www.freewebs.com/deisgames/index.htm

JanDeis
Yup, that is the one. That idea of a secondary hull system always intrigued me. As does the redundant shielding systems of the Mon Cal line. I was never a fan of ships of the line like the ISD's, but I lean more towards the exotic and custom ships like those used by Tyber Zann and other people used. That is also why I like the Rebel designs, because they are pretty much designed off of scrap that they could throw together without it bursting into flames at the first sight of an Imp. (except of course ships like the X-Wing who were initially manufactured by some odd company). I might start designing ships and posting them here, but they won't be anywhere as good looking as Mad or Def's designs, but I will get my point across. http://www.freewebs.com/deisgames/index.htm

Defender_16
Your idea just sounds like a bunch of mini-hangars with space enough for 1 fighter to launch from. Am I right? Or do they hold more? hmmm.... basicaly. But they arn't really intended to be a true hanger. They're not presurized normally and the 'garage doors' wont hold in an atmosphere without the help of a mag-con field. Also, the bays arnt seperated from one another when the doors are open. It's just some sections of durasteel armour milled down to act as protection so the fighters wont be damaged if they cant launch. Each one of the door sections has enough room for one (1) general size starfighter. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/DropLaunch4.gifIt is intended to utilize Tie series starfighters, specifically the Vengance/Vandal series but most Tie starfighters can be used without modification to the docks. Tie Bombers and B-wings will not fit, though the Y-wing might. (I still need to scale a Y-wing to check that.)All S-Wing starfighters in use by the Crusaders are modified to use Tie starfighter docking gear. Wow, I feel like I'm image spamming this thread with low quality arts.

Moribundus
Oh my god, how could I have missed this thread? It's bursting with wonderful ideas... It reminds me of one of my earlier idea for a drone carrier. It's ventral side was filled with similar drop launch bays and it's dorsal side was heavily armored (and equipped with laser turrets ) The basic strategy with this ship was to face the enemy with dorsal side for better protection and in the meantime to launch the fighter drones to swarm the enemy fighters (and to keep them away from the vulnerable 'belly'). However my graphic skills are poor and the ship ended up as something between a mushrom and a bulk carrier (take a bulk carrier and put mushroom hat on top of it) -rebellion2 enthusiast-Terra Reconstructed
Defender_16
I had this one plan a lot like that except it used an Alleigance SSD and instead of Droid Fighters it launched Troop ships. I tried it in a Rebellion Game where I had Clone trooper regiments that cost 1 maintinence. EDIT: Sun Nov 25, 2007 My first attempt at re-arming the ISD series. http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/DestroyerFirearcs.gif EDIT2: Bad suggested this.http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h293/Defender_16/DestroyerFirearcs2.gif
