I have decided to create this thread for people who do not only use gmax for making models for rebellion but also to make animation and higher detail models. So if you have any questions just post them and somebody may have a good answer for you ( that does not mean always you Mask )

Okay i shall start.

I am wondering if anybody would know how to make an explosion effect for a gmax animation?

despite what you just wrote, I'd just like to point out, that you can't render animations or even pictures in gmax

 

I do most of my stuff with 3dsmax 5, but choose gmax for the tutorials, since everybody can afford it.

I ask because of a competition in which i am making an animation with a mate. And my mood ain't help by the fact that my cmputer crashed and caused the lose of a turret i had spent an hour working on.

Well, that's another important lesson then.

I save my stuff every ten minutes, or if there's something finished, that I don't wanna lose. Hitting that shortcut CTRL-S certainly won't hurt

I shall not make the same mistake when i make my next model.

But my motivation to remake the model is rather low at the moment.

 

I will consider getting 3ds max one of these days since I get heavy reductions since i am a student.

If you can, get version 5. I'm using the same one and from what I know from TK, 6 seems to be quite unstable.

 

Dunno about 7, though. But 5 should be cheaper

Nah, my prof just said I should write to discreet with a copy of my student "passport" (dunno the word for Immatrikulationsbescheinigung right now) and they'd write you back.

You may mean students card. i remember once falling on a site but can't remember the adresse.

But I know what you mean, as soon as it takes a twist towards bureaucracy, law or medicine for example, the length words grows exponentially.

And also the fact that german words are easily combined to form new words.

I have just found that you can get 3ds Max 7 on Discreet online store for 100 Euros.

If it's as stable as version 5 and you can easily afford it (or someone would want to make you a useful xmas present ) then I'd call it a bargain

But its the student version. I wonder what it means. i am going to investigate.

Knew it!!! The program only last 2 years and you have to send proof and what not to proove you are a student.

A bit too much trouble.

Since this is a public forum, I don't want to discuss about ripped, cracked versions but...

Has it any downsides, when you own a cracked version only?

Well, I can't say for sure, since I don't own such a version.

But I'd say, it depends on how good this modification is, hmm ?

Well i think it also depends how crackable the program is but i don't know anything about that kind of thing,

and you have to watch out for cracked versions cause if they are smart enough to do they are smart enough to put in not so nice and healthy bits for your pc aswell
