Have fun reading the article (the RTS info is all the way at the last pararaph and says NOTHING).

However, we can assume from the rest of the article's tone is that the RTS will probably sell well (i.e. LEC finally realized advertising works! I guess anyone can advertise where only skilled people can produce quality games). So prepare to see another WarCraft clone in Star Wars. YAY!

(actually, it would be nice even if it was that good).

What really makes me sad is that they're wasting their Star Wars license on making the big bucks when they could spend just as much on hiring more creative talent and they'd sell just as much from word-of-mouth (I mean look at Counter-Strike, that didn't need any advertising).

But hey, there's also a 0.0001% that they'll make Rebellion 2!

Interesting. Well, as long as the game doesn't turn out like Galactic Battlegrounds (a carbon copy of the Age of Empires series from Microsoft), or a dismal game like Force Commander, I'll be happy. With games like Battle for Middle Earth comming out in the near future, I;m more inclined to believe it will be along those lines. It's not going to be like Rebellion in any way, though, since Rebellion is not an RTS, just an SG. Vey interesting find Igor!

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Well it shouldn't be too bad. i looked up the developpers site and it appears they have worked on just about every Command and Conquer.

Well, Mad's response got me interested so I scoured the internet for more info on Petroglyph, and found this website:

http://commandandconquer.filefront.com/file.news?ID=9358

It looks like most of them are ex-Westwood (which means they can produce a game that doesn't suck! yay!), and that they've been working on a game as far back as March 2004 (maybe LEC is the "mysterious" publisher?).

This is good news, but on the other hand, do we really want another CnC clone? I just don't see how base-building makes sense in the Star Wars universe. We all read the books and there was never one planet under contest for a long time, it was mostly spaceships coming in and dropping off thousands of troops while the defense frantically tried to stop the invaders.

Base building makes sense (sort of) on a planetary scale. But because Star Wars is on a galactic scale, it really doesn't make sense to me to make these kind of games.

I mean honestly, would you let an enemy set up an HQ a few hundred miles away from you if you could bombard the **** out of him with your spaceships or spacefighters?

I agree with that, base building doesn't make sence on a galactic scale, but there is the possibility of a Forward Operating Base. Sure, the troops in Iraq aren't building a war factory to pump out more tanks, and there are no training camps, but that's the real world. They are looking more at gameplay for this type of game. Really, had Force Commander been slightly different, it would have been the best way to make an RTS for Star Wars. Your troops were delivered to you, not trained or built. I say we wait and see before we get too critical of the game (not that any one has been thus far, just my opinion).

Aww, I was hoping for some space-based strategy game. With capital ships and fighter squadrons and lots of turbolasers and BIG SHIPS THAT GO BOOM. I WANT BIG SHIPS THAT GO BOOM! IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK?!

[cough]

Oh, well, I think I'll have to stick to Warlords.

Green Corellians.
 You don't even know, how close to the truth you are.

Is this Warlords something for multiplayer too?
Errm, the Homeworld 2 Warlords conversion ? 8O

That's everything it is for. I just either have to find some people on the next LAN to play it against, or time for a LAN at all.

*sigh*

Yeah, you can't really play it against the computer, cause he's an idiot and just builds Corellian Corvettes and never uses hyperspace. If you play as a Rebel it's just too easy to hyperspace a few X-wings in ,torpedo run, then hyperspace out (hyperspace is cheap cheap cheap).

If you haven't already, pick up a copy of Warlords, and if you don't have Homeworld 2, well I can help you *acquire* it ;).
