Alright, I know that every one here is a huge fan of Star Wars, but is it possible to take it too far?

Sure, there are those who dress-up as stormtropers and Imperial officers and parade about, but that's nothing, people do it with real wars, so that's alright.

Then there are those who spend loads of money on collectables, but that too is not uncomon.

So I ask you, how far would you go with your obsession? Would you have your wedding party dress up as Twi'lek dancing girls and Weequay guards, or drive little Lando to school?

This came to mind as I was playing City of Heroes (an MMORPG). Some one had started a Star Wars supergroup (clan). I thought that, in a game based on super heroes, that was a littlbe obsessive... well, before I joined up that is  . I certainly wouldn't name my children after fictional heroes and villains, nor have my wedding Star Wars themed, but I must admit, looking more closley at some of the things I would do, it seems obsurd in retrospect.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

I would prolly duke it out with someone in a movie theatre line with lightsabers but i dont think i would make a wedding based on SW. I would prolly sport the Stormtrooper gear and what-not as that would most likely be pretty cool seeing the reactions on people's faces.

I think it's taking it a bit far personally but ever person should know these things for him/herself. Interesting though, that only 4 people posted whereas 8 people voted...

Sshhh Scath

I voted for the last option - got nothing against those who dress up, kinda think those who name their kids after some Star Wars characters are weird (well, calling anyone Greedo is just weird :P ). And using a lightsaber to cut a cake . . . .ahh, enough said

I'll stick to the movies, games and books

Just saw this thread and although I don't own a 2000 bucks stormtrooper suit or duel with lightsabers at the movies I just had to take the first option, for the sake of it being hilarious

For the rest of it I'll side with Krytos.

(I had voted but not posted... heheheh)...

I'll side with Krytos on this, I have nothing against the people who would name his kid Thrawn or Roganda, or the folks that parade around in Stormie uniforms, but I wouldn't do any of those.

Trej, we all know you would if they had Vong armor for sale.

Some of those can be kind of deceptive, I mean how many Lukes, Jacens, Jainas, or dare I say it, Anakins do you know. There's nothing wrong with naming someone those names, but naming a person Greedo, or Thrawn, or even Daala is going to far.

The Star Wars wedding is probably the worst one on the list, and yes they do exist...moving on.

I might wear a some mandalorian armor at a convention or something, if I ever went to one that is.

The only person I would name my kid after would be Thrawn (especially if he had blue skin). Beyond that, I only wear Star Wars stuff to conventions (none of which I have attended, sadly) and maybe I will (if I can make some) to EPIII.

...now, I have thought about naming my eventual kids Gaius (Julius Caesar), Augustus, Caesar, Hannibal (Barca of Carthage), Alexander (the Great), William (the Conqueror), Marcus Aurelius (my cousin, the one who likes the prequels, is actually named this), Hadrian, Constantine....

It would actually be quite an honour to be named after a great person in history. I personally like the names Isacc (Brock, Sir), Horatio (Nelson, which would be a middle name), Arthur (Wellesley, Duke of Wellington) and Phineas (Rial). I also like the middle name Hazard, strage as it is (after Oliver Hazard Perry, American Commodore on Lake Erie).

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Well, for two of those some (not me) would argue that they were despots, and not very honouralbe to be named after... though Djengiz and Atilla have gotten abad rap over the years because the victors write the history books.

Dude, developing? What is wrong with you? You're an outcast...

And all this time I thought you already were obsessed :?

Of course i am obsessed

My family name is actually the same as the one who wrote the SW music.

And yes its Williams and my third name is Francis which sounds a bit too pompous.

Naming a child after a famous person isn't a bad idea even if I wouldn't want to ame mine Napoleon. :)

Russell Crowe in STAR WARS? 8O Why didn't I think of it before!!! 8O

A few other names would include: Charles, Muhammad, Abu Bakr, Sadartha, Hamilcar, Hasdrubal, Mago, Gisgo, Isabella, etc. I believe that names are VERY important and that simply naming someone a random, useless name is dishonor to your family's name and shame to your child/ren.

...besides, who would want to be named Scathane (or Trejiuvanat, for that matter)?

That glimpse of Russel Crow actually comes from my Baron Fell card; not that I have any objection to anyone using it for any Reloaded matter. :)

He was so hard in Gladiator. I spent days after the seeing the movie telling my local newsagent my garden smelt like an orchard in Italy after the autumn rain, whilst purchacing my daily newspaper. I would bow at the London tube ticket vendor before approaching his window to purchace my ticket. Scrape some dirt from the pavement and crush it fatefully between my my fingers before greeting a college in the street with a pained 'i'm about to decapitate you look.'

Whilst sitting in my office I would periodically yell out stuff about what we're up to now will echo down through eternity, overlooking the fact everyone was either checking their hotmail account or surfing porn.

In the cue in the cafe at lunch I would burst out out with yell 'HOLD THE LINE!'

And it all sort of went pear shapped when negotiating a pay-rise with my boss, I began to tell him it will happen in this life or the next. I got the sack.*

*All of this may actually be bollocks.
