Well I think I've discovered the problem with my video card. Apparentley I need to download separate drivers for Open GL. The problem is, the only company that I can find that has them, glsetup.com, doesn't seem to be up, and all links to their drivers lead to their site. Does any one know where I can get GL Setup?

GLSetup ?? 8O Haven't seen that in years.

Usually the OGL abilities are included in your reference driver, like the Detonator XP (or forceware, as I believe it's now called) or the omega drivers for ATI cards.

What card and what drivers do you have ?

I've got the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (128, not the 256). I just updated to CATALYST 4.10, which was just released. I tried the Omega drivers, but wasn't impressed with the performance, so I switched back. Some of the Omega features are still installed, including some of the Open GL aspects of the drivers. I also uninstaledl the SMARTGART as some people say that can cause problems. As yet I have had no reocurrences of hte problem *knocks on wood*, so hopefully the problem is fixed.

EDIT:It would seems I spoke too soon. I was playing for a while and then BANG, it froze.

What exactley is the difference between 3D and Open GL?

EDIT II:Well, I took the easy way out and got another video card (that is, I returned my 9800 Pro and used the credit towards another card). It seems my system doesn't like ATI Cards for whatever reason, so I upgraded to an NVidia 6800 for $60. Everything works fine now. Maybe ATI's drivers aren't as compatible with OpenGL as NVidias?

I works very well! :D I've been playing most of my games with 6x AA and I get no lag. The only problem is that one of the games that was freezing my computer, is still freezing, but it's just the game, not the computer. I've already sent a support e-mail to the developer, so I hope to have the problem fixed... especially since I', paying monthley for it!

Alas, I have not been able to play a game of Warlords with it since it always dropps out on me... hopefully Eville will somewhat fix that with the next release. Battlefront rons fantastic. 1600 x 1200 with full AA and AF!

It was actually pretty cheap, only $399 CDN. Im still a little worried that the NVidia tab under the advanced display settings doesn't have a section to set OpenGL settings, but I'm not having any problems.

Well, I would reccomend taking anything better than a 9800, but the 9800s are still a very good video card. As with everything else, it depends on whether or not you want to be "future proof" and spend more money, or go for what's good right now. The 6800 and X800 (X700 and X600 too) are all next-generation video cards, so they'll be sufficient for the next two or so years. The 9800 (XT, Pro, or SE) are going to be pushed to their limits in the future. So, in the end, it all depends on how much you want to spend for performance.

Thx. I took your advice to Scath in the Animated Gif thread and cut out every third frame. There are still over 100 frames, and the gif is still 900k in size, but once it load through the first time, it's no biggie.

If a gif goes fast anought the amount of frames doesn't really matter. A trick i learnt while making my first attempts.

BTW i don't know if you have noticed DJ44's Avatar (his first one ever :D ) i made it for him after have sudden inspiration. :P

What do you have left to get? I'm assuming you still need a video card... :D

Well, I can't speak from experience since mine is just a 6800. You also have to be sure to get the most recent Microsoft supported Drivers. The drivers NVidia has on thier site right now are not supported by Microsoft, and as such were causing me grief (causing Warlords to freeze if I zoomed in). I found better drivers, from NVidia, that for some reason they didn't release on their site, that are supported by Microsoft. You have to install them the hard way (update your drivers from the hardware profiles section), but they work better. They're designed for Gf 2 and up, so basically, if you have an NVidia card, let me know and I'll post the link.

GAT, OpenGl is just another display mode for showing 3D stuff, like DirectX for example. It's often used as an object lesson in higher semesters of multi-media-oriented classes, like computer science.

Btw, what's the name of these alternative NVidia drivers ? I never had problems with the DetonatorXP/Forceware series so far, though. Maybe Windows will say, that it doesn't pass the logo test, but that's all

The drivers are called ForceWare 65.73 WHQL 2000/XP. They're by NVidia, so I'm not sure why they haven't released them on their site. They work better than the ones I downloaded from nvidia.com, no more freezing in Warlords and what have you.

Thrawn, that was exactly the driver I was talking about

Before v60 they were called DetonatorXP series.

Mad, did you never have WindowsXP complaining about a driver not being certified from MS (aka: "failed the Windows logo test") ?

I'll assume you mean on my system. I have 1 GhZ of PC3200 DDR memory. I can't recall the brand( which has a big effect on performance).
