Browsing this site with an Apple Mac!

Just a quicky, but that's all i've got access to at work these days during the day, and whilst the site's front page loads normally, the forums are all screwed layout wise, and nothing much happens when you actually try and enter one.

As you can imagine this is bloody annoying; is it some conflict with the php nuke thingy, or are just Macs simply crap? I'm not impressed by them.

Technical peeps?

Interesting LF, but i'm getting more convinced it has something to do with the php nuke; so i'll contact Stratus and see if he knows whats up.

Other than that, Mac's aren't that impressive, as so many people have been making out. They start grumbling if you've got to many windows open, and have very annoying features, or lack of stuff PCs have (no right clicking on a Mac!)

Yes, I also experienced it. Mac is not much for the web, but it's not his fault. Most of the web layouts are only working well on pc enviroments, 90% of them are ONLY working perfect on IE. Things will be messed up in Firefox or in Netscape (which is a crap anyways). That's really sad, because IE is the most buggy an errorous browser, still all pages seem to be optimized for it. I had such problems with my page too. Took a whole day, to make it look the same on all browsers (and it's still not perfect).

Mac's are mainly used by designers and publishers. Dunno how it works out for other jobs though...

Most pages are optimised for IE since it is the most popular one. People use it because they can't be bothered to download another browser. I switched to Firefox and love it. But you know there are ignorants in this world... Stop pointing at me!

Your last point is what's perplexing me the most at this moment in time dude! Simply, why? Since i've been in this new job and suffering on a MAC, i've noticed less efficiency in photoshop, less ability to surf between various operations, and absolute dreadful performance on the web. The one-click Mac mouse has been the most painful learning curve, especially where I spend most of my online day at b3ta; it's simply inferior to my experiance on a PC!

My home PC is now almost five years old, but I can use it with more freedom here and everywhere than the 'monster Mac' i'm suffered to spend my day on at work! Frozen gifs etc... I don't want a single muscle-bound piece of lard capable of one objective, who turns out to be wieght lifting some shadow on the wall....

Before you assume my Mac might be shagged; it apparently is not by any yard-pole. 'This is just how they work,' is the feedback from my new office companions.

Umm... I could be working at twice performance on a PC; but there you go...

Or even better: if they would finance you a state of the art laptop.

For ... uh ... efficient working :roll::lol:

Ask them if you can use your home PC at work :P

Oliver my friend, can you picture me on the London Underground every morning with my 'pc?'

Thought not!

Edit: It's just occured to me that i've access to 800,000 high resolution images of all life's most famous people, so feel free to give me a shout if you want some snappy-shots of whoever for your various 'rebellion projects.'

I'll see what I can do! :)

Bottom line is Apple Macs are carp, in reality demonstrate none of this 'more reliable crap' i've been subjected to for years, and most imprtantly; don't work on this site. I had such expectations for the Mac when one was thrust infront of me, but after just over one week I can reliably report they are absolute crap.

Edit: So what;s the thrill with Gates me is now wondering?

I don't think Mac is crap, and neither do I think that they are better than a pc. As for difficulty in working with a Mac, I guess it dpends on what you started out with...

Most people use Windows by habit. The fact that 80% percent of pc use that operating system has surrely something to do with it. i don't have much troubl switching between the two but Jahled apparently does.

You have several 8O

The Powerbook is that laptop with the gigantic screen isn't it? I hear they are quite good. I find Mac are good as working computers, where their speed and their stability is very practical but the fact you have to buy MAC versions of games does that I will never use one for gaming.

Unlike most of us, Scath does have a job, one that requires him to be in touch with potent computers. Plus he didn't say he owned them only that he used them.

So as an astromech he only plugs himself into the Mac Astromech port to access the site. :P

I have skillfully deduced some underlying points from this thread:

1. I cannot afford a laptop to solve my problem at an instant whilst at work, and it is exceedingly unlikely that mad78's dad is a rich Swiss banker prepared to give money away to complete strangers.

2. I have established it would be impractical to commute with my PC on London Underground to and from work. I can't read the newspaper whilst holding it at the same time.

3. Whatever is said, I think Mac's are crap, I don't like them, and I can live with Microsoft's dominance in the computer market, because in my own personal experiance, the alternative's seem to be not as good to have to work with. Anyway, today, I got a ticking off for laughing to loudly at stuff I came across on the web, and subsequently was told not to surf the web. So i'm looking for another job. This one is boring me to tears anyway. Life without the net is unthinkable. It keeps me sane. Here's an example: Today I was told to 'clean-up' an entire set of photographs of Courtney Love topless live on stage in Australia from Feb 1999!!! AGHAA!

4. Koala's have big fluffy ears. *

*Arn't you bored yet? For god's sake click here then! :(

Perhaps NIIIC's father is a rich swiss banker. Don't give up hope, eventually will get a swiss banker to make donations for dweeby web communities like ours.

Try taking your home PC on a public bus in a third world country.

Aghaaaaa!!!!!! I think my mind's eye was blinded after reading this... Jahled you sick man!!! I'll have nightmares today...

Probably your most skillful deduction.
