Yes, but this is normal between EU countries. Switzerland, on the otherhand, is what we would call a tax-free country when it comes to international import and export taxes...

I live in Switzerland which, even if it is in the heart of the EU, is not part of it (we love neutrality) So all i know is that when i order stuff i get extra tax.

What do you mean, we have less import taxes than the UE (or EU in English). CH (Switzerland) is in the middle, we are getting quit a pressure to join it. The main argument against it is that if we join, we will have to give up our secret banking system, which is one of the main industries of our country:twisted: . Expect that, I think it is a great thing. Of course, all great things have hidden sides, look at the Empire , great thing  , but with one or two hidden sides  . To get back to the UE, it is a move towards the “utopic“(do you say it like that) idee of a world with no borders and no pore people. Of course, it is just a small step, but at least it is on.

Personally, I think CH shouldn’t join the UE till they accept us with a banking system...

INTERIOR DEATH STAR DAY - IMPERIAL CORRIDOR

A long corridor stretches out seemingly endless. An astromech crashes repeatedly on the walls, then turns and crashes again.

SPEAKER: Crazy astromech in sector D.

Another metallic thud caused by the astromech.

SPEAKER: Repairdroids down to sector D, corridor Besh - 5

The astromech takes impulse and crashed against a bulkdoor and drops on the floor unable to get to its 'feet' again. From its domed 'head' a golden liquid oozes out.

Two humanoid droids walk down the corridor and approach the fallen droid. One extends a metallic finger and touches the liquid.

MAINTENANCE DROID 1: Looks like this one had plenty of that Corellian junk.

MAINTENANCE DROID 2: Droid Liquor should not be allowed on Imperial ships. This one had even begun to talk about Outer Rim Politics. Help me get him up and bring him to the workshop.

The droid pick up the fallen cylindrical droid and take him with them to a lift.

Interesting topic.

I for one one think the idea is good but I dont know if the EU will really become anything more than just a trading bloc. Too many European nations have histories that date back a long time and I highly doubt many of the countries will give up their sovereignty to some super-state.

Europe already has a history of alliances and so on which formed massive countries, just take a look at the map of Europe before World War 1 for instance.

Overall though Europe needed to form some kind of trading bloc. This is the only way for instance for Europe to compete with the US economically. The US is already involved in massive trading blocs such as the Asian Pacific ocean one (whose name escapes me at the moment) and the NAFTA one of course. The US and Japan and China alone account for the majority of economic activity in the world, as a result its best for the European countries to form some kind of trading bloc for its members to help spur some economic activity.

Agreed, though developments right now point towards more than just a trading bloc. We're currently in the process of voting for a European constitution.

Thats very true. It will be interesting to see how things turn out there in Europe with regards to the European Constitution and how much sovereignty the various countries are willing to cede away to the Union in general. Defense pacts and so on are easy to understand and I can see that NATO for the most part is outdated, the Russians really do not possess the same kind of military they used to.

True, but I do not foresee NATO dissolving in the near future. I'd sooner see the EU consolidating in NATO... Moreover, there is a greater need to cooperate now more than ever...

Well, as some of you may have noticed , there's a lot of fun and games going on with regard to the European Constitution to be... especially in the Netherlands. Recent polls have indicated that a majority of 60% of our people is against ratification of a European Constitution at this point. There are similar indications in France. Europe is trembling...

I watched their preisdent's speech. He makes me laugh every time i see him.

He is so overly charismatic.

What do you think France will do now?

I havent lived in Europe in a long time so I dont know how the political climate over there is.

Well the french governement is in a hard position. You see the president had been campagning for the Yes so its not sure how he will react. I think he will try and keep the confidence of the french people.

If France doesnt ratify this constitution then what happens to the EU exactly? I know that France and Germany are big players in the EU. Germany ratified the constitution I think but as for France since they all voted no to it any clues on what happens to the EU?

I am pretty sure in England there will be a no vote if they decide to do a referendum there.
