Any Re-Encators?

Recommended Posts

Have you ever organised a full scale battle?
Sadly, not anything with the numbers you saw in the pictures (we had a total of 50-60 Roman legionaries; there were numerous civilians and gladiators about, as well). This past event was the largest Roman re-enactment "get together" that has ever happened in North America. In Europe, though, the groups tend to be large and are paid, thus they get together quite a bit and hold full scale wars for weeks at a time. I wish I could participate...

Well, as I am getting more and more serious about my re-enacting, I have decided that I need to choose between by two hobbies: computer gaming, and re-enactment. I enjoy the latter more, so I have decided to sell my monster of a computer and use the funds to support my history habbit.

Fortunately I'll still have acces to the internet via my mother's computer, but I'll be reduced to playing only Rebellion, unless I'm visiting my dad, at which time I can play pretty much anything.

Hopefully it will sell quickley, but who knows, there are a lot of other computers on there.

History is on the move, Captain. Those who cannot keep up with it will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Are you mad, man?! :o Don't sell the computer! :o You will regret it later, especially if the re-enacting you do turns into a phase or you find something more interesting. Instead, a job is the answer! :)

Well, I already have a job, so that's not really of much assistance right now  . As it is, if it does not sell within the week, I'm not going to make repeated attempts to do so. I'll just slug it out with my reenactment.

The SPAM Corps will still live on since I would still have acces to a decent computer, so no worries there.

Right now I have the computer listed at $1250 CDN, so it's around $900 USD. Really it's not that expensive, but I doubt it will sell since there are a lot of other systems on e-bay as well. Some of them are listing their specs at AMD 4000+ processors, but to the best of my knowledge they haven't been released yet, but I could be wrong.

Is that in USD?

It would also cost you more because there is shipping involved with mine. I think it's $100 just for shipping within the US and Canada. Then again, my computer is a beast...

I'm almost hoping it doesn't sell. After two days without it (I have it disconnected, and I gave my sister my 21" monitor [which I'll be wanting back if it doesn't sell]), I've got the urge to play something.

I have had a change of heart. I will not destroy you planet, but rather enslave it to do my bidding. Wait, that's not what we were talking about, was it?

Right, the computer. I've also had a change of heart about that. I think I'll have to dind a balance between re-enactment and computing, for sanity's sake. Who needs a $1200 officer's coatee when I can have some one make if for $400? Yes, I think ,y computing machine will remain with me, if only to fight along side my fellow spammers whenever I want.

The box on the left is my graphics card, the box on the right is my motherboard. I have done a little bit tweeking on my machine, htough I haven't built up the courage to over-clock it. Well, that and I have no idea how to do it.

The video card was $500 and the motherboard was $115. I wouldn't recomend the KT6-V MB that I have. It's nice that there is on-board LAN and sound, but it is rather finickey with things like video cards (doesn't like ATI cards) and BIOS settings.

This weekend there is a Roman event in Knoxville, Tennessee (USA) where the History Channel will be filming scenes for a new documentary concerning law and order in the Roman Empire. I'll be there dressed as a Praetorian Guard carrying the infamous "scorpion shield" of the guard while getting paid $50 a day. So basically, I'll be getting paid to play! :D

The weekend after that will see Castra Romana in South Carolina occur, a small yet fun event open to the public (unlike the History Channel's event). :D

As soon as I can get pictures from one or both of the events, I'll be sure to post them. 8)

And here is the resumé of the fall of the roman empire
Haha.

Any how, the History Channel shoot in Knoxville went well. I got to be a gladiator for the first time and did, according to the other experienced gladiators, better than anyone else they had ever seen as the type of gladiator I was re-enacting (I was re-enacting a gladiator who carries a trident and a net). I walked away with eleven cuts and a few bruises, thus it was fun! :D

I also played a Praetorian Guard, a citizen, and a vigilante (police/fireman) on top of being in charge of outfitting the actors in period accurate equipment and clothing. :D

The show will be airing in the Spring. :D

Next up, Castra Romana this weekend! :D :D :D

  • 3 months later...

I remember someone asked about Star Wars reenacting and I made a joke about not being able to due to a lack of dewbacks. Well, maybe some you know about this but I wasn't aware: The 501st. These are a bunch of Star Wars fans from all over the world who make Star Wars costumes. There's an outpost in my local area I plan to join and I'll be sure to post pictures of my future officer's uniform and stormtrooper armor. We still lack dewbacks though...Scath, Trej would either of you like to volunteer?

EDIT: Jeez, I must be an idiot! Mad posted a link to the 501st on page 1! I'm either an idiot or blind!

Whatever uniform they give you, pray that it isn't a snowtrooper uniform...

:| I'm sorry, what? :|

Do all imperial officers wear Levi Jeans? i think your link is wrong.
 Laugh it up...yes, of course it's wrong. What I obviously meant was The 501st Legion.
