Guest JediIgor Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Maybe as they were doing their research, they came across bits of the old design from AOTC and decided to improvise upon them.
Trejiuvanat Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Actually Tarkin appropriated the concept for a "expeditionary battle planetoid" froma young Engineer Raith SIenar (Sienar Republic Systems future Sienar Fleet systems) after the ZOnama Sekot crisis and presented it to Palpy. AOTC shows that a more fulfilled plan was provided to Count Dooku and the COnfederacy. After Palpy became emperor, TArkin having been since the beginning of the project would have requested Paply to allow him to oversee the development of the project. I got this out of the NEW Essential guide to chars, i havent read rogue planet so i don't know any further details on that... http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Nice, but we do have to remember that while Lucas approves the books, he has always maintained that they are not what will happen in the films. I got a SW Classic tpb at the weekend, where Luke infiltrates the construction of the Executor. It's wicked. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... the_mask Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Tk, the Han Solo books are really worth reading. They show some great character development from the young and inexperienced Han to the sullen and selfish smuggler he was in ANH. Elvis, the plotting was the only thing that kept me on the bounty hunter wars But after the first book had soooo much 'barve' in it, I nearly despaired. But I also liked the Jedi Academy books, Daala runs through one defeat after another and can't explain, why the tactics taught to her by her mastermind mentor suddenly don't work anymore. So she resigns somewhere at the end. There's a bit of Shakespeare's 'the tempest' in there http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted December 16, 2002 Posted December 16, 2002 Yeah, having the mind of a 4000 year old Sith Lord in a young corrupted Jedi Knight tends to do that to you!!!! That and the fact that she was using tatics that were nearly 10 years old, or there abouts. SDhe had an awful lot of potential, where is it that she reappears though? Elvismiggell. ricepr2001 Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Some of the books may be bad in your opinions, the charactors are not developed as much as they could be in some books but the plot is still good in most of the books, If you are going to rate KJA by a few books dont do it by his worst books, the Jedi Acadamy isnt that great but it is still worth reading, how can you say the sun crusher is not sensable, they had a death star in the movies, and that same crew with 10+ yars resarch with nothing but resarch could easily create something like that, and acording to lucas it did since lucas approved the book Why are people afraid to die? It is a natural part of life. Life and Death. They go together. Some people are just willing to speed up that process.
ElvisMiggell Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 Well, i love them all, even the Crystal Star, because they all take a universe and expand on it. SW is probably the best known fictional universe in the universe, if you know what i mean... Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Loserboy Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 **** ---- Waring based on nothing buy my opnion and it does not have any merrit outside my skull. ---- **** Well according to Lucas Jar jar would make an exellent addition to the SW universe, so I don't value his oppinion that much. But I guess it's just human nature, from the earliest tales their have always be some sort of ulitmate evil, from dragons to suncrushers. This does not mean thats this makes a good story or plot, it makes it entertaining to the masses. It's like comparing Brittney to Bach and sayig "hey it's both music". (must have something to do with our evoltion from prey animals) Good writers are able to shift the focus of these almighty weapons to the charchters, the weapons can still be in there but are not obscuring everything else. But this does not mean all the other books are crappy books by any standards. These books have been creeated to entertain, and entertain they do. But they don't make you think or care about any of the people in them after you close the book. Unless of course you are a true Starwars fan. But there is so much great literature both old and new in the world to enjoy, that it's a waste of time to read books like those written by KJA unless you truly and enjoy the universe. Oh and on a side note, I did an amazon search on KJA and found about 93 books, of which there where at least 70 in the SW-universe.(The rest was dune and X-files)Exluding doubles and hard/cover this still leaves about 40-50 books. Does this strike anybody else as a bit much, Since Lucas only started to aprove Sw books in the early 90's. There are great writers who never write more than 10 books in their entire live. And yet KJA manages to do this in less then a decade. Hmm "Quality or Quantity" anyone? (which btw is also the title of a kickass Bad religion song. ) Oh and on a side note I never was a big fan of deathstars .(It seemed like a waste of resources why build one station when you can also build 10 fleets that can wreak havock on 10 different planets at a time) But at least it was less ludicrous that the suncrusher, because it took the infrastructure of the whole empire to construct these blasted things, not to mention the gazillion troopers, techs and officers. The suncrusher on the otherhand can be be piloted by a hand full of people, is impervious to TL and can fly straight thtough the superstructure of ships and can come out the otherside without problems. And on a side note they can blow up suns, and withstand a blast that rips appart planets. Not to sure about that last part. At this point I was already searching for a flamable porcupine to hit KJA with. Well I'm of to the dentist Just enjoy whatever you are reading be it a television guide, KJA or Shaw. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------If you believe in telekinesis, raise my hands. **** ---- Waring based on nothing buy my opnion and it does not have any merrit outside my skull. ---- ****
Jahled Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 I think the Suncrusher was a very silly idea. The scientific repercussions of Supernovas is devestating. The radiation waves steralize systems light years away.... They reckon if Earth's nearest stella neigbour went nova our own entire solar system would be cleansed in the radiation wave. Not what you would call a tactical weapon....especially when our solar systems is on the outskirts of the Milky Way, and stars (>hence, systems) denser the further into the Galaxy. Sullest? Lets take out the rest of the Sluis Sector while we're at it..... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
ricepr2001 Posted December 20, 2002 Posted December 20, 2002 things like jar jar make the sw universe more real, we have people a lot stupider than jar jar Why are people afraid to die? It is a natural part of life. Life and Death. They go together. Some people are just willing to speed up that process.
ElvisMiggell Posted December 23, 2002 Posted December 23, 2002 Look at university, many of the books aren't a gripping read, but are necessary to your course. Several uni lecturers i know have to churcn out a book a year in order to provide the material needed to study the subject. These books are specific to the people that will use them, not the ordinary public, the same may be said of SW. Some of Shakespeare's stuff was truly awful, unless you're a fan... Elvismiggell.
