Stellar Magic/Rapora Wars Discussion

Okay so now I've got two big, huge projects. Cain has probably become intimately familiar with one of them, Stellar Magic. I've been dropping clues all over the place for the Rapora Wars project.

I just want to know what you think of both of these fictional chains of events. I expect Cain to post what he thinks of SM:TMA (Stellar Magic: The Merlin Academy) and maybe some suggestions for the Rapora Wars Series.

Any and all input is welcome.

I think it sounds cool but I don't know what the Rapora are or anything like that. I also am not too sure about the Star Wars world after the Jedi Academy series. If you give me some info, I will be a bit more helpful. Also, your posts are very huge, so it might take me a while to read and write back.

And for the events after the Jedi Academy trilogy, you can always look them up in Timetales. Be warned you'll spoil yourself everything after KJA's books to TUF.

EDIT: It seems that the Timetales are down for recontruction... There are some links to other timelines... You could try those...:roll:

Well I'm going to post the first Chapter of Stellar Magic: The Merlin Academy, even Cain hasn't seen this version yet. Don't expect me to post much more from it though, Stellar Magic I hope will be something I can write and make a living off of. Enjoy.

Stellar Magic:

The Merlin Academy

Intro: Secrets of the Past

For millennia man has existed, ignorant of his past, of the truth that can only now be found in myths and legends, for history becomes rumor and rumor becomes legend and myth before all memory of the past is wiped away. Yet, that past which was shaded by the sands of time slowly returned to haunt humanity.

Long before man took flight and reached for the stars upon a jet of flame a dark time was hidden. For four millennia the truth had passed away, crumbling into rumor, myth, and legend. Some had become wary of the truth for the discovery of ancient cities once thought only myth gave rise to doubt. But still the truth remained hidden, and from it all the horrors of modern war paled in comparison. A dark cloud was fast approaching for those ignorant of history were about to see it repeated. The first time had been long ago when the darkness came. A tyrannical rule by creatures who stood above humanity masquerading as gods, and from their hand and their technology the great myths where born. As the darkness grew men and women began to stand and fight against it. Wizards, powerful men who had sprung up from behind the dark curtain of tyranny demonstrated powers that would vanquish the invaders. In the end the darkness withdrew taking with them their loyal subjects, but they would return.

They return on February twelfth, twenty-fifty-two, but they were not prepared for the war they found themselves embroiled in. Before long the keys to wizardry and magic were rediscovered. Now two millennia since the return of the Dark worlds upon earth, the Brotherhood of wizards is at its most desperate, and it is here our story begins…

Chapter 1: Everything Changes

A solar sail ship, its hull scarred by weapons fire, flames arching out its torn plates where atmosphere escaped, its metallic shape colored golden by the light of a nearby star slowly slid through the inky velvet of space. Glowing balls of plasma rushed in at it, burning through the hull ripping holes in the vessel open to space. A solid line of blast doors along its side slowly ground open to space. With a flash a volley of brilliant orange plasma fire shot from the gun’s contained within them. Crews in fully sealed scampered across the deck behind the doors. Manning the enormous plasma cannons housed there, monitoring power going into the guns, removing spent gas canisters from the breaches and tossing them away into space. They worked at a feverish pace to restore their guns for another barrage. The enemy was faster.

Another volley of golden blasts of glowing hot plasma shot through space slamming into the side of the vessel. Energy blazed across the gun deck as the blasts hit home. Several guns were vaporized from the fire along with their crews. Still the crews hurried on readying their guns. At one end of the gun line a fully suited crewman lifted his arm to confirm readiness of the crews. Twenty gunners raised their arm in turn. The radio communication had already broken down under the intense jamming of the enemy. With a flurry the officer snapped his hand to his side. At that moment the gunners pulled their lanyards returning fire into the night.

Two decks above on the bridge a man strode into the carefully controlled chaos of a ship fully engaged in combat. He glanced to the ship’s commander in his navy blue battle dress in the command chair issuing orders to those below him, his eyes studying the holographic image of the space around them, “Admiral where do you want me and the journeyman?â€

Thats very helpful Stellar, and I agree with Antilles, that's some good stuff. What exactly is Rapora? Is it a race, a planet or just the name of the war?

Well right now I'm working on the second draft of the sequeal to Stellar Magic: The Merlin Academy. I'm hoping that I'll be able to finish polishing the Merlin Academy through College. Hopefully I'll be done with it by November...then there's usually a twelve to eighteen month delay between submission and when a book shows up on the shelves of Barnes and Noble.

Here's another snipet of The Merlin Academy:

It was a two hour walk under the best of conditions, but with rest breaks, and the lack of light it took them nearly four hours to reach an exit near their objective. They exited in the shadow of a mountain of dead coral and an enormous crater lay out before them. Four Gre’Hujin Assault Transports lay in its flat center, with orcs patrolling around them, guarding them against any threat. Jade slowly lowered herself into a small depression so that only her head was above the surface, “Mara, the sensor head.â€

Strange? Could you please be more specific?

Actually I've had some other students read it, and a rather unusual thing popped up.

 I'm not sure why exactly, but most of the Female readers absolutely adore the character of Mara Nellprin and how she acts...specifically with James.

This is partly a spin off of my own philosophy on what a perfect relationship would be...for one thing Mara and James have skills and interests that overlap, they know each others strengths and weaknesses and from that comes their ability to overcome the obsticals I drop in front fo them. They were best friends before The Merlin Academy and only became boyfriend and girlfriend after they'd been reunited.

 People of the male gender tend to like the combat sequences and the competitive parts of the book. They like the dogfights, gun battles, and sword fighting. (I forgot just how much I gave you Cain, what was the last thing that happened in it?)

One of the things I'm changing a lot in final polish is just how James fares in each of these. Towards the start of the book, James seems to have combat abilities he hasn't trained for, this is being corrected.

 Strange? Perhaps the relationships seem strange because of the complexity of the characters. I tried to keep some of the characters less predictable then others, especially Mara. Their characters are more complex then what you'll find in most other books.

For example the character (You might not have read this far) Marco Remus, who constantly competited against James helps to try and rescue him. He's got two motive, and each one is relatively subtle.

1. Marco feels he owes James after the incident in the Laser Craft competition.

2. Marco is going with Krista Chamberlain, partly to protect her, and to show her that he isn't the demonic type which he seems to be portrayed as early on. (In the sequeal Marco and Krista actually start dating. I'm also adding a couple seens to make it known that both are attracted to eachother.)

If I went back and analized say Mara's actions, the motive become much more complex, instead of one or two, there may be seven or eight. Hence a complex and to most female readers, an extremely realistic protrayal of the character Mara Nellprin, the Tom Girl (Don't understand? It's US slang for a girl that acts like a boy.)

I better stop here because I'm starting to sound like an english teacher.

Maybe something gets lost because of your poor english...

Its not an insult but English is known to be one of the most complex languages on earth, and hard to read even for us.

For instance:

The man slumped to the ground with a crimson stain blosoming on his shirt.

(More difficult to understand but more artistic.)

The man fell with a red stain on his shirt.

(Easier to understand but less artistic.)

The searing heat of firing left the weapon's metal bores glowing dimly in the inky darkness.

The heat of firing left the barrels glowing in the night.

Its all about striking a balance between the two styles, and if you do it right... :P

It's not an insult, but do you speak other langauges? Spanish and/or German are far more difficult than English.

I know some german...and yes the syntax and sentece structure are different, but English is more complex in most areas. For instance, just think how many words we have for dog...

In English:

Dog, pooch, hound

In Germam:

Hund (I'm not sure if I'm spelling it right.)

And it only gets worse from there...

Fear, terror, scare, fright, coware...

The english language actually has millions of words... 8O Because of this its impossible for people to know every single one, and even more improbable if its your second language.

Brethren, Family, House, Ancestory, Lineage, Relations, Siblings, Kindred...

I'm growing fatigued, and tire of the morose nature of this post, idle and dull yet?

Need I go on 8)

Spanish is richer than English, english might be richer than German but I find German more versatile.

Sure you'll never learn all the words in english, nor will I learn all the words in Spanish, but in German you can always build new words, which works really well with adjectives.

I had some introductory classes in Spanish, never got far though.

You're right with germans building words...

No one else would say:

Fallschirmjaegargewehr

As one word.
