The Alliance Strikes Back (A Protectorate story)

(Quick acknowledgements and some author banter: Thanks to the RDB for creating the Mod of the game, looking forward to the next one.

I was a bit confused by the storyline of the mod but I believe I’ve figured it out. Hopefully I have covered up my misunderstandings with suitable story points. I am thinking I’ve messed up the entire storyline in that Luke doesn’t go to The Protectorate until he gets the event that would be training with Yoda. But for the an in game story I had to take some liberties. Also I was originally going to wait another week or so before starting a new story but after playing this one for a little while it was so fun I had to write a new one *pats RDB on the back once more*.)

The Protectorate

Prologue:

Skywalker arrived at Hoth with his full force of the Protectorate. The Alliance fighters scrambled and he knew that they assumed his fleet was an attack force. He smiled to his 2nd in command Kanor Darel, “Perhaps I should have sent word ahead of me?â€

 Thanks CP I have added your stuff in a new topic in RDB II Forum.....The first story is a little of track I never imagined Luke hiting Hoth since in the game he is already on the alliance side at Hoth .... he must go after Hoth to his father and stay there for a period of time also I was thinking that Ozzel defected at Hoth just before Vader tried to kill him since Ozzel was a Rebel colaborator in a way

Well I've found some of my story mistake fairly early on, but the mistake I made was in reading Steller Magics stories from the Protectorate and using that as the set up. There are some failed links I think in the game, when Luke goes to Yoda to justify his time in the Protectorate but from my understanding of this he doesn't join the Empire until after he leaves Yoda (i'm assuming Bespin ends with him not escaping). Also since in my game Ozzel started out with a fleet, and the Alliance fleet was a bit more powerful than I expected, I wanted to use Luke's and Ozzel's defection to justify the fire power. About Ozzel I just assumed there was previous tension between the two and my Ozzels generally look out for #1 so I put his defection in to be right before Hoth.

Also there's a bit of a mistake, these aren't individual stories they're chapters in the whole story

Story time:

Chapter 2: Han’s excruciating wait

Han was freaked out by the Protectorate leaders, which is why he was glad that Tyberan was due to be transferred. The Rebels were really getting ready to back Ozzel and the Strike Fleet. Han was being assigned half a dozen Special Forces units of Elite Protectors, and Bothans. Han gulped the last of his drink (there was no sipping in the Special Forces tavern), The Redemption was the Flag ship of the entire Rebel Fleet now and Ozzel had gotten his position on the Advisory council. Han also sat on the Council after his recent appointment, likely to soften the blow of loosing the promotion to General, to Special Forces Commander. This meant… paper work.

Han made it a habit to drink before filing a report, just to spite the powers that be for putting him in this job. But he didn’t just have to file a report for his people’s operations, he had to do so for the entire Rebel ops. Oddly enough, to him, they had decreased but with the Alliance finally tapping into the resources of the Protectorate that would likely change.

The latest meeting was another battle between Luke and Leia, Luke had come across the Katana fleet and brought them for refitting and remolding into the Rebel fleet. Now Luke was pressing for his special forces agents into use, and the promotion of Tyberan was the hot topic of the debate. Han had been the one to find Tyberan on Sullust in the first place, he agreed with Luke that the man was too talented to just drift away. But Luke was pushing for making him the Admiral of Homefleet, the single most powerful and, no matter what the propaganda said about Ozzel, important Rebel fleet.

The Rebellion was quickly fracturing between those Pro Protectorate, Anti Protectorate, and Use em when you need them Protectorate parties. Han despite wanting to be loyal to Leia fell in with the last, along with a majority of the Rebel leaders. The Rebellion needed all the good leadership it could get, but even Han saw a little danger in placing one in control of the Rebels most powerful fleet. It was a matter of trust and Luke’s boys hadn’t gained that yet.

Here he was again, same tavern, same people, different drink though; he’d been here so often that he needed to mix things up. Tyberan was gone; he got the appointment after Mothma intervened in order to keep Luke in the good graces. Han figured the kid was going to stick around for the long haul this time and that the star treatment only made his own soldiers feel better. Han had found Huoba Neva at one of the Orto Shipyards and convinced her to join the Alliance, she was being sent to Homefleet to counter Tyberan, of course that wasn’t the expressed objective but everyone was aware that was here purpose.

Ozzel was expecting to leave by the end of the year, Han kept considering going to see Jabba but decided that by now he wouldn’t leave alive even if he had the money. He promised himself someday when the Alliance conquered the Empire and established the New Republic he’d visit Jabba with a few dozen regiments of troops and a Mon Cal Cruiser or two at his back. Leia was boosting Allied support in the Sector and running a recruitment mission during the waiting period. What exactly they were waiting on was unknown, at the moment it was the Escort Carrier Shooting Star and the troops for the Bulk Carrier.

Ozzel had pressed for the inclusion of the Star because he believed the fleet needed more fighter cover, which was true they only had three X wing squadrons and one Y-Wing squadron so far. Han was getting tired of waiting, he wasn’t finding much in his recruitment searches and he was eager to get going. But Ozzel was wanting to make absolutely sure they had everything they would need for the jump because they would not be gaining new ships or fighters once they jumped into the Sector.

Chapter 3 The attack is renewed (or I swear the fighting will start sometime)

The Imperials came out of hyperspace over the Rebel shipyards of Corellia apparently intelligence failed the Imperials because a Rebel Fleet was deep in the works there, the Victory and Imperials Star Destroyers withdrew quickly and the fleet decided not to pass up the opportunity. The Victory had already fled to parts unknown and the Imperial soon joined it.

Seeing an excellent chance the fleet bombed the planet, the laser fire was answered by a Golan station which responded in kind, destroying an (empty) Bulk Transport. Only three imperial Regiments were on the ground so the fleet attempted to take the system by force, General Evaders kept that from happening. Frustrated the fleet of General Dadonna jumped into the system, all assaults by him failed as well. What’s more Dadonna tried to bomb the system but lost a fully stocked Escort Carrier, in response to one failure Dadonna led the his men to attack Tralus, which caused Drall to declare neutrality from the Alliance.

Han was hearing about all this from the prison guards, who decided to taunt him with his comrades failure. Han wasn’t sure why he was still on the planet, apparently General Fett could not get out of duty long enough to collect the bounty on Han. It had all been part of the initial covert ops Han was sent trusting he could get the job done, however as Ozzel was quickly finding out the Empire wasn’t about to loose this Sector without a fight. Charmath was protected by Zuggs and many troops were lost on both sides to take the planet. Still Han was confident that the rest of the operatives would get him out.

As Han was stuck in Imperial prison Ozzel was trapped in a military situation, the Imperial fleet at the moment was splintered but with each engagement they began to combine. The best hope the Rebels had was to systematically catch the individual ships, or begin boosting their own. Ozzel need Solo to gather intelligence but the smuggler was trapped and nobody could get him out. Ozzel would just have to do it himself.

Unfortunately the anger clouded Ozzel’s judgment and he forgot to get a proper supply of troops off of the planet, the assault to rescue Solo succeeded by the entire populace was trying to throw the Rebels off. Luckily the uprising was subdued in a few days, but the Rebel edge had been blunted, and Ozzel knew something would have to start working or else the offensive may remain in limbo indefinitely.

But this is what the shipyards were for and the Alliance had an abundance of shipyards and fleets, training yards in the hot spots were what they lacked. Into this conundrum an Imperial Fleet inserted itself over Khomm. There were many more intelligent options open, sabotage, ignoring, or attacking an Imperial planet. Instead Ozzel decided to attack the Imperial Fleet led by Afyon.

Three Dreadnoughts, Three Star Destroyers, and Three support ships… Ozzel was beginning to think he should have looked to see exactly what he was facing. The battle wasn’t pretty, the X-Wings were the only life line the fleet had and they were under manned from the raiding of the Imperial territory. If an extra wing of X wings had been available perhaps the fleet could have succeeded perhaps if the Y-Wing had been replaced more than a Corvette could have been destroyed.

The Alliance limped away from the battle, seriously damaging an Imperial Star Destroyer and Carrack Crusier, loosing the Swift, a Bulk Cruiser and an Escort Carrier that was too slow to get away from the Imperial Ion cannons. Also the Wind took severe damage almost being destroyed hull value was about 10%, the Redemption had taken heavy fire from the Destroyers and lost its fire power and shields.

*Chapter wrap up – Council meeting*

Mon Mothma sat in the midst of the leaders of the Alliance it had not been a good time for the Rebels Skywalker had just returned to the Alliance after withdrawing for personal reasons. The President was preparing to order reinforcements for the attacking fleet. Currently the fate of the Battle of Khomm was being discussed, Drayson was currently attacking Ozzel and demanding his withdrawal from the Sector.

“We are not beaten and we will not give up our foot hold in the Sector because of one defeat, you are forgetting that the Imperials took damage as well they have two sides to defend perhaps three if and when your fleet begins moving. We can rebuild my fleet it wasn’t meant for heavy battle anyway, I shall add more capital ships and star fighters.â€

Will do, but I will probably wait until its all done and post in one big glob that way I don't get an undo promotion via postcount

(More Author Banter: The next installment is full of sloppy play of course that won’t be apparent in the story because one it mostly dealt with manufacturing, and two I’ve calmed down since I got done. Originally I had a glorious battle that I could write about where the Imperial fleet was destroyed… unfortunately the game crashed shortly before I was about to save and quit so what you get is nothing at all spectacular to play but hopefully I can make it a decent (or at least interlinking) chapter.)

Chapter 4: The Turtle pace, Crisis in the Sluis Sector

After the defeat over Khomm Ozzel ordered a withdrawal to Charmath leaving Kardde on the ground as a general to hold the system of Firro. Ozzel would have liked to remain there but he knew it wouldn’t be possible he needed to fall back and regroup. The Escort Carriers were being stocked in Sluis that would give him everything he would need to start pushing forward again.

Still he waited on the Planet Ackbar and Garm Bel Iblis took command of the convoy of Escort Carriers once they arrived. The two fleets raided a few planets before heading back for Firro, it was tactically unsound, it being so far from the main base but Ozzel still wanted those shipyards and he would have them if it was the last thing he did as Admiral. The defending fighters were dispatched easily and the bombing and assault took place shortly thereafter. Having worked out his anger Ozzel began to once more think clearly. He was working with Ackbar now and both of them agreed that destroying the Imperial Fleet in the Sector was something that needed to be done.

Unfortunately the Imperial Fleet dispersed, the thought of those three Star Destroyers not being known was enough to send a shudder down Ozzel’s spine. As he waited for the Diplomats make bring the loyalty of the people of the Firro system back up Ozzel put his capital ships into the repair yards, The Redemption gained first priority.

In Corellia the Diplomatic corps wasn’t a problem the process of taking the system however was excruciating, the attack on Selonia finally succeeded and Bevel Lemilisk was captured, with their super weapon designer taken the Rebellion considered it a powerful blow against the Empire. There were also rumors traveling throughout the Sector fleet that Luke had had a confrontation with Admiral Daala and the two had a great Light saber duel. Luke smiled when asked about it, he had confronted Daala but the Jedi Master had subdued her without even contemplating drawing his saber. Unfortunately Evaders had done just that, escaping to plague the Rebellion from another planet.

The advance had once more begun but it was going slowly something that Luke was painfully aware of, luckily the Protectorates troops were being used more and more, and even Leia’s opposition was beginning to soften. Luke prepared to head for the Allied capital for the Advisory meeting, as he suspected the others were doing.

Chapter Wrap- New Command decisions

Drayson was once more yelling at Ozzel something about uneeded loss of life. Everyone in the room was growing tired of this run around.

Ozzel decided to end it early, “Your Sector has a sizeable fleet so why hasn’t the Empire even been attacked councilor?â€

 Hmmm I am thinking in subbmiting all the stroyes in the download section

 Hey you are an older SWR member than me ....you should join the RDB II Club

 Btw what did you like in the PTESB ?! Give me some insight and feedback :)....now I will read the last of your storyes.

 Ideea.... what about Luke going to Vader and comming to Yoda the rejoin the Alliance ...all this in his time away ?!

 Btw the Protectorate is more of a Division in the Imperial Army created by Vader for Luke ..... He has named him self Lord Protector....Yap we have some confusion but you are good in this job...

 Btw all the Protectorate TC started from the left eye of the Stromtrooper helmet and the first Protector trooper has been made.....and also the desire to make Luke folow his call and Yoda's vision in the cave ..that Luke will join his father if.....

 The PTESB TC was possible since I have discovered a way to improve the small pics that you play with in the game....nobody playes with the encyclopedia.....btw all the ship cards were made in two days .

Since I already have them for the Second chapter in the trilogy......so I've decided to remade the first chapter starting at Hoth and not do the Remnant one ...... Btw The second TC is still an open project

 Now I remember the first TC that I wanted to submmit had only new 2-3 cards in it  but with the normal delays the First 4.2 mb Protectorate was made (TC area) Then after 2-3 months of working on the Remnant I discovered the ACDSee 5.0 so the Portectorate becomed PTESB :)

 Untill then all the art work is exclusive to the Windows Paint program.....

Edit  Hmmm I think the Reloaded team should drop by soon to recruit you also :wink:

That'd be cool in itself but this really isn't a very good story, I liked Imperial Style much better. What if the main site had a place for the best Rebellion Fiction? May attract more writers to write, we all like reading, and it may boost downloads of the scenarios. The AAR Section at Paradox Plaza is probably the biggest draw of those forums ([plug]Paradox Plaza is a game Designer that put out Europa Universalis, and Victoria and Crusader Kings [/plug]. Just a thought.

 Hey you are an older SWR member than me ....you should join the RDB II Club

Well I'm not exactly sure what the RDB Club does other than Mod Rebellion, and I was just barely able to set up the TC so I'm afraid I couldn't pull my weight. Besides I'm entering into my Jr. year of High School and I don't know how much time i'll be able to log just getting my story done.

 Btw what did you like in the PTESB ?! Give me some insight and feedback :)....now I will read the last of your storyes.

I liked the new pictures, the new ships, and the new ships cards, I was confused telling Imp from Vic Destroyer but that's probably from being a bit rusty as actually seeing them  . The Golan's really piss me off, and the shielded regiments annoy me so a job well done there :D. The Sith Cruiser I think is a bit too high priced for something so useless no real incentive to build one. I also thing that Advanced Faculties should be a little sooner on the research tree and be restored to the original building times. Also I've noticed that the Empire almost only builds Victory Destroyers, I'll have to look over my notes but I think I may have just seen one Imperial STar Destroyer the whole game.

 Ideea.... what about Luke going to Vader and comming to Yoda the rejoin the Alliance ...all this in his time away ?!

That's probably the simplest solution all it would take is changing the text for the Yoda message correct?

 Btw the Protectorate is more of a Division in the Imperial Army created by Vader for Luke ..... He has named him self Lord Protector....Yap we have some confusion but you are good in this job...

Reloaded is an upcoming Total Conversion for Rebellion, it's set during the Thrawn Era.

Ah sounds very interesting.

*Forgot this  *

(Author Banter: Developing characters, actually winning the game... Yep not only did I play it I wrote it too :D)

Chapter 5: The Offensive begins again

Leia was making no progress what so ever at Firro the people just didn’t think the Alliance would serve to protect them, even with the fleet in orbit above them. Leia could understand their mistrust, the fleet had yet to redeem itself after the defeat over Khomm and despite whatever she said some of the people believed the Empire could still win if they attacked. Leia for her part was confident they could not, she was talking to Han aboard the Falcon.

Han had been made General in Ackbar’s fleet, and as he quipped “I’ve been made General of a fleet without troops.â€

I don't recall seeing any 3d fighters, the cards are the same for me, at least the Encylopedia pics are.

Chapter 6: The Imperial Fleet Destroyed

All attempts to get information on the Empire had failed miserably The Council for Conquering Farfin (The CFCF) was in quite a situation. All three admirals, with the latest addition of Raftican, agreed that if the Imperial fleet was allowed to gather it would be disastrous to the recent push. Byss had been knocked over quickly, Ozzel could almost here the necks snapping on Coruscant, but despite hard evidence the Wookie did manage to come up with some valuable information.

Ozzel addressed the gathered command staff, “It’s just as we feared the Empire is putting together its attack fleet at Wistril.â€

the new 2D fighters are in the 3D tactical battle :wink: same design but new textures.

The fighters are the same as cards since I had no mod to mod them but in 3D tactical battle just zoom and you will see new textured fighters ....If of course you have copy/paste the new tactical.dll in your Rebellion game folder :wink:

 btw the Millenium Impera is a very fast ship (six times faster than a ISD) used for VIP transports and covert operations .....or scout mode.

 hey save your game : then load the 2.5 and the textral.dll then save and load all the ship cards to rewrite some internal game data .....also the fighters and the probes and play the game by loading your save. It will make the IMP a bit more agressive and fix the victory building problem right in the game so you will not need to start a new.

Yeah but I have little desire for a ship like that, besides if an Interdictor came out of hyperspace I'd want a ship that could at least take some of the Imperials with it.
