Sorry for the dramatic thread title guys but this is something that may well solve a few problems people have been having with the excellent new models during the tactical battle; and the game crashing upon leaving a tactical battle.

After many moons of wondering why the said problem has been happening i've just come to the conclusion that the rebellion engine does not like sharing model textures. That's right. If, for example, you give the Empire and Alliance the rather cool new Dreadnaught Mask released and have a tactical ruck, the game crashes. But it doesn't if say only the Empire has the new model and the Alliance has the original one...

I realized this enlightened discovery following a battle; and subsequent game-abandonment, in the early hours of yesterday morning when my game crashed after my glorious Imperial sixth fleet, mainly comprised of Allegiance Star Destroyers and Imperial Star Destroyer II's (but shaing Mask's Allegiance ship model) defeated an alliance fleet.

It all became clear....

So don't share ship model slots with textures....though it's ok for both sides to be able to build them.

Hmm, I've read this at 02:00AM today, so I decided to sleep a bit over it

So, lemme see, if I got this right Jahled: you installed the same ship model in two slots, instead of having it in one slot, where both sides can build it ? Then the game will crash, that's right.

'Cause no two models can share the same texture file.

But I don't know, how you could forget that, I've written it over and over during the last year

EDIT: however, it will work, if you load the model with Lith, rename the texture file, replace the current texture with your renamed one in Lith and save the model there. Then they are two separate textures for the game, even if they are just naming variants

So to use the same model for the ISD and the ISD II, I would only have to rename the ISD model I downloaded from your site, and then install it to the ISD II slot?

(this is an old thread but I was actually wondering about this an hour or so ago)

Put an overpowered Solar Ionization Reactor in between two cheap-ass engines and a couple of laser cannon, put a chair with a rudimentary flight control and targeting computer on top, and surround the (unpressurized!) pilot with enough armor plate so he doesn't fry in a tenth of a second... riiiiiiiiight

Nnnope.

As I wrote above, you'll have to apply your new texture to the model and save the altered model. Then you won't have conflicts with the slots
