Retaking the Universe, Imperial Style

alright some explanations are in order regarding my disappearance and the abandoning of the other story.

1. I didn't like the other story, I was under heavy influence from outside sources.

2. I no longer have the save file

So yea I've been lurking here for sometime and it gave me the urge to reinstall and start playing again. But since I've not played in six months I'm rusty (try and notice the justification I gave in the story ;))

so this is me attempting to rule the universe, Large Galaxy, Normal setting. Fiction attempt #2:

Chapter 1 Preparation

On the edge of the universe were the only trace of civilization is a primitive tree house, exploration of the Outer Rim has all but ceased there was after all a war going on. The Galactic Empire was all powerful and united, or at least that was the picture created. The Emperor could not coordinate his empire so he chose one of his Admirals to do so for him.

But not an established admiral, one pulled off some backwater, one without ambition but with enough skills to get things done. The Emperor knew that the fear of him would ensure The Coordinator would be obeyed he also knew that until he proves himself even that fear would only get the job done.

He was provided a Victory Star Destroyer that was mostly gutted of weapons. From here he was to decide the course of the Empire and from there he wasn’t allowed to emerge. The crew given him was minute. barely enough to fill a room, worse he was allowed only minimum interaction. His only company were two pissy droids.

But the Empire was strong and the Rebels were weak and scattered (or so the droid said). The Empire had the best officers available and the most powerful starships. But in the first month of duty it began to become apparent to The Coordinator that the war would be long and drawn out. For all the “resourcesâ€

Chapter 2 Part 1 Ozzel

The Coordinator placed Ozzel in immediate control of retaking the sector, in that status Ozzel was running non stop intelligence missions. Monitoring reports news comes in that a Rebel fleet was seen within the Corfai System.

He was also monitoring future targets, for all intensive purposes the logical plan was to form a pincer movement to take the Core, before moving on the Outer Rim. But the glory of such a thing would depend on who destroyed the Rebel fleet, and right now the fleet was on the run. Which made him quite happy to see Admiral Daala beaten and sent fleeing to Tralus to make repairs.

Intelligence reports came in reporting the location of Princess Leia she was heading to Chandrila on a Diplomatic Mission. The chance was too good to pass up, the fleet left Bortras and blockaded Chandrila. The Princess was captured, interrogated, and thrown into the ships holding cells. Once the Diplomats in the Sector brought popular support to an all time high, the invasion of Chandrila began. Without the Princess to exercise her leadership skills the system fell easily. The Diplomats moved in quickly so that the fleet could move on.

Mazer Rackus was captured on the ground, to his credit, trying to organize a counter attack. No troops were lost on this assault and Ozzel was getting his wish, rumors started spreading that he would be named the next Grand Admiral. He was entertaining all the best delegates and had been letting his intelligence screening drop.

His mistake, Needa was paying attention and was satisfied to see that Lord Vader had captured Luke Skywalker. Within a few months the Empire had raped the Rebel Alliance of their leadership. Skywalker is en route to Coruscant from there to be relocated to whatever world/ship is designated as the Prison planet/ship.

Suddenly Ozzel was no longer in the limelight, which made his mood sour and determined, which Needa could handle much better than his happy and lazy.

Chapter 2 Part 2 Mission Complete

Rumors abound and throughout the Sector the fear of Rebel invasion spreads. Needa cursed the Rebel agents who had leaked the information, the Fleet had been making defense plans for some time to counter the large fleet coming into Uvena, but they had not counted on the populace finding out.

Now they were committed the size of the fleet was exaggerated, rumors had it at about half a dozen with two full wings of star fighters. Imperial agents managed to strike the first blow by sabotaging the Comet, Corellian Corvette, at least they took some casualties.

Hastily the newly completed Imperial Escort Carrier dubbed “Big Momma (:D)â€

ooc: Just clearing some stuff up, regarding my knowledge of Star Wars lore. I read the books up till probably Dark Saber, i tried reading NJO books but I just couldn't get into them. I remember almost no personality traits for the characters other than Thrawn's awesome (:D). During the course of this I'm liable to work with how I remember the characters to be, and how I want them to be. If I'm slaughtering anyone's personality that it hinders your abillity to read, tell me how they're supposed to act and I'll consider changing (probablity of change varies on how much I like character existing personality).

Next regarding how I'm handling the Imperial Admirality, I've been reading a book on the Punic War and watched Patton a few weeks ago and the story will deal primarily with the competition between the Imperial Admirals to out do each other. With that in mind I give you an update:

Interlude: Daala

Daala arrived in the Corellian Sector to make repairs over Tralus, in the embarrassing engagement at Carida all ships including her Destroyer took damage. The Hydra Carrack Cruiser had just completed repairs when the Rebel ships entered the Sector.

The Rebel fleet came as a complete surprise, reading over the battle reports Daala discovered the missing Medium Transports. So far she had only failed in his status, still necessity placed her in charge of defense in the Corellian Sector. Still the Empire’s talent pool was expanding, if she was going to keep command she would have to show results, diplomats like Pter Thanos were starting to filter in and rumor had it he was preparing to take over.

The Rebel appearance over Corfai was the most surprising blow thus far, aside from the Death Star being destroyed. Corfai wasn’t defended from space but had a large ground concentration. It had no shipyards, or construction yards, or even a training yard. In a Holo meeting the Admiralty tried to discover the reasoning. Thrawn presided the meeting with The Coordinator listening in, Thrawn remained silent his red eyes watching as the Admirals bickered.

Daala had remained quiet the entire time, she knew that two things kept her opinion from being taken seriously: 1. Her gender, 1. Her past failure. Ozzel was putting forth his “the Rebels have no strategyâ€

(ooc: I’ve got three updates for this section of time, all events are occurring simultaneously I’ve got the updates ready but I’m going to space them out so as not to hit anyone with too much to read at one time.)

Daala (cont)

The Rebels went as expected, a few weeks ahead of schedule apparently they were not worried about the troop count. Luckily Vader was long gone, and the Imperial Escort Carrier completed. Daala was forced to take some Tie’s from the planetary garrison to fill the wing, but it was only a temporary solution.

Daala arrived and saw the Rebel fleet in all its junky glory, the ships looked like one piece of scrap metal held together by rusty nuts and bolts. The Deaths Hand moved forward the new engines being put to good use, the Rebel fleet withdrew almost instantly.

Daala’s gunners were crack shots and the Rebel Ground troops were blasted without mercy. As was becoming standard Imperial protocol by this point, the first bombing sent the planet into uprising, the second brought it to the Imperial Standard.

At the next meeting of the Admiralty Thrawn confirmed Daala’s position as Commander of the Sector and Admiral of the fleet by promoting Pter Thanos to be General. This sent a silent message to Daala, she was to prepare the fleet to take the Sector than move on to the next.

Thanos was nothing like Daala’s Tie Commander, Zuggs, where Zuggs was quite and willing to follow orders to a T regardless of personal feeling, Thanos was warm and expressed his feelings often. His way was too soft for Daala’s taste but she could respect a commanding officer giving his opinion, hadn’t she always done so? After all it wasn’t as if this was Vader’s ship.

Intelligence reported that a Rebel Fleet was massing over Vagran, this time Daala would take the Shooting Star. The battle actually was, as seemed to always happen the Rebel Transports had withdrawn but the Shooting Star, complete with fighter armament, remained to fight. The primary fighter in the Imperial hangar bays were the, now, outdated Tie Fighters only a few Tie Interceptor squads were present.

In the battle almost all fighters were destroyed, on both sides, in the end only a Rogue Squadron of Rebel ships escaped to the next planet. The Shooting Star was destroyed but Admiral Nevva and her staff managed to make it planet side. Daala Bombed the system and demanded the Sullustian, or she would bomb again. When the Rebels did not answer to reasoning, she added an exclamation point, Thanos objected but he was over ruled. Not only did she get the Rebel, she took the system, this sparked the uprising at Corfai to go out of control and throw out the Rebels before their troops arrived to quell the people.

Ozzel

Ozzel listened as report after report came in of Daala’s successes, he was stuck in Ghorman waiting on a Star Destroyer and Daala was sending the Rebels scurrying around the Sector. His fleet was the most formidable in the Empire, which meant that no Rebel fleet would meet it. Ozzel had been placed in charge of infrastructure in the Sector, he was building mines and refineries deploying troops all over the system, the Sector was important beyond the Capital and the Emperor, between Ghorman and Chandrila a total of 13 Shipyards churned out Imperial Star Destroyers, this was more than all other Imperial Sectors combined.

When the Decimator was finally stocked and finished Ozzel set out for Phorliss, the hyperspace isolation was both blissful and maddening for Ozzel. The reports of Daala’s victories had stopped reaching him, but he also had no idea what was going on. A month was a long time to be out of the loop, and it was almost like having a sense severed.

When they came out of hyperspace Ozzel had already gone through a dozen strategies but faced with a wing of fighters as opposition Ozzel allowed the Lancer Frigates do their job. He assaulted the planet with the mixed force of War Droids and Storm Troopers, the planet caved easily, apparently the Rebels weren’t worried about this Sector. Which only made Ozzel pray they weren’t worried about Daala’s either.

He began running intelligence missions in the Sector to find out anything he could. He found out that a convoy of Corvette’s would be coming out of hyperspace and decided to meet this force with a show of power before they could converge. Each ship fled as expected, Ozzel was confident in his fleet’s strength, and if things turned bad he could still call on the Sector defense fleet for backup.

Ozzel was at a disadvantage in the race to defeat the Rebellion, Daala had destroyed the Shooting Star and brought not one, but two systems to Imperial Control. Ozzel had stood idle while the Rebels bombed one of the Sectors Training facilities. When he had sat a course for the system the Rebels had since departed.

No danger of it becoming inactive, my only worry is that it becomes boring, the Rebels are in their death throws I'm afraid as the next chapter should make clear. Not much happening in the next chapter but I've got a nice opening Interlude to give Rebel perspective on things.

Interestingly enought the next post serves as a stand alone thread to decide if the AI really is as dumb as it seems, or if my imagination just comes up with good explanations :D

Interlude Mon Mothma

The Rebel Communication ship had dropped out of hyperspace over a barren moon, on board the Rebel President was in contact with her top leaders. Ackbar, Wedge Antilles, Adar Talon, Page, and the former administrator of Cloud City Lando. The first three were the commanders of the Rebellion fleet, Page leader of the commandos and covert ops, and Lando Calrissian administrator of all Rebellion ground forces after Madine’s death at Imperial hands.

All were the most trusted Rebel field agents, the only one remotely suspected was Calrissian, he had joined up after Solo had been captured by the Imperials. Ackbar was the only one who knew where the President was and would be, but in case of his capture an alternate route was set up. She would always remain far from the Headquarters because if both were captured it was uncertain if the remaining forces could organize any resistance.

The first subject was Ozzel’s advance through the Sector, with the entire fleet brass in the Sector, albeit heavily defended at Tangrene one could only speculate the havoc that would become the Rebel fleets if they were all captured. The plan unilaterally given was that the Rebel Strike groups would continue harassing the fleet’s. But one extension that Antilles put forth was the subject of great scrutiny by the others.

“Ozzel isn’t quick to adapt to change, that much I’ve noticed about him, he can be harassed easily enough. But he came from the Seswenna Sector, which means that sector is left with only Grammel as defense, as hard headed as Ozzel is Grammel is ten times so. What’s more he would only leave the Capital undefended under direct orders. If we send in raiding ships to the capital Sector Grammel will move to attack them, we can than catch Coruscant unguarded and take the Imperial Seat and the Emperor in one movement.â€

Ozzel

The Diplomats had done their job well, especially after Piett joined Essada. The target was Wor Tandell, the resistance was miniscule, the attention minute, but it was a job. The Sector fleet met Ozzel’s and remained for a short time. As the Diplomats were sent in Ozzel began to relax the Sector was under his control, soon the Core would be taken and the search for the Rebel Base could begin.

Ozzel sent his agents to kill the diplomat Vanden Willard, the one who had so far escaped the Empire on two previous occasions, they reported that he had been killed as planned. Even this didn’t satisfy Ozzel, the only ones who had tried for Willard in the past were hired assassains, it would have been different if Daala had sent her own agents and failed but those were the Emperor’s men, and he couldn’t very well gloat about it.

With these minor victories and that sense of security coming in, the Sector got a visit from its old friend the Corellian Corvette’s. They showed up over Phorlis and bombed it, continuously. The Sector fleet was retained for a week before being allowed to drive them off. Around this time Thrawn had completed his plans for an Interdictor Cruiser, and one was being built for Ozzel.

One day Ozzel was making his rounds in the officers lounge, he saw a group of officers huddled at a vid screen, among them Needa and Veers. Ozzel moved over and edged his way through to stand next to the other commanding officers.

“What’s going on here Needa? Why aren’t these men going about their job?â€

(ooc: The story comes to it's end here a bit dissapointing but I don't suppose I left the AI much of a choice in this matter. But now for some reader involvement (with about 300 views I see about two or three of you :D) since the great goal of the admirals in the story was to get the promotion to Grand Admiral I want readers to post and decide who should get it. I'll also use that final post to tie up the stories loose ends.)

Chapter 5: The Imperial Offensive

Interlude The Imperials, before.

Thrawn watched the five officer images before him, all were at ridgid attention even Grammel seemed to realize the wait of the orders. This was not a meeting on tactics, Thrawn had allowed enough of that. They were going to be given orders, failure would be inexcusable. Palleon had just wiped out a wave of Tie’s over Orto and was beginning to put together ground forces to take the system, it was a few days before the Battle for Coruscant was set to begin.

Just thinking about the Rebel’s gall at attacking the capital made Thrawn ill, but after this movement the Rebel offensive would be crushed. It was a supremely well coordinated offensive, and if Thrawn had not been paying attention Grammel surely would have let it succeed. The Rebels still had a capable hierarchy that much was apparent, given the ships in use it was Antilles idea. But whereas the others checked up occasionally with Holonet, or out of boredom, Thrawn lived by it. He knew where the Rebels were making those wonderful battleships so quickly, and more importantly where that new Hierarchy was now located.

He focused on what was to be the most important phase of the mission, defense of Coruscant. At this point he could only tell Grammel what to do, and that probably wouldn’t be listened to. Thrawn had directed the sectors fighter squads to the Capital to contribute to the defense.

“Admiral Grammel, the Rebel fighters have quality, we have quantity and much of it. The first step will be to destroy the Rebel fighter screen, they have only one wing so it should not prove difficult. The transports are the primary target, your Star Destroyer should do well in finishing them off. The Escort Carrier and Bulk Cruisers are secondary targets. You must protect the Interdictor and keep it from being destroyed or heavily damaged, if the Rebels attack the Sector ever again I want the ships destroyed completely.â€

I'm just now upgrading to 1.1 (yea I'm that sad) but I may write something for this "Thrawn Era." Gonna take another day or two of rest than start a Rebellion story.

Now please vote on a Grand Admiral
