Texas_Fett Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Okay, another continuity question here. I've been looking through descriptions for the Nebulon-B2 Frigate and the Corona-class Frigate, and I've come up with a bit of confusion. First, we have every Rebellion-munchkin-gamer's favorite ship, the Nebulon-B Frigate. That's the baseline. From here, modifications were made, resulting in the Nebulon-B2 Frigate...oh, wait...or is that the Nebulon-B2 Frigate? And then we have the Corona-class Frigate...or is that the Corona-class Frigate? My personal take is that they started with the Nebulon-B, made modifications resulting in the 50m smaller Nebulon-B2 Frigate, and then produced the Corona-class Frigate as a whole new, larger class of vessel. Am I right, or is my reasoning completely flawed? Five of the Greatest Lines in the Star Wars Trilogy -"As you wish..."-"He's no good to me dead..."-"What if he doesn't survive? ADarkJedi44 Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Isn't the first picture of the Nebulon B-2 from one of the X-wing vs. Tie fighter games? The graphics weren't exactly tip top... Sweat saves blood-Erwin Rommel
Texas_Fett Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 Yes it is, which probably explains the "smooth" appearance of the two "wing-spars". However, I've seen a couple of descriptions that claim the smooth appearance is due to increased armor plating over vital systems, giving the ship an 'encased' appearance. Appearance wise, though, the "rough" Neb-B2 looks to be the natural progression of the design, keeping the Static Discharge Vanes, and really just appears to be the same craft as the Neb-B, just with a second "wing-spar". There's where the confusion comes in... Hmm...maybe I should have entitled the thread, "Would the REAL Corona-class Frigate please..." BadSamaritan Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Im sorry, but the B2 looks really really really dumb. Gimme a modified assault frigate any day of the week. I once knew a great man. Nothing got to him, and he always smiled. May he forever rest in peace, knowing fully well that his freinds shall remember him.
Texas_Fett Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 Im sorry, but the B2 looks really really really dumb. Not nearly as dumb-looking as the ones with Four "Wing-Spars". (Don't believe me? Just do a quick search through the Expanded Universe cards on this site for "Nebulon"). Krytos Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 Picture wise, your first picture of the Neb-B2 is right, and I don't know if there's anything different about the Neb-b and the Neb-b2 other than looks, I'll have to look into that. Your second picture of the Corona is the right picture. The Corona is based off the Neb-B, but has been designed as a true military warship that has everything the Rebellion liked of the Neb-B plus more - like a third fighters squadron and ion cannons. ElvisMiggell Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 There's a fantastic picture of the four spar one out there somewhere, that i had as a wallpaper for a while. You could also go up against Neb B2's in XWA. Bear in mind they may have made up the encased thing as an excuse for having a lower polycount. Elvismiggell.
