Does any one know if there's a way to rename the choice of ships in the game files. I'm getting pretty bored of the same old names like Wind and Arrow for the rebellion, and Bear or Tiger for the Empire (not very exciting names are they). It would be pretty neat to rename them closer to the StarWars universe; for example: ISDs Avenger, Monarch, Stalker, Forger, Bellicose,Death's Head, and the odd SSD called the Executer r Lusankya. Get the picture?

Use Resource Hacker (the link should be somehwere in the forums) and look for the TEXTSTRA.DLL file in your Rebellion directory, then go to String table and edit from the 1297 to the 1310 (for Imps, that is) and from the 1314 to the 1326 for the Rebs.

Somewhere there you can also change the ranks of each character, you can have it say GRand Admiral Thrawn or Wing General Antilles.

Nice one dude. I've already got resource hacker and have figured it out enough to upload new ship models. Are you saying I can access the ship-names folder the game uses with it? I'm a bit slow with computer hoo-ha. My generation thought the ZX Spectrum and Jet Set Willy were the most awesom things around, and I still remeber being awed by Galaxion. I know it's sad.

Asteroids Champ-een here...Hey, that reminds me, does anybody remember Joust??? What a great game....

But my mind wanders...

Yes, with Resource Hacker, you can change all the ship names in the game! :D

Has anyone tried to "add" names...there are only a few ship names for each class, and when the AI has built more than those names, it starts calling them "Medium Transport 110" etc, etc.

I tried one time, but worried it would screw it up... 8O

Just had a little look in TEXTSTRA.DLL. The alliance will now no longer build Rebel Transports called 'Arrow.' Excellent.

Jahled, my first console was an Atari 2600 followed by the legendary C-64 8) and I remember myself saying, that a pc game would never look as good as one on the 64. Oh, Jesus... long, long ago

Untimely, I haven't yet tried for the same reason  I don't remember joust, but Defender of the Crown had a joust part as well. There was a remake not long ago, still had a hard time winning

Igor, you got permission from Mr. Angus J. ? When I asked nicely he just told me, that he'd prefer if I just put the link on my page...

Elvis, jousting was that with two knights on their horses, long staffs and both try to push the other of the horse with the staff. At least that's how it went in Defender of the Crown. Btw, don't try to impale the horse

Well the game i remember was about 12 or 13 years ago, so it's probably different.

Actually, Joust was a game from the early 80's that was a two player game. Each player had a "knight" which rode a flying griffin and the game board was little platforms. They would "bounce" into each other until one knocked the other off. Very, very simple concept, but cutthroat gameplay.

I had Pong, Atari 2600, Commodore VIC20, Commodore 64, Commodore 128 then finally a PC. I loved Commodore...that was a great computer! Has anyone tried the emulators? :D

Untimely, the emus work :D just find something like Vic-64, I think that was the name. There are tons of diskimages available, also one of my favourite old games Ghostbusters 1 :D

Has anyone figured out whether, or not this is possible? It would be a good addition to the everything.

Difficult to rename those ships. Cuz the whole thing is played in an other galaxy. So you can't just call a ship Achilles or Red October or Lincoln or somerhing like that. There are some names, programmed in the game, that are taken from the Earths history (like Prometheus 8O or Hades 8O) .

One thing that's clear by observing the rebellion files with Resource Hacker is that everything is numbered, including the ship names. I'm no computer wizz, but I reckon the numbers are linked to ingame strings or something along those lines. So I would imagine we unfortunately can't 'add' to the avilable ship names the AI will use.

...emm...I don't know if your pulling my leg... if you're a little stuck naming the Emperor's Capital ships there's a few places you can go for names that have appeared in the SW universe. The_Mask has a file on his web page, there's an absolutely huge database at theforce.net, and failing all that a google web-search for Imperial Ship Names should bring up the usual 98,000 results...

Personally I like having fleets of Star Destroyers like: Virulance, Avenger, Bellicose, Medusa, Stormbringer, and Peremptory....etc, gives games that genuine feel..... then of course you've got a Thesaurus to play around with....if you play your games in English...

Thanks, but I really don't have problems with my shipnames

Wicket is still a cute choice, isn't it? :D

I usually take names like Invicible, Punisher, Annihilator, Protector, Judicator ...tor, ...tor ...tor

Avenger? More like a rebel shipname to me..
