Another ST vs. SW

Recommended Posts

Here it is, I don't know if I'm ever going to finish it, but at least it has a start.

Light classical music filled the room. Six hundred years old, but still good, as the captain thought. He stood by the window, watching as stars, elongated by the distortion of spacetime that was the ship's faster-than-light sorce of propulsion, slowly moved towards him, and above and around him. Normally he would read a book on a long journey like this one, or try to get some sleep, but for some reason his only wish was to look outside, into the eternal black emptiness that had become his home long ago. On the records, this was just a routine scan of a new anomaly near the Romulan neutral zone, but he felt there was something more to it. He tried to sort out his thoughts, to find what was bothering him, but all he could do was stare into space, into his own weak reflection on the glass.

A chirping sound pulled him from his thoughts, and he suddenly returned to the world he was normally in, a world of regulations and science, not one of vague uncertainties.

"Captain? Sorry to wake you!"

He tapped his communicator. "Picard here. I wasn't asleep, Number One. What is it?" He grabbed his black jacket, ready to go to the bridge if an emergency were at hand. Riker's voice came back. "Sir, the anomaly has just grown by 1200 percent, and Emissions are up at least that much. At it's current size, it reaces into the Neutral Zone. We're about to inform Starfleet Command." Picard pulled on his jacket. With the anomaly now partly in the Neutral Zone, the Romulans would almost certainly also send a ship there. While it was unlikely they would attack the Enterprise, he would have to be prepared for anything there - even a cooperation. "I will see to that myself" he said. "Picard out". With one more touch of his communicator, he ended the transmission.

His strange feeling was getting stronger. He switched off the music and left for the bridge.

The huge triangular spacecraft moved towards the anomaly that had been reported by merchant vessels a few days ago. In that time, she had crossed several star systems in Hyperspace and had dropped to normal space a mere ten milllion kilometers from it's outer region. The captain, a white-haired man in grey uniform who looked intimidating despite his age looked out the forward viewports of the bridge. The anomaly measured several parsecs in diameter and it was an intimidating sight, a cloud of violet and blue light slowly changing as though it was alive. "What are the readings on this thing?" He said and made sure 'thing' was pronounced so sharply as if he was not impressed by the object at all. A sensor officer answered. "The anomaly seems to be emitting some sort of hyperwave radiation. We don't see it on the electromagnetic scanners at all, but our hypercomm system detects it." The captain turned around to look at the officer. "How can I see it then?"

The sensor officer shook his head. "I can't explain that, sir, but an explaination could be that the radiation has a different effect on us as it has on the scanners. Maybe we just think we see it."

Confused, the captain turned back towards the viewport. "I want a better explaination than that or a distinct confimation. No speculations."

"Yes, Sir."

For a minute, noone spoke on the bridge, until the sensor officer spoke up again. "Sir, there is a contact right in the middle of the anomaly. No, make that two... Five contacts. Five ships directly ahead!"

"Identification?"

"Not possible, sir. Unknown hull configuration."

'Captain's Log, Stardate 52722.3. A group of five Federation starships have entered the anomaly by the Neutral Zone to investigate the disappearance of two romulan Warbirds who were sent out by the Romulan government. We seem to have traveled in both time and space and left the anomaly at a totally different point in the universe. We have made contact with a humanoid race, which seems to be in the middle of a civil war, and have accompanied one of their warships to their mobile base of operations.'

"Who are they?" asked the imperial admiral, approaching his superior, who was sitting in his personal room, looking at holograms of the unknown intruders' ships. He recognized all five hull configurations, all of which seemed to use large disk-shaped sections of their ships for housing the crew and long drive modules which housed their engines. Scans of the ships had been very thorough, but the technology the strangers used had not yet been fully analyzed. The vessels contained impressive firepower for their size, but none of them was nearly as strong as an imperial Star Destroyer.

The other one looked at him, his red eyes reflecting the holographic lights. The white Grand Admiral's uniform he wore looked bluish from the unusual lighting, and his naturally blue skin even more so.

"They identified themselves as Federation vessels. Not any Federation we might know, though, since they said to be from another time, another galaxy." The Grand Admiral Thrawn stood and began walking around the pictures.

"Do you believe this?" Admiral Pellaeon asked.

"You heard the report about the anomaly. It is incomprehensible even to our best astrophysicists. Easy to believe in otherwise unbelievable stories facing something like this. Also, the strangers seemed to be very dedicaded to the truth. Their language, their posture suggested peace-loving and curious beings. I think they are scientists and they do want to find those missing ships."

"Ah, yes." the admiral said. "Those... What was it? Romulans? Where are they? Are we going to help these... Federation... Visitors to find their friends?"

"They are not their friends." Pellaeon didn't even bother guessing how Thrawn had come to that conclusion, who added: "We are not going to spend our resources trying to find someone not belonging to this galaxy. Also, the Federation has already refused to help us deal with the Rebels in return. They said they wouldn't interfere with our culture's internal matters. They may look for the missing ships, though. If my assumptions are correct, they will find something useful."

"Yes, Sir." Pellaeon left the chamber once again puzzled by the Chiss' reactions.

ATTENTION: SPOILER

I intend to have the Romulans meet the Repuplic, and the Federation looking for them accompanied by the Empire. The Romulans change sides, though, and try to gain influence over the Empire as Thrawn's allies. The Feds, together with the Republic try to stop them, and bring them back to their universe, just to see there are a lot more than just two Romulan warships in the galaxy and they have observed the action there for a long time, remaining cloaked.

Nice story AdmiralFishface

 ...more then nice :).....you and Stellar_Magic are almost at the same level of skill.

 Hey writter dudes...! I already ask Evaders for a new fiction forum like the RDB II or HW 2 and I asked that AdmiralFishface and Stellar_Magic should be moderators. Is this a good ideea ?!...you will need to lock the novel topic and recive the feedback on a different topic since the episodes will be to far apart from each other from a visitor point of view

Request to writters : When you add a dialogue pls make it a new line like this :

- Not any Federation we might know, though, since they said to be from another time, another galaxy. The Grand Admiral Thrawn stood and began walking around the pictures.

- Do you believe this ? Admiral Pellaeon asked.

- You heard the report about the anomaly. It is incomprehensible even to our best astrophysicists. Easy to believe in otherwise unbelievable stories facing something like this. Also, the strangers seemed to be very dedicaded to the truth. Their language, their posture suggested peace-loving and curious beings. I think they are scientists and they do want to find those missing ships.

- Ah, yes.... said the admiral.

This way I can follow the dialogue lines with more ease :)....thanks.

With the quotation thing. Standard procedure is to start a new paragraph, but since we can't indent... I've been double spacing between paragraphs and dialog.

Ex:

Luke reached for the cool comfort of the metal cylinder at his belt. Swiftly he drew the lightsaber and with a snap hiss the green shaft of energy appeared before him.

Q just smiled at the Jedi, "I think I hit a nerve."

Simple and it works :)

I think it's a good idea, I'd like to see a fanfic forum around here. I'd continue my story there (once I have written more of it...). Doesn't have ANYTHING to do with Rebellion, but what the heck.

Anyway, here's MORE!

Sorr, I don't like yellow, but how's this?

The Star Destroyer Inculator dropped out of hyperspace in the uninhabited Karathis system. The system's red sun gave the gigantic ship the look of a mile-long wedge of red-hot steel. A few seconds later five other ships of a totally different design appeared, taking position near the destroyer. The first and biggest one was the Enterprise-E, flagship of the Federation and most powerful ship in the fleet. Behind her were the Sutherland and the Michelson, Nebula-class vessels, their warp nacelles arranged below the saucer. To either side of the Enterprise two older Excelsior-class vessels arranged themselves, Waterloo and Lancaster. Finally, the Jupiter, an Akira-class warship took position above the slender Sovereign-class flagship.

Captain Picard watched the small fleet on the display on his chair, then turned to his science officer, the android Data.

"Mr. Data, have you found anything?" He said.

The android nodded briefly. "I have an ion trail on scanners. Comparison with the database points to two romulan vessels crossing this system on impulse drives, then heading out on high warp speeds."

- "Can you follow them?" Picard said.

- "Yes, Sir. I can follow their trail... Course calculated. They appear to have flown to a nearby system."

- "Plot a course, Warp Five, send the coordinates to the other ships."

Ensign Kelley, a young woman sitting by a console next to Data's, spoke up. "Captain, the Imperials are hailing us. A direct link from their leader, Sir."

- "Onscreen" the captain ordered. He stood up and straightened his uniform. On the main viewscreen the blue-headed Grand Admiral appeared.

"Picard." He said. "I suspect you have found what you were looking for. You will wait at your current position until my fleet joins you."

Picard looked at the alien, confused. "What is the meaning of this?" He asked, in his best diplomatic voice. "I thought you were not going to help us. However, this is not your concern. We have found the Romulans without you."

Thrawn glared at the Starfleet captain.

"You are going to help me, Picard. Your Romulans have undoubtedly allied themselves with the Rebels. We were trying to pinpoint the location of some of their leaders for some time now, and with your help, they will be brought to justice."

Before Picard could answer, he added:

"We have already shown great generosity by granting you passage through imperial space, captain. In return, we only wish to follow you. Those Rebels have killed the Emperor and scattered his fleet. They have used up immense resources in a destructive civil war that has raged for over ten years now. They have taken control of the imperial capital. Where they go, chaos erupts. They must be stopped. And I have the means to do that. All I need are those coordinates."

- "I am sorry, Admiral, but I cannot take sides in a war raging millions of light-years away from the Federation." Picard shook his head. "I have to follow regulations."

Thrawn's eyes lit up with anger, but he got himself under control quickly. "Very well, Captain. Our cooperation is ended. Good luck with your search."

His image was replaced by empty starfield. Ahead, the Inculator turned away to exit the system the way she had come in.

"Couse laid in, Captain" Data said.

"Engage."

Luke looked out the viewports of the Home One. He knew he was looking into the direction of a ship, he felt its weight, the crew aboard, the energy flowing through its power connections, but he couldn't see it. He knew that his eyes could decieve him, that only the Force provided perfect clarity in what was there and what was not, but the ship out there disturbed him. They came here, claimed they were from another galaxy, claimed to be our friends, but until now I have not even seen their ships.

He shrugged and moved on through the corridor, entered a turbolift and set it to bring him to the conference room. He was supposed to meet the aliens there. He wondered, why the reception should not take place in the main hangar, as that was where they were sure to land. As he entered the room he saw Admiral Ackbar and some of his subordinates gathered in formal New Republic uniforms. He himself was clad in a simple black suit, wearing his lightsaber openly as a piece of silver to contrast his other clothes. He was greeted by the famous Admiral who then returned to some didcussion with his second officer.

A communications officer stood in the middle of the room and announced: "We are now ready to welcome the Romulan emissaries. Luke looked around. No door opened. He felt a sudden surge of energy right in front of him and his hand touched the Lightsaber by reflex. A bright green light formed next to the communications officer and Ackbar, and two others next to it. They took human form, and when the light faded, the Jedi took a look at the three Romulans. They were roughly humanoid, but their eyebrows were angled so that they looked more menacing and stern, and their ears were long and pointy. The Romulans' skin was pale and their lips had a greenish color, so Luke suspected them to have green blood. The two males arranged themselves in a guarding position to either side of the female officer, whose look reminded him of the pictures he had seen of Ysanne Isard. The aliens' uniforms were shiny with wide shoulders, and to their side hung a green weapon.

Luke reached out to the female, and immediately felt the mental block she built up, breaking his concentration. Obiously, those people had experience with telepathic beings, and had been trained to keep anyone out of their heads. Even him, he thought, surprised. For a moment, though, he felt some kind of unkindness, and he immediately doubted their motives.

"New Republic representatives, I am Admiral Arai of the Romulan Star Empire" the Romulan leader said. "I am here to offer a cooperation between our forces and yours, of which we both could benefit."

Ackbar, representing the Republic and the Senate, nodded, but before he could answer, alarms went off and through the intercom, a voice from the bridge sounded.

"Proximity Alert. Multiple ships on attack vector detected. Alert. Command staff to the bridge."

If I remember well it started with asking how ou think the two crews would react if they met each other. It was after one or two mild battle descriptions that wrote the first spoof which can be found in the SW vs ST [ship size contest] forum. Imagine it if I wasn't such a hilarious spoof writer we may not have all these fantastic fan fictions. ( Mad78 get's up and goes and kisses himself in the miror)

Phoo, I don't really know how this story is going to end, but here's another chapter. It's written a bit confusing in the battle part, but a big space battle IS confusing. So I wrote it that way intentionally.

Five ships emerged from Warp, entering the system from slightly above the ecliptic plane.

"We have arrived in the Cahina System, Captain." Data said. He laid his head to one side, and added: "Sir, there is a battle in progress. I detect imperial ships, and some of similar technology, yet different design." He paused. "And a Romulan Warbird, Sir."

- "Onscreen!" Picard commanded. "Mr. Hawk, get us closer." The Helm officer acknowledged. The viewscreen showed six imperial destroyers closing on a large cruiser, whose shape was soft, almost organic, and its support vehicles. Green and red bolts of energy jumped between the ships. Hovering at the edge of the battle was the Warbird, almost as long as one of the Star Destroyers, and as deadly as the Federation Flagship. It didn't seem to participate in the battle, for the moment.

"Hail the Romulans." The captain ordered, and the image of the Romulan Admiral appeared on the screen.

"Picard." She said simply. "Not even in another galaxy is one spared from Federation buerocrats."

- "And you are..."

- "Admiral Arai!" She pronounced the word 'admiral' so sharply as if she wanted to stab Picard with it. Her green eyes flared.

- "Admiral, we have to return to our galaxy. We are causing this anomaly to exist."

- "And how is that?"

- "It has grown larger as our five ships entered it. It seems to be an unstable wormhole that is balanced between these two universes. As your first ship entered, it tripped the balance, causing the wormhole to expand, making it visible to Federation long-range scanners. We must return now."

- "A nice theory, Picard, but an unproven one. Mind your own business." She seemed to react to something an officer behind her was saying, and cut the transmission.

Luke, in his X-Wing, turned away from an exploding TIE fighter. An Imperial ambush he thought, but how did they find us? The green Romulan vessel seemed not to interact with the Imps. Why aren't they fighting? Another TIE found itself under his crosshairs, another one was pierced by his quad-linked laser burst, exploding in a brilliant fireball. "We have confirmation of the Chimaera in-system!" He recieved from the Home One. He shuddered. Thrawn. The Star Destroyers surrounded Home One and blocked her exit vector. One of the Corellian Corvettes of the flagship's strike group had already suffered shield failure and took heavy damage from imperial Turbolasers. Luke glanced again at the strategic display. If those Romulans are any good fighting, now would be the time!

Comm chatter came from other Republic pilots. Thrawn's fleet greatly outnumbered theirs and he had the element of surprise on his side, too.

Luke felt something strange at the edge of the battlefield. A large concentration of Force energy, right behind the green alien ship. He couldn't concentrate fully, as he also tried to keep alive out there, but what he felt disturbed him.

"More contacts! Five more ships!" He checked his monitor. The new ships had arrived a hundred thousand kilometers outside the battlezone, from the same vector as the Imperials had. Those must be the Federation ships the Romulans were talking about. They're allied with the Empire, and they seek to enslave us!

"Rebel ships, this is Admiral Pellaeon, second-in-command to Grand Admiral Thrawn. Surrender now and we will spare your lives. Disengage your weapons systems and shields and power down your engines. Any vessel doing so will not be treated as hostile." Pellaeon transmitted at multiple frequencies so that every Republic pilot could hear him. Sorry, Admiral, thought Luke, but the answer is NO. A nimble TIE Interceptor was hit by his lasers, but refused to break apart. Luke tried to follow him, to feel the pilot through the Force, when, suddenly, he became aware of something else. The Romulan Warbird turned towards the Home One. Being behind her, and Imperial ships in front of her, the Mon Calamari cruiser had shifted ist shields forward, leaving her stern unprotected.

"Home One!" He shouted, as he felt a feeling of triumph from somewhere on the Warbird, "Shift shields to aft, now! Home One, do you hear..."

His ship was hit by an ion blast from a Star Destroyer. Artoo shrieked wildly. Luke was irritated. He should have felt it coming. He should have been able to evade the shot... Home One grew larger in his frontal viewport. Why didn't he feel it coming?

Suddenly the Mon Cal command cruiser was hit by a green bolt fired from the head of the Warbird, a large pulse of energy absorbed by the larger vessel's shields, weakening them. A second pulse followed, a third one. Home One opened up on the Romulan cruiser with her stern guns, red needles drumming heavily against the alien ship. The Warbird fired again, from a different weapon system, a spinning ball of energy moving significantly slower than the pulse weapon. It connected with Home One's hull, resulting in a brilliant explosion, throwing debris into all directions.

Pellaeon stood on the bridge of the Chimaera, watching the battle proceed exactly as planned. Better even, with the sudden notification from Thrawn that Romulan vessels were to be treated as friendlies. He worried about the five other ships, though, coming in at higher speeds now. They were likely to attack only Romulan vessels, if any, the Admiral had said, and Pellaeon hoped this was true. He wondered what the Grand Admiral had been doing away from the bridge a few minutes ago, but suspected he had somehow caused the Romulans to join the Imperial forces for this battle. The enemy command cruiser ahead was hit by several shots from the Romulan Warbird. Impressive firepower, Pellaeon admitted, delivered with so few shots, but on the other hand, those vessels only had a handful of weapon systems mounted, not dozens, as imperial ships. The Warbird gained speed, flying past the damaged Rebel ship, exchangin a few more shots from weaker stern batteries, moving fas into the direction of the Federation ships. If these ships have the firepoer we scanned on them, Pellaeon thought, those Romulans are highly suicidal. However, this was not going to change his orders concerning the Rebel ships: No one shall escape.

Luke felt the ship shudder as a tractor beam from the Star Destroyer closest to him locked onto him. With the fighter paralyzed by an ion hit, he could do nothing to prevent capture. Above him a Y-Wing heavy fighter was hit by several green laser bolts and exploded. This was still a hot zone. Remaining in the fighter or punching out now was suicide. He sought for guidance by the Force, but couldn't concentrate. What is going on? Why am I losing my connection with the Force? The Romulan ship glided past him a few kilometers away, ignoring him. He lost sight of it quickly. Finally, he decided to try to calm down and feel the Force again in its full strength. He cloised his eyes and listened to the silence in the cockpit.

"Romulan ship approaching us, Disruptor cannons and Plasma Torpedoes at full charge!" Picard heard the report from his tactical officer. The recent events in this fight had confused him a bit, but those Warbirds were clear enough a threat.

"To all ships: Open fire. Concentrate on weapons systems! Do not target to destroy! We may need to haul this ship back through the anomaly!" He said. "Mr. Chamberlain, Phasers." He added. "Fire."

Orange lines of energy shot from the Federation ships, lighting up the Warbird's forward shields. It didn't return fire but kept closing with the Enterprise. Damage to its deflector screens was probably extensive by now, but the ship ignored the incoming fire. Suddenly the starfield began to flicker to either side of the Warbird, slowly revealing the shape of two more Romulan attack cruisers. All three opened up with their Disruptors and Plasma Torpedoes, tearing through the shields of the Enterprise before she could turn away. She managed to intercept the second salvo with her port and rear shields and answered with four Photon Torpedoes shot from her aft launchers. The warheads, shining brightly red, hit the lead Warbird, causing shield failure and hull damage. Another three Torpedoes from the Akira-class vessel convinced the green ship to turn away and engage ist cloak. The other two followed.

"Captain, the Rebel ship is hailing us!" The communications officer called across the bridge, now filled with smoke from an exploding power counduit.

- "Put it on!" Picard said. An alien with salmon-coloured skin and nonhuman features appeared.

- "Captain" he said in a low, gravelly voice, "we would appreciate any help with those Imperial ships. If we make it out, we will help you find those treacherous Romulans! Captain, please, just buy us a few minutes!"

Picard considered.

Turbolaser fire from one of the destroyers hit the Enterprise. Another formed up to join.

"Target those two ships." He finally said. "Michelson joins us. The others, clear a path for the rebels. This has gone far enough."
