To answer Scathane the fact is that they vibrate so fast that it can not be seen. The vibrations make that it can cut in to many things like butter.

I wounder how many plasma "shield buster" torpedoes it would take to knock out the shields on an Eclipse?

Nah...same problem as the SSD it has, blow up the bridge. Sure it has alot more Shiedl Generators then the SSD, thats just that many more targets.

On the other hand, we know that it takes only one A-wing to take out the shield generator of an SSD...

Not really true, in Episode 6 you see two A-Wings attack one of the shield generators on the SSD - though it could have been damaged earlier (personally i think it is because i don't see the shield generators on an ISD or SSD be so easily destroyed when they're obviously a weakness) by other fire. It then takes an A-Wing, at full throttle, to plow through the bridge to take it out!

That's a good point! We previously had quite some debate about how an SSD (or an SD for that matter!) could be so easily destroyed!

The two A-wings flew under the shield to deliver their attack, a Capital Ship wouldn't have that opportunity. They fired Eight concussion missiles into the Shield Generator more then enough to destroy it.

The reason the SSD was destroyed was the auxialiary command crew couldn't get to the reserve bridge in time to stop the garavitic pull of the DSII to stop it 'falling' into the station.

The same would happen with an ESSD, and i suspect the Imperials learnt a valuable lesson about crewing reserve bridges.

I think we can all agree on the the fact that the downfall of the Empire was the Emperor's personal blind spot...

Here's a little secret about Star Wars: Palpatine isn't dead!

This entire idea stems from one I've had about the whole series, and lets face it if he's dead, and vader, so is the star wars series after episode III.

Palpatine is the palpatable from of the Dark side, his body was destroyed but whose to say he can't be reborn at a later date...

Anakin Skywalker says that he will conquer death...does he, does he really? Plus at the end of Episode VI is the force in balance? The answer to both is no. The Light has control and is therefore out of balance.

Good triumphed over evil but for their to be a balance good and evil must continue to exists, I'm saying that if there is an Episode VII we'll see Anakin and Palpatine return...The fight between good and evil continues.

Well its my theory.

Well, there is the clone of the Emperor later on in Star Wars - sort of reborn, but he gets killed, again

And in The New Jedi Order the 'balance in the force' is looked at again, and I got the feeling that someone like Jacen or Ben (Luke's son) will have something to do with it if Luke doesn't - then again I haven't read the last few novels in the series, read Destiny's Way then The Final Prophecy.
