Is Force Commander worth playing?

Since there isn't an appropriate forum for discussing this game on the boards here, I figured I'd plop this topic here. :D

 

I picked this game up yesterday at Half-Price Books for $6.99. I'd wanted to get it when it first came out awhile back but never did, mainly due to bad reviews. But, since the opinions of people here far outweigh what some 'professional' game reviewer has to say, I'd rather take y'alls advice.

 

So...is this game worth playing?

It's been a very long time since I played it. It was fun and 'magical' at first but I found the game's enjoyment began to get bogged down with the fiddly controls and annoying command point structure for new units.

 

However, given galactic battlegrounds has at last succeeded in boring me to death... you have reminded me me of a game I ultimately had quite a few blasts of fun with... so give it a go, like I now will again! :)

LucasArts tried hard... and it nearly worked. I've played worse, and hey, a bit of variation in Star Wars never hurts.

Actually I like it more than Galactic Battlegrounds, since this was a truely 3D strategy game, instead of the 2D AOE engine the latter sadly used.

The story's also very interesting and with the help of Evaders I once could get over a very tricky part, that had me lock the game away for a long time.

 

Come to think about it, I still haven't finished it. :? Luckily I archive most of my savegames for just these reasons :roll:

Take a look in each forum and then see who the latest poster for each topic is, and the time of the post. That'll give you your answer. :wink: Oh, and he's also 'selectively exercising' his moderator powers, too. :roll:

Well, I liked Force Commander really. Great innovations, and much better gameplay. Yes the controls aren't as good, but its certainly a darn good looking game.

 

Force Commander, with the mouse-control system of Homeworld, could have been a real Star Wars RTS.

I suppose that was the real let down wasn't it, the contrrol interface. The game as i remember it was actually rather good apart frrom that. :D

Actually, Rebellion is not my favorite game. Come to think of it, I don't have any favorite games at all.

It's .3dm, which could be Rhino, only that this program won't import it :(

Thanks guys! I guess I'll just have to load it up and give it a shot, although the impression I get is that I shouldn't expect the same type of captivating magic that Rebellion still holds for me.

Well personnaly I got FC in a pack with rebellion. So you will understand that I quickly stopped playing it to pass on to swr.

I must also say that the impossible camera makes the game much less interresting. With that I later discovered swgb which I found much more fun than fc and I must say the difficulty is quite high. DEfinitely not the lucasarts game ever. :?

mask, I have no clue. The furthest we got on editting FC was the RPK extractor and inserter. Editting pictures were easy enough, models.. who knows.

Force Commander was the worse star wars game ive ever tried to play. I was waiting for this game for over a year, what a disappointment
