Best job for Skywalker?

Question

What do you think is the best job for Skywalker at the beginning of the game, espionage, sabotage, recruitment or diplomacy?

Is he wasted just recruiting people at Rebel HQ? Should I risk using him in sabotage missions? He seems to suck at diplomacy.. I can't believe Leia is his twin-sister.

I put him on recruitment mostly early in the game. As soon as he discovers a new jedi, i put him on jedi training. Alternatively, if he encounters Vader or Palpatine, I usually repeat that a few time just to beef up his force ranking...

Same here... it's recruitment all the way for major characters... diplomacy for Leia after that... and whatever you need to do with Luke... if you need to focus on diplomacy then have him diplome... if you need him to do espionage then have him espionate! :D

Yeah but Mark Hamill is too dorky for that..; Maybe Chewie is Anakin Skywalkers great-great-great grandfather!! Then again then Luke would probably have been played by Burt Renolds who has more hair on his chest..

Anyways..

So, in a far, far away, galaxy, I was just playing as the rebellion..

I am playing a small galaxy and things are going pretty well. I sent Leia and Dodonna on a diplomatic mission in the bottom right system. I left Wedge and Chewie at Sullust to form a strike team later on to deal with the one Imperial planet that's in the system (occupied by no other then General Needa!). Then I sent Han and Luke with the millenium falcon to our allied HQ in Urdur ( top right system) to pick up the people that President Mothma had promised to recruit. At Urdur, point Zulu, I ordered Luke to help Mon Mothma with her recruitment effort, like people said he should do. He sucks at recruitment too. He's very versatile in that sense..

I am taking it slow and trying to keep my cool. I think that's the big difference with the empire. Time is on your side, every 100 days I am alive is another victory. I like using bases, strongpoints to conduct my operations. Sullist is a great naval base because it's the most central system in the galaxy. When Leia finally got it (which took forever!!) It came with two shipyards and a barracks! Time to build a fleet of Y-wings to defend my stronghold. Han arrived at Sullust with Page and a few other guys, still Mon Calamari was a tough nut too crack. My missions were failing and it was obvious that I was not going to be able to kidnap Needa and cripple internal security that way.

Intelligence gathered from other systems revealed that Vader was sending staff, which he had recruited from Corfai to Mon Calamari. I only had a corvette and a medium tranport with a fleet regiment but Mon Calamari had no fleet, not even ties to defend it's airspace and I decided to block the planet to try and capture the new arrivals. Commander Pelleon was the first to be captured, then Griff and finally Grummel was unable to flee from the clutches from Admiral Solo. Time to splitt before the dessies start coming in. I dropped off Page at Sullust to conduct operations from there. The Falcon proceeded to escort the prisoners back to Point Zulu at Urdur. I had found a new planet to relocate my base too and it was time to move everybody over there.

Luke was happy to see Han and together with Mon Mothma and the prisoners ( who were not so happy..) they left for the new outpost. 200 days have past and the rebelion lives on!

Not bad for a noob, huh? How am I doing? Am I doing anything wrong? Feel free to comment..

I'd never have Leia do diplomacy right away. Get her to a planet and start recruiting as she's likely to find a new diplomat or 2 for you anyway along with the benefit of the other people you gain.

For Luke it's a harder choice. He's not as good at recruiting as Leia and he's so versitile for other things as well. I look at my starting situation. If he's close to an Imperial planet that has a construction yard I'll sabotage it right away. If he's close to a planet with shaky loyalty I'll fix that right away. Assuming those situations are under control I'll send him off to help recruit new personnel.

After I use Han to evacuate everyone from Yavin. I find a Rebel-friendly Imperial world with a Rebel world nearby and have Han and Chewie sabotage the military infraestructure while Luke tries some Incitation, or I have him recruit until he finds a substitute for him, after that I alternate him according to my needs, if I'm short on diplomats he has to be his sister's brother and go on diplomacy mission, if I have plenty of those guys he's free to go off and sabotage as much as he wants.

So maybe I should put Luke on recruitment to get the diplomats and leave Leia on Diplomacy (Luke is so 'versatile', afterall..).

I can't change it in the current game, though, which is going a little downhill lately.

The imperial nest with Needa on it in the 'Mon Calamari-System' has become a huge problem. Piett has been going around and got the empire a majority of the planets in that part of the galaxy. Most of the planets in other systems are still neutral though and he hasn't tried to attack any of my bases yet. Vader is suntanning on Averam in the core-system and doing nothing at all, ( ..except maybe playing doctor with Commander Daala or something like that ). Still I am not sure what to do about all those imperial planets in that one system where Needa is not getting a suntan. I have just dispatched a strike fleet from Balmorra and am thinking of invading Mon Calamari and taking everybody who is on it prisoner. It seems to me like it's the best way of swinging back support my way.

I have two major shipyards right now. One is at my new headquarters in the Yavin System (but not on Yavin) and one is at Sullust. Then there is the troop facility on Balmorra and I have explored some outer systems for the creation of future bases. Am I doing enough? or should I maybe have 10 of these shipyards already? Do you think attacking Mon Calamari is a good idea?

I'll keep you posted on what happens next.

He just uses his force powers to choke women on the beach while saying "You will turn to the dark side or die".

I think mixing up strategy each game helps make the game more interesting and sometimes you can stumble accross something that works really well. I imagine in MP you need to do this even more so you're opponent can't pridict what you're going to do and counter it.

There's an element of mixing tactics yeah.. but some are tried and tested...

As if i'd let that secret out!!! My point is, that whilst variation is good in repeated matches... the are some procedures, some obvious, some less so that bear repeating because of their sheer effectiveness.

E.g. i think everyone would agree that using interdictors is a sensible tactic.

I usually keep Han, Leia, and Luke on Yavin until day 60. In an unedited game, there shouldn't be an Imperial Task Force that can get there before then. This will give you ample time to recruit 4-8 characters. Mon Mothma stays put at the HQ until day 100-120, whereupon she leaves for Diplomacy missions. Wedge, Chewie, and Dodonna load up on whatever ship is parked over Yavin and head to the nearest shipyard in the Core, A.S.A.P. Chewie bases out of this system against nearby Imperial worlds, while Wedge (or Dodonna in my game  ) researches and Dodonna diplomes (or Wedge harasses Imperial fleets with the fledgling Rebel fleet and his 733t starfighter ski11z, given my changes :D ).

At day 60, everyone loads up on the Millennium Falcon, and Han taxi's them to the nearest sector in need of characters (although, I tend to send the first 2-3 characters recruited into the core prior to Han leaving Yavin, just so that I don't waste time). I'll drop off Leia to have her diplome, along with an 'Admiral' and 'Commander' character for the Sector Fleet, as well as one dedicated 'Espionage & Combat' specialist, assuming they are recruited. Then, Han & Luke and the remaining characters move on to the next sector. Luke stays there, and will diplome until a planet is at 100% loyalty. Then he starts recruiting. Han continues on, dropping characters off as needed, before recruiting on a planet with 100% loyalty.

This usually means that I have recruitment done by day 200-250. Those remaining days prior to Luke jetting off to Dagobah finds him performing espionage and sabotage missions, hoping for foiled missions to increase his Force rating. In the rare occasion in which Vader or the Emperor is found away from Coruscant, the planet is blockaded and Luke is ferried there post-haste. The garrison is eliminated by a non-Force user or bombardment, and after 2-3 abduction missions on the Emperor/Vader by Luke, he's ranked as a Jedi Student or Jedi Knight. Other characters are ferried to that spot in the hopes that Luke will discover their Force potential before he leaves for Dagobah. Once he returns, he is free to begin training the characters.

But that's just how I do things. It may not work out so well for you.

I rarely use Mr. Skywalker for recruitment. I always let him do the hard stuff, like sabotaging ISDs orbiting Coruscant (more then twice a game usually). I also used him once to incite an uprising on some corellian system...the mission was foiled, but he later kidnapped the local general (with han&chewie). I did'nt have the time for further incitement, so I used him again to sabotage the small (2-3 ships) fleet orbiting the planet. My Corvettes bombed the garrison away, and it was done. He was only captured once in that game, he's very rarely captured. I lost that game though. I'm a newbie after all.
Sorry for wasting your time and space...
