Hastings Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Has anyone played TIE Fighter on XP? I know it's an old game but everytime I try to play, it says I must install DirectX 5.2 and I have DirectX 8.0 installed along with the latest drivers for my video card(GeForce4 Ti4400). I wanna know why the man has a gun and the gun not the man keeps the world at bay. I wanna hear what the man has to say, what the man has to say might just save me.
Hastings Posted November 13, 2002 Author Posted November 13, 2002 Nevermind, I checked the LucasArts website and since Windows XP isn't a "TRUE DOS" platform, TIE Fighter and X-Wing won't run. I should put together a real garbage computer so I can run older games . Damn XP. I wanna know why the man has a gun and the gun not the man keeps the world at bay. I wanna hear what the man has to say, what the man has to say might just save me.
Rogue13 Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 I have the newest edition of TIE fighter. The one that comes on the CD. It runs on my XP Professional fine (i think it is the aniversary edition designed to run on the newer operating systems), the only problem i have is that i have a USB joystick and the game won't recognise it. I will have to look out my older joystick and see if it works. 2xtreme Gaming Clan http://www.clan-2xtreme.co.uk Counterstrike Source : 195.20.109.124:27015Day of Defeat : 195.20.109.124:27025Team Fortress Classic : 195.20.109.124:27030Counterstrike 1.6 : 195.20.109.124:27040
Guest JediIgor Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 I think there's 2 versions of TIE fighter, the one for DOS that most people have, and the one for Windows. If that is so, do you have the Windows version mr. Rogue13? I would love to play TIE Fighter once again (but cant cause of XP)... ahh, the memories..
the_mask Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 I also bought the Win version long ago. It's really worth it, cause you get the additional campains, plus one new if I recall correctly. .... Welcome Admiral Harkov, we have a matter to discuss .... rrrrggg .... http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Rogue13 Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Yes i had to buy it. I got it from a games store closing down sale. The best £5 i ever spent. I also had it on the DOS version. But gave it to my uncle cause he has an old win95 machine that it works on. 2xtreme Gaming Clan http://www.clan-2xtreme.co.uk Counterstrike Source : 195.20.109.124:27015Day of Defeat : 195.20.109.124:27025Team Fortress Classic : 195.20.109.124:27030Counterstrike 1.6 : 195.20.109.124:27040
the_mask Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 Well, in my case XWA were the best 5 bucks I ever invested. (Tie/F cost more when I bought it ) http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted November 13, 2002 Posted November 13, 2002 XWA - one of the greatest games of all time. And so easy to make new missions on it. Elvismiggell. TK421 Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 lucasarts released a patch to run older star wars games under XP Z'anthr saves the world. Sorry about the mess...
Jahled Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 Agreed...trouble is after a year and a half of trying to 'inspect every cargo container,' in one of the early missions, I thought sod this for 'entertainment.' Yawn...that has to rank as one of the most pointless, infuriating, and computer-destructive levels in any game, ever; Damn! I'll go out and buy a Star Wars game to get stuck on a level inspecting cargo containers, helping out a sister who sounds like she's got two corks stuck up her nose! Unless anyone has got any helpfull suggestions, above and beyond 'you must remember to do this,' or 'try doing this,' (IE: a very 'helpfull' cheat to bypass this most agonizing level), the XWA disk is going to end up being used in my ongoing war with the neigbours opposite as ammunition, as we argue about Drum & Bass noise levels; when i'm trying to command my galaxy...or chase my cat around around the house. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
ElvisMiggell Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 TIE fighter is better, but you've gotta say, XWA is the best looking SW flight sim of all time, and if you don't like the campaign, build your own, or i'll build one for you. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
UntimelyDemise Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 lucasarts released a patch to run older star wars games under XP eh? I didn't see it on Lucasarts' website...btw, does anybody else get an annoying little "flash" when playing Rebellion on XP? I think XP is weirded out by a game that runs in 256 color. I wonder if the patch improves Rebellion's performance on XP? Since I'm at work and the damn firewalls prevent me from visiting lucasarts.com, could someone let me know? the_mask Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I only found the old 1.01 patch from '98. It says: Corrects: Users of the English version who attempted to play a multiplayer game with an International version (Spanish, French, Italian or German) would sometimes receive a "Game Not Found" error. This problem has been fixed. I didn't even know there was a German version But I don't think 3PO would sound the way I'm used to it. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
UntimelyDemise Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 "Achtung!" cries 3P0! Gotta say, that's the extent of my knowledge of German... Hey, I think I figured out what the deal is with that "flash". If you right-click on the shortcut, there are several new options on XP. One in particular is an option to "play in 256 colors". I think I'm going to try that and see if it helps. Also, it seems you can "emulate" a Win 95/98 machine with XP! I'm really starting to like XP! I'll bet that might help with Tie Fighter on XP as well...I'll have to dig out the old CD! the_mask Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Hehe, here's a new one to your repertoire: 3PO says 'Oh je, oh je' for 'Oh dear, oh dear' in the German sync during the movies, like in ESB. Try the options on XP, although I had no probs running Rebellion on my XP-"enhanced" Notebook. Maybe the flash is something from your gfx card, dunno. Well, at least with the "emulate" function I was able to raise the old XWing game from the dead-and-non-responsive under XP. A tip for TIE: set the EMS memory option to automatic, cause the games will complain otherwise http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif

dude21 Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Has anyone an idea where I can get a german Language Patch for SW-Rebellion? "I am growing stronger with the Force"
ElvisMiggell Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Hmmmm, I know there is one, just trying to think where you might find it. Try happypuppy.com or just use google to do a search on something like 'patches language star wars rebellion' or star wars supremacy depending on what version you've got. Elvismiggell. dude21 Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 What version hmm believe 1.0 but not sure "I am growing stronger with the Force"
ElvisMiggell Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 If you've never patched it before it'll be 1.0, which means I believe, that you need the 1.1 patch which if i remember includes language support. I think LucasArts have it on their site. Elvismiggell. Strike me down and i will become more powerful than you can ever imagine... Nu kyr'adyc, shi taab'echaaj'la Not gone, merely marching far away
dude21 Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Ok ill found the 1.1 patch but there is no language support "I am growing stronger with the Force"
ElvisMiggell Posted April 17, 2003 Posted April 17, 2003 Meh! Um, apart from that I don't really know. Best bet is to ask someone in Germany or email LucasArts. Sorry. Elvismiggell.
