what the heck is that ugly thing...

I suspect it was supposed to be a rebellion ship (given the context)

But I'm clueless what it was supposed to be.

Wait! Maybe it means lucas arts is going to release a rebellion update!

We should save it to illustrate that SOME good decisions were actually made.

As you can tell, I really really like that ship.

It's like someone said, "Hey! We've got ships that look like fishes... how about birds!?"

Then someone else said, "Yeah! Like a Dodo bird! Those are cool!"

Creativity. Don't let it happen to you.

(I joke. I joke, cause I love. Feel the love. That'll be 49.99. Thank you.)

Just took a snapshot of that specific ship. Beats me what it is though...

I don't see a description for the Bakuran ship other than this:

The power plant of this design was based on the Imperial-II class Star Destroyer, but the exterior was much more fluid in shape than the angular Imperial warship.

Great catch! Whether you guys think the mystery ship is ugly or not, this means, we have again uncovered unpublished material regarding Rebellion and I think that's a good thing. Is may be hidden somewhere in the Rebellion code. 8)

Are there any other animated gifs on the Rebellion website?

Now that you meantion it, I saw, that the pic used for Han Solo is also not, what they later used for his card.

That ship doesn't look like anything I know from the Rebellion era. It reminds me more of the Old Republic ships, during the Sith wars.

It just occured to me there might be a model for whatever this ship is; either hidden in the game code with all the other unused stuff or lurking around on a game developer's hard drive. Perhaps one of us should approach Lucasarts and enquire! Or, Scathe, why not ask your contact??

There is an image of a Bakuran Destroyer in the essential Chronology. While it isn't exactly alike it is pretty similar.

Anyone else think it looks like it may have been designed by the same people that made the Bulwark Battlecruiser?

And maybe crossed it with a Klingon Bird Of Prey?

Y'all only saw this thing just now. Man, I must've paid too much attention or been really bored the first time I browsed through that site. :D I saw it about 2-3 years ago but dismissed it, since it wasn't a canon ship as far as I knew, and it was pretty...odd, to boot. Still, it would be cool to see what else is hidden in all that wonderful Rebellion source code...

And shame on me for not bringing it up sooner, right?

Wouldn't want to call it a nice source code...

Tongue-in-cheek, TK. :D However, it would be wonderful to actually get our grubby little mitts on the sourcecode for Rebellion.

You bet, that we'd like to see that one :D

We could finally add the highly anticipated pod-racer event, that could tip the outcome of the whole game :lol:

The game's Source Code will be ours eventually whether Lucasarts like it or not. Such is the fate of information in the 21st centuary. Nothing can remain hidden in the shadow of a spotlight indefinitely... not least with the talent and technology increasingly available to smash it's way into certain cyber-vaults sitting upon required information. A greater universe shall be eventially realized and unleashed, though our dark master might just get there first with some kind of sequal....

For such an venerable game, it amazes me how much there is left to tantilize us, and how a product with so much potential could have been so neglected by it's developer... :?

Off to bed now, to read some Dan Dare...

It's not an item that can be lost, according to my learned friend I grew up with who now lives in China; in the business of stone. It's like the basic metal framework of the game's basic construction, there is in fact nothing to be lost! Anyway, according to my friend what we need is an extremely clever individual to do stuff like reverse the game-engine's basic programing, which to be quite frank is like as alien a concept to me as... well...err.. aliens bothering to travel 50,000 light years through space just to scare the living daylights out of some poor farmer late at night in Kentucky. Aliens must have teenagers I guess.

When I was at school there wasn't a PC in the building. Hell, we thought Atari Pong was flash when we riged it to our equally crap TVs! There must be someone out there who at least knows some brain-spark capable of sussing the game's basic structure. Offer them money for god's sake.

My PC is so shagged i've resorted to a very dusty playstation-one, and am currently stuck in the nightmere zone of Duke Dukem. I've got through a door I couldn't figure out for six years of my life, only to be trapped after some laser-trip up action with nowhere to go!!! The situation is as hopless as it is grim! HELP!

Err... back to topic! Elvis my friend; never give up hope.

Well, apart from the fact, that it isn't legal to reverse-engineer the game, with a "disassembler" you can show the sourcecode of every program, but only in Assembler. This language comes right after the 0101010 concept and isn't something I, or any people I know, know much about. :(

Edit: which Duke game ? Duke 3D, ... in the land of babes, a time to kill ... ?
