Colonel_Olorin Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Krytos, Listening on the original vinyl is awesome!! -Grand Moff Conway when will the human race forget about these silly silver disc's and discover the superior sound quality of vinyl
teukros Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 The same time they (re)discover the superiority of vacuum tube based audio equipment. Put an overpowered Solar Ionization Reactor in between two cheap-ass engines and a couple of laser cannon, put a chair with a rudimentary flight control and targeting computer on top, and surround the (unpressurized!) pilot with enough armor plate so he doesn't fry in a tenth of a second... riiiiiiiiight
Colonel_Olorin Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 The same time they (re)discover the superiority of vacuum tube based audio equipment. an old work radio had them instead of transitors and it sounded ok i guess. after waiting 20 minutes for the damn thing to wam up
Paul Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I worked as a disc jockey back in the 80's when radio was still fun. We still used vinyl although CD's were beginning to make headway and we used them as well. Those were the days. Now playing: This Town by the Go Go'sGrand Moff Conway
Trejiuvanat Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 Vinyl has a much better audio quality than CDs, I wouldn't think the same of vacuum tube equipment. DMB - Everyday. http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
Jahled Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 (edited) This vinal-junky gibberish is gobblidegook. As soon as you put a needle of whatever quality on a hunk of plastic called a piece of vinal, you encounter loss of quality. Figure. Ten feet behind me i've got about seven grands's worth of stereo, cables of course included. My stint as a DJ ended essentially ended when a braindead girl in carge of a box of my finnest extremely expensive records left it on a flight of stairs waiting for a minincab here in London. I lost vinal LPs from Brazil that had cost me anything from £30 to over £100 each. That night I was destroyed. The morning after I made the decision to go to a Buddhist monestry for three weeks. Which I did, shortly after. But now i've overcome my loss, i've been able to replace my losses on CD with carefully searching on the web.... and gosh they sound better on top-spec hi-fi equipment..... teukros Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Hey Jahled, I lost three thousand dollars worth of vinyls years and years ago. All classical. A high quality vinyl is a very fine thing indeed. I still have fond memories of a boxed Philips set of Handel's Organ Concerti. Of course a high quality CD is also very good. And crap vinyls and crap CDs all sound like crap. There's something to be said for CDs though. They're small and light and with a modicum of care can remain essentially pristine for years, regardless of use. Just imagine if computer technology had, somehow or other, gone in the direction of recording data on vinyl disks... all of us trying to keep all of our vinyl Rebellion disks working after all of these years of using them... Krytos Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Tool - The Grudge True, I find CDs sounds better and the upcoming super audio CDs will be great. However, Vinyl does have this unique sound to it that makes older songs sound better. Though I've tested the theory of vinyl vs. CD, and on my dad's stereo the CDs usually sound better. . . http://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://img152.imageshack.us/img152/1333/3dartistbanneranimationws1.gifhttp://img154.imageshack.us/img154/4026/rebellionbannerdi2.gif

As I think Teukros tried to convey, words brake down into meaninglessness when you try and express that moment of devestation when you realize your records are gone.... What hurt most was the time, effort, and energy it took me to get those records, and the realization there was no way I was going to be able to replace them in anything short of the other side of five years. CD has enabled me to get most of what I lost back, though in most cases on Japanese import, which costs muchos money. One thing I will say about vinal though, is that my experiances of trying to DJ with CDs has been an absolute nightmere. oh... Rush-Bastille day http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif

Jahled Posted March 16, 2005 Posted March 16, 2005 Jahled, you could really host some of your records on your new site This is very true. I'll add it to my list of things to do when I catch up with the modern world as far as internet connection goes.... That Jorge Ben CD I sent you was one of the records I had pinched on vinal, I paid £95 for it originally.... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
