Moff Jerjerrod's Last Stand

First I must tell you that I play a heavily modded version of Rebellion. Neatly balanced, but modded nonetheless.

After hours of editted, revising and re-shaping the galaxy I decided to test it fully while playing.

The evening proceded well. Diplomatic efforts had secured some sectors for me, R&D mission were advancing.

Shiplanets (Planets with more than 7 shipyard) were building Impstars like crazy. On Kuat (soon enough you will learn where that is  ) I had built two Golans for system defense, as well as an Allegiance(Jerjerrod was on one of the Golans). The shipyards there were busy building TIE Int Squadrons. Thrawn's Group, consisting of 5 Imperial Star Destroyer was insystem waiting for the TIE squadorn before he headed out to the Rim. WIth little or none Rebel presence in the Core Sectors, the Espionage missions weren't turing much information. I had a couple of leads and I wanted Thrawn's fleet to go out.

While I waited a Rebel Fleet entered the system.

Under the Command of Garm Bel Iblis 6 Rebel Star Destoryer (I have the Impstar for both sides), 2 Light Mon Cal Cruiser, 3 Escort Carriers, and 6 Freighters entered the system. To my dismay they did have an interdictor. A Peregrine Strike Cruiser.

I knew from the beginning that the battle was lost. The key to battles is starfighter superiority and the Rebels outgunned and outmanned me 3 to 1 in that regard. While Thrawn's Group and the Allegiance could do a lot of damage to the Rebel Destroyers, I opted for sending all my Destroyers against the Peregrine.

The TIEs were quickly wiped out. The cloud of Rebel vermin attacked one destroyer, then another. The Chimaera kept pounding the Pregrine but the combined of the Rebel Destroyers and Starfighters were slowly eating away her shields.

The Golans had been dealing with the Mon Cal Cruisers, one of them was already crippled so I had the Golans take on the fighters. The fighters quickly lef the Chimaera alone and attacked the Golans. The Chimaera and the rest of Thrawn's group (The Allegiance had already been crippled by the Liberty and the Autonomy) destroyed the Peregrine, so I had them maneuver to a position from which they could enter hyperspace. I wanted to give the Golan's a last chance. Perhaps they could pull of a miracle.

They did sort of. The Golans were in between the Rebel Destroyers and my own. The Golans exchanged salvos with the Autonomy, which had endured damage from the fight with the Allegiance, and managed to cripple her. The Starfighters, though, had lost som eof their number to the Golans but in the end they destroye on of them leaving the second Golan with Jerjerrod on her as the only barrier between the Rebels and Thrawn's Group.I still withstood the desire to hype away and even send the Inexorable back into the middle of the fight. From the distance whatever destroyer from Thrawn's Group that still had weapons fired from the distance on the Liberty. WIth the Inexorable in the middle of the Rebel Destroyer fromation, they managed to cripple the Liberty. In return the Inexorable lost her engines and the Starfighters started to make runs on her, all while the remaining Golan was blown to bits.

Realizing that I didn't really have any other choice I fled.

The postbattle summary was depressing. Two Golan Space Stations, an Allegiance Star Destroyer and an Imperial Mark II Destroyer destroyed along with 18 TIE Interceptor squadrons.

The Rebels lost about 6 X-Wing squadron and two B-Wing squadrons, in addition to the loss of the Rebel Star (the Peregrine Cruiser) and a Light Mon Cal. Three Rebel Destroyer were stranded in orbit around Kuat. The functional elements of the Rebel fleet razed Kuat to the ground before they sent the trooper regiments to assault it.

The effect of the loss of my ships in addition to the bombardment and the assault made me lose favor with my only two other system in the sector. Placing them on the edge of an uprising. With Jerjerrod dead I lost my sector diplomat and I'll have to rush Vader out of the Outer Rim pacification missions back to the Core.

However I'm still glad that Thrawn's Group made it off from Kuat and is now enroute to Corellia for some repairs. I have enough ships, so I can reinforce Thrawn's fleet and send him to retake Kuat.

Lastly I want to say that's it's been one of the toughest battles I have fought in a while. The reshaped galaxy, the models and the stat changes do really breath life back into the game, and made it more interesting.

Great story, Trej!

I've been "beta testing" my own variant, with a few unexpected and spurising results myself. I've got Valkir (he lost his password; I've been trying to get him to re-register) testing and providing feedback on the Imperial side, and the overall impression from both of us is similar to your own. The new models, cards, stats, etc. really do excite those of us who have become used to the old, original game.

I'm interested to see your changes to the galaxy map. Did you change things around to look like the map Scathane posted a link to in some other thread? (the one from nav-computer.com?)

BTW, according to the site history and your bio, you're in charge of the Rebellion Encyclopedia and FAQ's, right? I was thinking; the encyclopedia simply regurgitates the information that can be gotten in-game. Why not take the time to list things like the source material and more complete background for each character (if available), longer ship descriptions, etc.? I'd be willing to help if the idea's worth merit.

Trejiuvanat - sounds like a great TC! :D Hope you post it...

About TC's, I've noticed that when I load different versions of mine the ship models don't load. I assume we need to offer people the tactical.dll in addtion to the reb setting?

Texas_Fett - the encyclopedia was actually what brought me to this site (I was using a search engine and it listed an swrebellion encyclopedia entry). I also thought the encylopedia was kinda lacking... 8O but then again it was scrounging around the website that helped me discover RebEd and the rest.

Another idea I thought would be cool is to have a 'gallery' of the dll pictures, both of the original game and member submitted.

Maybe that's something I'll have to post on my own site, if I ever get it up and running.

You could also include screenshots of your best battles in the gallery?

I don't see why not, although I had initially envisioned it as more of a repository for pictures to be used in replacing those in the DLL's. Yet keeping a few screenshots of battles and summaries of strategies/tactics would be an interesting addition as well.

  • 3 weeks later...

I prefer to think of it as everyone here is too busy modifying Rebellion to actually play. :D I have a feeling that once Reloaded is released and everyone gets a chance to play it, we'll see some more stories in here.

Although, part of the problem is that everyone is running such heavily modified versions of Rebellion which may or may not be similar to anyone elses, which makes telling stories about what happens in-game rather difficult without a lengthy introduction listing your changes.

Yeah, but Mask and the others sometimes drop us a bone or two to keep our appetites whetted. :D

Personally, I'm so busy play-testing my version and comparing notes with one of my buddies that I don't really get a chance to sit and enjoy the game itself very much. I really need to, if for nothing else than provide material to get this forum up and going again. Hmm...

BTW, congratulations on your promotion, sir!

My version of Rebellion is in some sense a Reloaded beta. Galaxy map's the same, most ships that will be in the TC, I have. Most chars as well.

Once Reloaded is finished and released, I'm sure more stories like this one will appear.

I think, Reloaded could be released this summer. Around August...

But if not, still, it will be completed this year. Trej?

Taking screenshots is an excellent idea! From now, on, I'll keep running IrfanView under Rebellion  Some nice shots would give us a chance to build up a gallery on this site...

heh last time i asked you said it may not be ready before episode 3 so... :)
Hey, since when did we abandon the good old "when it's done" ?

Nah , if everything works out as well as LaForge predicted this could be a realistic release date.
