playing without a CD

Featured Replies

is it possible to play the game without the cd. i have a laptop and my only cd drive is in my docking station is there any way i can play the game on the laptop while i am mobile. I have my own cd i paid for and everything. Any help is appreciated.

Yes it is possible.

It is called the Rebellion game "crack" (i believe)

I think it used to be available here on this site, but I checked the downloads section and didn't see it.

If you use that fixed EXE, you will have no movie cutscenes play.

Easy to do also if you can spare some HHD space is to use an emulater, simply make a full image file (Alcohol 120 or MagicISO), then use Daemon Tools to mount the disk image. That way you do not need the precious cd inside the drive. On my system, it would make the cd spin all the time until I did that. 500 Megs

Of course, you need the original game disc to make the image file, so this is not piracy. Just a legal no cd work around.

I should try that as well.

It would be great to see the cutscenes and have the music play again.

That's the downside of the "crack" it takes away those two elements.

Yeah, I have been using an iso and a virtual drive for years now. Works perfectly :)

However - I am trying to do the same with Battlefront II and Empire at War at the moment - and it's hell... :( Both seem to dislike the idea of being run on a virtual drive :( I would be very glad if anyone of you had any suggestion how to fix that.

Asteroids do not concern me...
