Hello guys i'd like to form a big group of modders who would be willing to research the ways of modding EAW and FoC. We would be starting off with making technology levels to function even when we have more levels eg. 10th tech level or more. Would any1 be interrested so that i can make a forum for this?

I think its a great idea to try and research ways of making new tech levels for the game. 5 just isn't enough for the aims of some mods. I could do with another 2 or three tech levels - but I have never worked out how to make that work properly. Its got my vote ! 

More tech lvls is always welcome.

5 tech levels were enought for the original game but of course for a mod which enhances things and adds nearly double times the things at least 2 more tech levels are needed.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think Z3r0x is wrong. :-\ I haven't tried, but I think you could copy the "tech up" code.

 

Tech levels 6 and 99 are hardcoded to not exist, though... Or you may get a ton of disabled units at tech 6...

They should.

Its just a text number, its nothing build into the GUI.

Its like cost.

You can have up to 16 factions also but they all show up as Pirates.. What dont you unnderstand about "HARDCODED".. There are workarounds for tech.. but its not really a new tech.

Techs are not hardcoded. 'Tech'nically they are, buy you can probably add new tech upgrades to the game, unlocking more tech levels. I'm not sure if you're allowed to use them past 98.

All this "probably" can drive one crazy.

You cant go to tech 99.. ROFL.. the reason some Unique units have tech 99 is just way to make it NOT buildable on the builbar. They do this so the unit can be built via Story XMLS.. and not be tech based.

I also heard that some one got it to go another few Tech Levels ? never saw anything else mentioned about it though. But 2 more tech levels would be more than enough. anyone wanting them up to 99 must be mad.

well if this is the case you should explain how this was done ? don't you think ? - you could be sitting on information useful to many of us on here.

6 is also unusable. But you could probably rename 7 to 6, and 8 to 7, etc.

Like I said there are work arounds. The empire would be the problem. The Rebels dont research tech the way the Empire does. Neither does the UW.

True, but how is he gonna do it then? The idea of new tech levels is great.
