Another Unit Thread

What I don't understand about units is that Star Wars sets up the perfect tech tree in order to have a lot of ships and have them balanced, but it doesn't seemed to be used in this game.

I thought this was going to be how it was with Delphi orginally saying how the Ven would be "Old tech".

If they did it this way the game would allow to have many moire ships and keep it balanced:

Venator-ISD-ISD II

Acclamator(assuming it is a light frigate like they said)-Victory-Victory II

Tie-Interceptor-Defender

Patrol Crusier-Carrak

Assualt Frigate MkI-Assualt Frigate MkII

z-95-x-wing-updated x-wing

y-wing-b-wing-updated b-wing

The ships would basically do the same thing, but be a little better. I would hope you wuld still be able to keep the old units tho for a cheaper price. I hate games that updated all the old stuff automatically, I like my vintage stuff.

Well, i think they originally planned to have all the expected units. Based on early statements about "classic battles", based on the 50+ unused models, and based on the fact that Fosh claims to have seen the SSD in a euro mag.

I think midway through production, they changed thier mind (Likely around the time they changed the release date), be if for expansion reasons or shorter development time, they decided to change the timeline/tech tree to what it is now.

Yea but you would have thought they would have added to it with the longer development time they had

the new and old thing would take up more coding than there is space as they still have to do ground as well but don't worry they are hoping to bring an expansion out to give us the units we're all missing.

I highly doubt that is the problem (remember the originally had 50 models). I do wish the US would make games on DVDs so that they can hold more information, tho.

Having an expansion is nothing more than a possibility depending on sales of EAW. Nothing has been committed to yet.
