Welcome to the forums jedi mike!

Since we don't know if you can retreat one ship or if have to retreat your whole force, I'm going to play it safe and say you'll have to retreat your whole force. However an alternative to retreating it out of the battlefield would be to just pull the ship back from the combat and hope that the enemy does not continue to attack it. Also you could have it run through all your ships and have your other ships kill off the ships persuing the ship that you want to save (hope you followed me through that :)) :D

Didn't petroglyph say that retreating your forces is a major part of the games tactics ? So IMO the last possibility you mention seems to be the most fitting. But as you said... it's not more than speculation...
I'm pretty sure that you can only retreat your whole force, but I'm not sure. If your capital ships are taking a lot of damage, you wouldn't want to keep the rest of your ships there anyway!

ya if the capitals sre in danger of dieing then ur screwed so an all out retreat would be best anyway!
This actually leads to a question I've been pondering. If the enemy retreats can you follow them into hyperspace and then finish them off? Or does their damage automatically repair once they leave the battle? I know we don't have this information yet, but it's something else to think about.

I did ask a question about retreating. For the answer...Monday is almost here.... ;)

But where will they go when they retreat, like to the nearest friendly planet or can you actually select where you want them to go?

The more likely option is that you choose where your fleet is going after retreating, and of course it has to be a near planet.
