Is the fog of war something that can be set on or off? Or can it be edited in XML files?

I always like it on. You have better chances to flank your enemy and do surprise attacks.

 

I understand how some people would like to turn it off.

Against the AI, I find it hard to flank them whether the FoW is on or off. Human players I prefer it to be on since they know just a little as you do on troop movement of the opposing side. But the AI always seems to be a bit omniscient when it comes to my positiion.

AI is the computer and your playing on the computers terms so of course they would know where you are.

Most games have one part of the computer running the game, and a seperate part being the AI, on most new games the AI can not cheat, (Get extra resouses, see your troops) and will play like any human player.

I hope you can toggle it. Against a human player, I would want it on, but against a computer player, I would want it on. They had better not have fog of war in space.............

I think you will be able to toggle in the game settings for skirmish and multiplayer battles.

SO, whats the big problem, It only opens up loads of new tactics.

In space, you can see everything! There should be no surprises or fog of war! You should know exactly what you're up against so that you can retreat if you want to.

If your on top of a mountain you should see farther also Think about it your on the CNN Tower or the........Eiffel Tower or some huge tower in USA and you see more then on the ground Same with the air units.

 

In space you can only see so far like here to the moon or here to Mars or Jupiter.

i think there should be definate fog of war, no toggle, why should you cheat? it just seems cheating and less realistic being able to see everthing at the same time, including in space.

Not for cheating purposes. Just for esthetic reasons, I suppose. RTW, for example, simply had an enable/disable line in its files. "Fogofwar = true", or something like that. If you had an inkling to disable it for the world map, you'd just change "true" to "false."

im not saying you could use it to cheat, but if you had scouted the entire map, then whats the strategy? you can see where the enemy is ata all time!

 

its the toggle i dont like, we need FOW for good!

Most RTSs i played gige you a choice, so i don't see why this one will be any different, and i you get the choice to and don't want to, then don't.
