could you land more than one force and draw the garrison away leaving the base relatively undefended? for a strike by a flanking force? if you could then this would be really cool.

I would assume so if you've captured another of those 'strategy points' (can't remember their actual name). I don't know if you can land without being near to one of them. Having said that, Delphi said they were easily captured, so I say why not.

Capture two points either side of their main base and then use one in a hit and run distraction sense, while you prepare the other side for full invasion of their base. If the enemy likes chasing small armies then you're in luck. The only problem is with a split army you leave both smaller groups at the mercy of the large enemy one. True, it will take longer, and taking out their buildings will be a plus, but unless you can distract them long enough you may get heavy casualties.

This might work well with the 'full retreat' we've seen. Hit and running bases this way could cause some damage that would take a while to recover from.

i have to agree with Darkmark, but i havet to say one thing: like many other stratigies it will hevely depend on the enemy AI.
Strategic points? Hm, I'm in the dark now - when were these talked about?

there are like the respawn points in Battlefront if you ever played it, they are where you drop off your troops when you enter the ground portion of the game.

yeah i saw them but you could use a split army more than one large army because of the hit and run tactics but you can hit and run with one and keep the other back building for a main assault or a Guarded Retreat.

Landing more than one is one of the main tactics of conquering anything. One or more as decoys and one main one.

You have to be careful with them. If they have a strong defensive force, it could easily overwhelm one half of your split force. Once that's happened, you can be sure they'll go about hunting down the rest.

They may also split their army too, so then the battle becomes more about how much control you have over two seperate armies.

There are plenty of possibilities for what your enemy can do in that situation. But, since they're on defence, you probably can't expect them to stray too far from their base without some leftover base support. This probably wouldn't be too good for a full attack, but like I said, hit and running could probably make it worthwhile.

For full attack, my opinion is to keep the force together but attack from a direction they least expect, instead of splitting it too much. The element of surprise with that is probably better in that case than the split army variety.

yeha well faced with the dilema of defending this postion id just sit tight and draw them in with a tempting target, then hit them in the flank deal with one then the other dont let them both hit me at the same time.

Could the defender call in a fleet from a different planet, then land those ground troops to surround the attackers?

no, you would have to win the space battle to retake the the area around the planet to send down troops, and as far as i know you can not have a ground and space battle going on at the same time.
We know from the chat that you have to capture the reinforcement points with infantry to land multiple forces, but when you get multiple reinforcemet points, it should work.

then thats good i had a thought about this tactic during my Sociology Lesson. land 3 battlions of Soldiers plus a few Artillery. in 2 of the 4 corners on the map, then launch units 1&3 down the edge of the map, while using units 2&4 to the centre as a distraction, keeping units 5-6 back as reserves just incase. when your flanking forces are in position you start a rolling Barrage and move your centre divisions forward just as they engage the defense your flanking forces hit from the side and the reserves move to cover the Centre units and mopping up actions when you succed

It would depend on whon was in the force. If there was a hero then the enemy may come and try to make him withdraw. Otherwise they may just wait for you to come sending out probes to test your strength doing recon of the forces you command.

well the hero thing can also be used because i could land a hero later on making a public show of it when they come for him hit the base with one force and then hit the attackers from the other. this would mean that you have them from behind as well as the front so if you need support at your base you can bring it and if you defeat their base you have a force to come back and defeat their attack. but the probes wouldnt find a forward force because they would only find the main base not a flanking force.
