October 8, 200521 yr Here's an intereasting thing I was thinking about the other day. Before episode I, when it was just the orig. trilogy in the flight sim games and novels they had quite a bit of ships that were the "prototypes" or predessors of other star wars ships. Such as the Z-95 head hunter (X-Wing) or Victory Class Star Destroyer (Imperial SD). Now the question is... in your opinion do you think Lucas made a mistake in not incoroporating ANY of them in the prequel? I mean he really didnt add any of these already established starships to his prequel. Now maybe he didnt use them because they were EU material. Though you cant say that because Lucas did use some major EU material in making his prequel. What is one of them?, you may ask... well Coruscant. This planet was invented by Timothy Zahn in his trilogy of novels, the Thrawn Trilogy. So what do you think he should have used the already established ships? or are the newer ones better? http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
October 8, 200521 yr Well, most of them were EU creations. However, the VSD was his (or rather, his emploees, as he just approves what is used and not ), and was originally to be starring as the ship we see in the opening scene of ANH. So I'm abit dissapointed that that one wasn't even included, yeah. But, George does what George wants. http://www.lfnetwork.com/images/lfnlinker.gifStar Wars: Empire at War.Net Moderator&SWGalaxies Moderator Co-Leader of The Affiliates! -A-- What we do in life, echoes in eternity!- May the pants be with you!
October 8, 200521 yr it would have been cool to have some early pre later trilogy ships in but he sort of did it already. although we didnt see many warships in 1, an a little in 2 it wasnt uuntil 3 then we saw the ships really take on the later trilogy likeness. I've have you now - Lord Vader

That would have been sweet to see that coming after the Tantive, but the ISD did the job perfectly well itself. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
October 8, 200521 yr I like the new ships. Nothing against the Vic or Z-95 , but the Venator and ARC do look better. And I do like the that there are more ships added to the star wars universe. and Timothy Zahn didn't invent coruscant, Lucas did. Was in his original draft of star wars, but he never gave an official name, just "Imperial Center". Zahn just gave it the name Coruscant and it stuck.
October 9, 200521 yr Author But Zahn still made Coruscant. Lucas may have made the, "Imperial Center" but Zahn gave it a name and a better description. And Lucas used the name and many aspects from Zahn's novels. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
October 9, 200521 yr There WAS a VSD in the prequels -- when the DVD comes out, look at the Imperial Starship that Palps, Vader and Tarkin are on when we see the Death Star being built. The cruiser is a VSD, IMO. It is definetely different from the Venators that are escorting it. Only logical assumption is VSD, but we won't know for sure for a couple of weeks, I suppose. And because both sides in the Clone Wars already had distinctive visual styles, putting something so similar, like a Z-95 in, was unlike putting the ARC-170 in, which was not a modified X-Wing/Headhunter, but only resembled it.
October 9, 200521 yr Author There WAS a VSD in the prequelsI don't think so.... I think that was just anouther example of a ship that was newly created. But we wont know until the DVD comes out. EDIT: Well lookie what I found on Starwars.com! It isnt a VSD at the ending of the ep. III. Here's a pic: http://tinypic.com/egbl88.jpg I found this while searching the TV spot Ads. Here's a link to watch it yourself: http://www.starwars.com/episode-iii/release/trailer/endofwar.html As far as the ARC-170 that is an obvious pre-Xwing fighter. It is even made by Incom, same makers as X-wings. http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/3269/pffuserbar2globalmodnx9.jpg> Petroglyph Forums Moderator> LucasForums Moderator
October 9, 200521 yr Looks like there is a ship between the Venator and ISD then!! http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa197/knivesdamaster/tags/sith_omguserbar_member.jpg
October 9, 200521 yr I don't have the book handy but i think that the Z-95 headhunter was mention in the Episode 1 Book. Of course its been a few years since i read it but i'm fairly sure that it was in it. Plus i believe that is the Z-95 engines were used in Anikans Pod Racer. Other wise i like the ships used in the movies, the only thing i don't like is twenty odd years between the trilogies the ships don't seem to advance much, in fact it looks like technology regressed...but thats what happens they make ep 4, 5 & 6 before you make 1, 2, & 3. October 9, 200521 yr I don't think the Z-95 was ever a frontline fighter, even when it was new. Speaking of old technology, does anyone else thing the Republic Gunship in Ep.II looks like the Mi-24 Hind? I'm now teh lurker.http://miniprofile.xfire.com/bg/bg/type/2/swiftdraw.png

The Emperor must be a technophobe lol. Sparky Look at KOTOR, their technology isn't to far regressed from the movies. 4,000 years. Some galaxy hit a technology plateau....
October 9, 200521 yr Look at KOTOR, their technology isn't to far regressed from the movies. 4,000 years. Some galaxy hit a technology plateau.... I didn't like that fact either...but that may because Bioware want to make sure that it kept a whole Star Wars fell to it...Although a technology palteau is possible. We will eventually get there with our current technology...theres only so much they can cram into a signal computer chip. Currently we double our personal computing speeds every 18 months, eventually that will level off. Sparky
October 9, 200521 yr The v-wing from the movie reminds me very much of a z-95, the databank says it is a combination of a-wing and tie, which i kind of see http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/z95headhunter/img/eu_bg.jpg http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/vwingstarfighter/img/movie_bg.jpg
October 11, 200521 yr Speaking of old technology, does anyone else thing the Republic Gunship in Ep.II looks like the Mi-24 Hind? Of course they took their inspiration from it The hunchback cockpit configuration was influenced by the the Russian Hind helicopter design. Databank entry about the Gunship
