  1. Alright, the first part about the imps. If you start the skirmish with an Imp CPU player, it will crash. HOWEVER, if you start as Imp, then start another game with CPU Imp it will be fine. N/S why, but it works. Ship descriptions are being redone, so the old ones are no good anyway. Scenarios is exactly what it sounds like. Pre-made scenarios with specific ships, etc. It's self-explanatory. Look down the map list and you'll see some of the options. The Fighter Spawn thing is a script to make managing capital ships easier, when enemy ships are nearby it every so often spawns a squadron or two, this feature currently only works in scenarios mode. Not sure what "OFFLINE ONLY" is, I personally haven't noticed any differences. Light flares, when you look at a star or what not, the special effect light flare. Confederacy of Independent Systems. The Trade Federation, Technounion, and other Separatist factions from Ep3 (and yes the alliance is really called that" There aren't any probs that I know of with the Mon Cal. For the most part, there aren't any bugs in this mod except ones relating to incomplete ships/game mechanics. Side effect of the mod not being done yet. There's no manual yet, I believe there's one in the works. So yes, this is the right place to ask your questions As for maps... it depends on your preference. I like really large maps, and the Cron Drift and Hunting Fields are two of my favorites. The Drift is pretty cool, be sure and take a look Smaller maps... I really don't know. Most of the smaller maps are TOO small and when I see that it's such I just load another. The ships fire too far and travel to fast for a lot of the smaller maps and are too big for that matter. I don't know if you're using oldships.big There are a lot of really cool ships in it, but they haven't been converted to the new weapon and hardpoint standards yet, so they can be somewhat difficult. Like easily disabled.... or completely unarmed.... or any other number of odd things. If you use it, expect Imperial CPUs to build a flotilla of MSH. In order to fix it, you have to extract the big and modify the appropriate file, so you'll need a bit of mod skill or inclination. Currently there isn't a fix for this for download, though it'll be addressed in the next version. I'm assuming. As will a number of other problems.
  2. I was briefly confused by the music, too at first. When starting a game, scroll down the list till you see "random music" or something to that effect and tell it yes, otherwise it runs through HW2 music in sequence. THAT prob at least I know exactly As for why it started working, since you say those WERE current bigs, I notice on closer inspection you don't have GENHODS.big loading. You should have at least 6 files loaded, and you only 5 (+1 English.big) And having an out of date file like the english.big would possibly cause a crash too, so just removing that was a step in the right direction.
  3. For one thing, Montaz, you're not using the right version of Warlords. Go to the main warlords page, click "latest version" and download everything in there, there are 7 bigs (oldships.big is optional) and 1 readme. THAT IS THE LATEST VERSION OF WARLORDS. -----DO NOT DOWNLOAD ANY FILES OUT OF THE ARCHIVES THEY ARE OUT OF DATE------ Follow the instructions in the readme from there for installation. You don't NEED an english.big and the one that you have is out of date to boot. You also don't have to delete the original HW2 big files. Matter of fact, it's probably best if you leave them alone. There are several things I see wrong in the log you posted, but they should be solved by following the above. Meddelertobi, try removing the german.big It looks like you've got the right files, that's the only one that's different. "UTIL -- filepath failure, path doesn't exists 'C:\PROGRA~1\Sierra\HOMEWO~1\data\locale\german' " It says that second line from the top in your last post. Remove german.big. Make sure everything's installed properly and in the right directories. Also it's making references to the hoth level at the end, don't put any of that in the command line or mess with the single player campaign for now. Remove any references to that you're making and try the skirmishes then.
  4. http://outerheaven.freeforums.org/index.php I don't remember if this has been mentioned here or not cause I bounce between forums so much, but this is a mod for Galaxies that puts a much larger emphasis on the warships and ground combat, intertwining the two and trying to make the GCW more immersive. Take a look. It's still in it's infancy, but someday, it's gonna be totally awesome Watch for Admiral Harvey Plunkett to launch an orbital strike on the Lars Homestead and send in stormtroopers to slaughter those pseudo-Ewok Jawas.
  5. Consider your notion seconded. The only MMO I'm aware of that doesn't suck like a black hole is Eve, and even it has a lot of the annoying aspects of the genre, just not as bad in my opinion (I actually rather like Eve, just don't play it enough to warrant the subscription). Second, if LA has any input, it's doomed (the only reason Warlords turned out half-way decent:) I don't know though, BioWare is a pretty good team. Can't think of anything they've been associated with that wasn't pretty good. Who knows, maybe we're a bunch of naysayers about to be shown up by somebody who'll do it right for once. Maybe, but not likely
  6. http://www.knightsedge.com/armor/roman-armor.htm Any of you pansy-arses live in the DFW area want a sword fight, just let me know.
  7. Anybody visit the gallery lately? EJ's got some new ships. A (I'm guessing from the file name) Mandalorian Cruiser of some kind, a new and much improved Quasar Fire Cruiser/Carrier, and some funky thing nobody is apt to recognize All look cool though.
  8. Ha! And those FOOLS thought I was some kind of lunatic buying all those canned goods and that bunker from Nazi Germany! (goes into Y2K bunker waving his traffic finger at the world)
  9. Awful quiet around here. Am I gonna have to do something drastic to get people stirred up and posting again? Alright, then... So be it. God, forgive me. I truly believe it's for the best... - - - Jar-jar Binks is cool and deserves an entire movie made around his rise to the Imperial Throne. (ducks to avoid the many broken bottles and sharp objects being thrown) GOD ALMIGHTY SAVE ME! I'VE REALLY PISSED 'EM OFF NOW! AAAHHHHHHH (one of EJ's bottles connects)
  10. I figured there was something simple I was missing on the first. I figured the second would be a biyatch. I hate being right. Well, I'll experiment and see what I can do. Thanks EJ.
  11. Alright, now I've got all the stuff to do it, but I'm not having much success with my experimentation. There are several little bugs I'd like to jury-rig a quick fix for while awaiting the next release. 1. The AI spamming resourcers when on unlimited fleet size This ones quite simple and already done. (capped the resourcers in the script) Just put it up here for the heck of it. 2. The AI spamming MSHs when playing as an Imperial Been experimenting and looking around but can't get it to work. It isn't crashing, or for that matter, doing ANYTHING differently so I'm apparently "not doing right", just not doing it wrong enough to cause problems 3. Weapon hardpoints on oldships Can I change the part "damageable" to "undamagable" (or something comparable)? I noticed the differences in the new and old ships, so do I have to change them to the new format or do I actually have to modify the HOD as well? If you hadn't guessed, I'm a tinkerer. So any Warlords files I get my hands on won't be "stock" for long. Anyway, as I get more familiar with HW2 I may be able to offer my assistance. Course, by that time you'll prob be done. This thing's gone along pretty far already.
  12. (shrugs) Stuff on Wookie and Wiki is sometimes made up (literally) I don't think Eville relies on them much except as just vague references on a sometimes basis. Course, if somebody's just messing around for the heck of it, that really doesn't matter. I never really looked at Wookie before. I'll have to explore it sometime just see what's what over there. Some other interesting Star Wars projects you might look into are: Hard Light Productions- www.hard-light.net - a Star Wars TC for FreeSpace2 SCP also OuterHeaven- outerheaven.freeforums.org/index.php - a TC for Star War Galaxies to de-crappify it (note on that last one, the lack of www is not accidental) OH is using a lot of Eville's models, albeit modified to work with the different game. HLP wanted to, but FS2 has a flaky model system, so they had to do it from scratch the way I understand it. Both are very high quality. I wanna play OH. Command my own VSD with a couple dozen lackies dying at my command... (wistful sigh) A dream coming true... I hope it gets enough support from the community to actually be playable. Can't have fleets of ships that demand a couple dozen crewers each when only ten or fifteen people will play the game. Still, if it comes to that, I'll jack with it myself and make the ships solo-able! MY OWN VSD! I'm so excited... You can tell. And can tell what one of my favorite ships is, too
  13. Have you looked at the ship index and technical commentaries, or the gallery yet? There's some awesome pictures in both
  14. They're actually not bad, especially considering they're made with paint. I never really advanced past the stick figure stage myself, when it comes to drawing. I've drawn a few pictures of BattleMechs that were decent, miscellaneous sketches of other things, done a little modeling (I made a rather nice lancer frigate one time thought about offering to XWAUP, then Eville had to make it look like crap:) Just so you know, though, when it comes to Warlords, they're strictly canon ships (meaning have to be in books, movies, comics, etc) so EJ's not likely to use your ideas.
  15. I googled for but couldn't find Outer Heaven for SWG. Could someone please state the address? I'd like to take a look. -edit nevermind. I just spotted the address above. Sorry
  16. I've been looking at the FS2 Mod for Star Wars, it's all to a very high standard of quality, at least as good as Eville here, but it doesn't appear to have been in the works for very long. They've got a fair sized crew working on it though, it looks like so progress should be fairly rapid. They're mostly concentrating on ANH-ROTJ. Don't like CW and NJO, cause it departs too much from previously established ideals. Still, as it moves along, it should make for an excellent sim that will apparently utilize more real-world physics (also faster speeds). Once it's finished, the flexibility and versatility of the editor FRED will make creation of campaigns and scenarios a snap. It's using the FS Source Code, which Volition apparently released after deciding not to continue the storyline. It's a huge graphics update that enables the engine to use many new features, and is regularly updated with new capabilities for the engine and editor both. It's funny, they don't want to continue it themselves, but they're providing a tremendous amount of support for those who do. Cool, not often the companies pay so much attention to their fanbases.
  17. As a flight sim, or even a decent game, XWA is disposable. Like most LucasArts stuff it is seriously crappified. The only neat thing about it is the option to fight team based skirmish battles, with each team being alloted points to purchase ships even larger ones, to use in the fight. Also allows you to quickly do coop games together, up to 16 players. A few mods to allow people to man the gun turret, in the Falcon etc, while another person flies. Without XWAUP it's not worth having. What really is a better alternative, I don't know if it exists, have to look, is if someone did a SW mod for Freespace2 or something like that. That was a good flight sim anyway, had a powerful and ridiculously easy to use editor with good documentation (in a couple days of tinkering I was putting together elaborate campaigns). The potential... makes me drool. I think a couple people started, but I don't believe anyone went very far. I do know their's a good looking Battlestar Galactica mod for it (seen videos on YouTube). It's kind of complicated to make models for, from what I understand, although it couldn't be any worse than HW2. Aside from the modeling, it's VERY easy to make alterations to, up to and including videos, scripted sequences, actually adding in new vessels, etc. Anyway... anything modded would likely be better than XWA. edit- YO! I found one! http://swc.hard-light.net/ Star Wars TC for Freespace 2 Source Code Project! A decent sim for star wars! AT LAST!
  18. I decompiled the BIGs for Warlords and have been poking around, it only further emphasized the amount of work involved in this thing. Much impressed, and appreciate you taking the time not only to make something like this, but to make it available for other people.
  19. Oh the problem wasn't from the ship. Using XVTED was the problem. You have to modify the executable to change the things I was messing with. Most the time it's fine, but every once in a while it screws it up and corrupts the file, you have to do a reinstall or replace the EXE one.
  20. From what I understand, that scenario is messed up anyway.
  21. Now, I mentioned in another post how I use Rebellion for the strategy aspect and Warlords to act out the battles. I am in the process of redoing Rebellion to better fulfill my requirements/preferences. When I'm finished, if anyone's interested I'll post the finished product here, or wherever y'all think would be best. Keep in mind, this thing is in NO WAY intended to play straight with Rebellion. The combat segment is basically useless. Actually, it IS useless, cause I disabled weapons on all the ships (since it's to be acted out in Warlords, anyway). So, in order to use it, you need Rebellion and Warlords both, as well as someone to play with you can trust not to cheat. I always play with my brother, neither of us are cheaters, and since we use a LAN and are only a few feet apart, any attempt at cheating is... uh... immeadiately avenged. To say the least. Heh, the fights OVER the game are almost as fun as the fights IN the game Anyway, details. Since space is so limited on planets, I have drastically reduced the cost and maintainence of the ships, to allow much larger fleets. Also, facilities have been altered, rather than needing 10 or 12 to churn ships out sometime today, a single yard can build a destroyer in about 100 turns. Basically, you'll only need two or three, and adv yards are twice that. Same for the other construction yards. They are more time consuming to build and have a higher maintainence to discourage massive numbers of them and spamming ships out by the droves. Defense facilities have been redone and include- ODG- Orbital Defense Grid Which consists of 4 Heavy Launchers, 8 Missile Launchers, and 16 Perimeter Guns. A single "set" of these can drive off a small group of frigates or a couple of larger ships. OICA- Orbital Ion Cannon Array 3 Ion Cannons. I guess this can disable a small group of frigates or a couple larger ships. I'm testing things as I go for balancing and to make sure it is capable of what I'm aiming for, so some things may get adjusted. Golan Defense Rings- Three types, one for each class of station. Each consists of a "ring" of three stations. Defense Shield- Basically unchanged, except for working better. All the defenses costs are appropriate to their "units", so there aren't (in theory) going to be dozens of Golans around every other planet, but they consist of mulitple units so as to be worth the slot they're occupying on the planet. Basic principle I'm applying to defenses are that they cost less to maintain than an equivalent fleet, but take a bit to build and of course are immobile. Planets with defenses can be blockaded, but not attacked without dealing with the defending stations. A lot of aspects right now are up to the people involved, but I'm working on a system to "enforce" the rules. Shiplist- I was able to utilize all thirty slots without duplication, since I discovered you can check one ship for both sides. Rebellion, now with only ONE dreadnaught! Hurray! Research has been changed. Since this game takes place immeadiately after Yavin, everything ANH and older is already available. Only a few ships actually need to be researched for each side. And yes the SSD is uber, it is also ten times the cost of a single destroyer, both to build and maintain. I have tested in HW, and with a decent sized fleet it CAN be taken down, just gonna take some losses on the way. And if it's supported... sorry, dude, you're dead. But then, that's the way it SHOULD BE!!!!! Still, don't expect to see but one or two in the game. Anymore than that and he won't be defending the rest of his worlds, in which case you can easily knee cap him for his arrogance. Remember Tarkin? Empire- Executor Titan (changed from Praetor cause it is more appropriate for the time) Allegiance (is actually too late period, but don't have another mid-range ship to choose from) Imperator Imperator II Victory Victory II Immobilizer KDY Carrier Star Galleon Strike Carrack Nebulon B2 Lancer MSH Rebels- MC-85 Dauntless MC-80 Assault Frigate Liberator MC-60 (too late period but don't have another similiar sized ship available, but it could also just be considered a small Mon Cal) MC-40 Quasar Fire Carrier CC-9600 Neutron Star Cruiser Bulk Transport Both- Nebulon B Dreadnaught Corvette Gunship Yes, the empire does have more ships. But that's cause the empire DOES have more ships ANH. And it's not so bad, when you look at Mon Cal ships, you've got two or three variants of each one to choose from. Note: this doesn't include Mon Remondas, Mediators and other POST-ROTJ ships. Later, I'll try to make a custom build list for Warlords for this thing, so the option to cheat won't even be there. More of that ideas to enforce (or at least penalize) violations. Fighters are unchanged (except for stats) although the Defender has been replaced with the Avenger cause it was WAY more common. I'm gonna jack with the ground troops later. Pics still need to be cleaned up, I just let it auto the smaller pics and they aren't so hot, so I'm gonna do some custom ones later. BTW, I don't remember you objecting to anything like this before, but the pictures I'm using (surprise) are coming from Warlords screenshots. You don't mind do you, EJ? Oh, the galaxy map has been replaced with a dark blue tactical grid. It's not particularly pretty, but it seems more reasonable than the galaxy. It's supposed to be the bridge of your flagship (so you're not outside the galaxy looking in) and I don't see most admirals directing with THAT map, the grid is more reasonable I think. Again, if you don't have anybody to play with that you can trust not to be a jackass or a whiner, you're probably not gonna be the least bit interested in this.
  22. hmmmm, interesting. I shall look into this. Thanks shad. edit- I just noticed I'm a bullet sponge now. Hurray! Great success.
  23. Yeah the fleets aren't a problem, just give unlimited resources and buy the stuff in your fleet and away you go, we got a system for that. In rebellion characters are on specific ships though, so it'd be convenient to have a simple editor to throw the ships out there and name'em, or at least the "key" ships, to cut down on confusion after the battle. Anyway, no biggie, I was just wondering if you (EJ) had stumbled across. Kudos.
  24. If I start HW and try to create a game with an Imp cpu, it crashes everytime, but if I start one AS an Imp and then start one with a Imp cpu, it works fine. You said it crashes even when YOU play as one? Might've got a messed up a file. At the end of the file it says - "Starting Level: data:LevelData\Multiplayer\duel\ISD-PROVIDENCE.LEVEL " You're trying to do a duel or scenario? Just try playing a regular game mode.
  25. Well, Rebellion sucks like a black hole. I didn't figure any amount of modding could salvage that steaming pile of crap LucasArts overcharged us for. But, I will take a look at it since you suggested it. If you were associated with it I'm sure it can't be too bad -edit (a few minutes later) yeaaaah. No offense, EJ, but uh... Rebellion just sucks. No way around it. My method much better.
