  1. Well, I fiddled around and got my starting death star. I put the maintainance to 1 so they don't scrap it, but jacked up the cost to build it. I want to try the "traitor" program someone mentioned earlier in the thread, but I don't know where to find it.
  2. Ok, please excuse the non-coder here. I downloaded a hex editor to add the code that you suggested to that file: 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 88 00 00 18 The problem is, where should I add it? The hex editor won't let me add anything to the end of the file: 01 00 00 00 02 00 00 00 14 00 00 00 53 65 65 64 46 61 6D 69 6C 79 54 61 62 6C 65 45 6E 74 72 79 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 0A 00 00 00 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 85 00 00 14 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 00 00 1C 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 00 00 1C 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 00 00 1C 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 00 00 1C 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 00 00 1C 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 05 00 00 1C 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 06 00 00 10 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 06 00 00 10 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 06 00 00 10 I can only edit existing portions of the above hex values. Should I just try a new editor, or do I have to do something more involved than a cut and paste?
  3. Well, it's probably for 2 reasons. One, his leadership is so high already, making him a Jedi would really throw off game balance. Two, the books clearly establish that he has no jedi powers at all. Personally, I find it much stranger that Chewie has jedi probability.
  4. - Yes. The only difference is that the computer was shut off between attempts. -Yes. I run it once a week. -No. -Is Windows ever stable?
  5. The problem is that on my system, some days it works, and some days it doesn't work. (BTW, I just tried it again, and it worked). On days that it doesn't work, I just get the standard error message (can't find the capships.dat file). One would think it was just my computer being screwy, but I've never come across any other executable that randomly decided when it would work and when it wouldn't. Maybe it is some subtle interplay between some eccentricity in the program and some eccentricity on my computer. It probably isn't worth looking into, as it will propbably be impossible to lock down. Is there anything you would like me to do on days it doesn't work to help you assess the problem if you want to pursue it?
  6. Thanks for the input!
  7. I've found that using rebed to give the Empire 6 advanced shipyards at the start of the game is enough for them to build up an impressive fleet fairly quickly, or at least it seems so. I haven't been forced into a confrontation yet, so I don't know if I gave them too huge of an advantage. This solution might be an easier way to go instead of hacking hexidecimal code, although that starting Death Star would be nice. I'll give the hack a try and see if it works, when I have a chance.
  8. So I got all my new characters 90% the way I want them (some bmps need to be touched up) and all of a sudden, I give them rank and their old name leaks through. I remember someone saying they found how to hack that. Any pointers? Or do I just look through all the files with the Resource Hacker until I find one that says the character names in the midst of a lot of gibberish code? (I found the planet encyclopedia entries like that. I had to make Alderaan. Is Alderaan in the same sector as Ord Mantel and Firro? I can't actually find anyplace that lists Alderaan's sector, except some history that said some character from Alderaan was off surveying a nearby system that happens to be in the same sector as Ord Matel. So I'm operating off of an assumption).
  9. Well, I'm not crazy because it just stopped working again! I didn't change any of the files or anything (why would I, it was working!) Something is definately not right. I guess my golan III will just move very slow. It could just be my computer, or there could be lots of other people out there that never got the guts to ask because they just assumed they were idiots and did something wrong (and then gave up). If it is just my computer, then there is no sense in losing any sleep over it. I'll just make do without it.
  10. Well, I do agree with that assessment, but I have also seen computers do some really strange things in my day that defy all explanation. Perhaps all my computer needed was to be restarted, and whatever issue it was having was sorted out (maybe even though I changed the ini file, it was trying to access a memory cached copy of an older version instead of the new file, etc.) With Windows, you generally can't keep it on for more than 72 hours before things go squirrely, and I do think I had it on for several days when I tried to use the prog the first time. On another note, nothing seems to happen when I try to load the lower pixel count Home One cruiser, while the Eclipse and the Golan III have loaded just fine....
  11. Ok, this is really bizzarre, but I swear on the Force that it didn't work the last two days, and now, for no reason at all, it suddenly is! I didn't change a thing! You must have done a Jedi Mind Trick. My apologies for calling the help file useless, but in this case, since it didn't address the issue of when you follow the directions exactly and it didn't work, I didn't find it helpful. I guess the solution then is to let it sit a few days and try again....
  12. I'm trying to use the battlestations utility to put the golan III into my game, but no matter what I do, it tells me that it can't find the capships.dat file. I put the battlestations files into a folder in my main rebellion folder (like the instructions said), but it still won't work. Altering the battlestations.ini file also has no effect. Has anyone used this utility and can give me some pointers on how to get it to find the right file? PS (the example in the help file that comes with it is pretty much useless).
  13. Yea, I just put in the eclipse star destroyer, which is about 3-4 times bigger than an ISD, and all the enemy fighters go inside it. I've also noticed that it gets way too close to captial ships when it's on standoff orders, so ship size, like you said, is probably hard coded irregardless of actual model size.
  14. Actually, now that I think of it, I'm wondering if I can "trick" the game into giving a Death Star, by moving the death star up to a slot occupied by a "starting" ship. Then again, there is the problem in that I don't know how to move the slot. Nuts
  15. This website is labarynthine. I found the download area, but can't actually find any descriptions of the changes you made in each version. Basicly, what I would be overjoyed to do would be to give the Empire a Death Star, the resources to support it, place Alliance HQ at Yavin, and erase Yavin as a known rebel hideout from the Empire's data. I don't think I've ever played as the alliance and seen the Empire build one, because it is simply too easy to win as the alliance (how to kill a SD: Swarm with Y-wings), even at the hardest difficulty. I thought giving the Empire their pre-Yavin edge would make playing the rebels interesting.
  16. Hi. I've been playing Rebellion for years now, but have become frustrated with the limitations of RebEd. Specificly, I want to construct a pre-Yavin scenario, but I need to be able to give the Empire a Death Star and vastly increase it's starting resources (and hide Yavin from the Empire). If this has been discussed elsewhere, please forgive me, but how do you do it? I've seen some mention of a resource hacker, which I downloaded, but if anyone has done anything like this and could give me some pointers, I would appreciate it. It would be cool to increase the number of characters too, but I don't know if that's possible.
