Everything is relative anyway. What is "far too much" for you might just be "simplistic" to me. And vise versa. And considering Mr. Lucas didn't imply neither via movies' scripts or interviews that Anakin is indeed Vader without any alter-ego whatsoever, all we can do is speculate, as usually simple things are prefered over complex ones.
-
That was obviously an expression in the given context. Maybe you were trying to be sarcastic. If you tried to bring some humor then you failed at least to my eyes. Agreed. Completely agree. See ? We share common opinions (and facts) ! It is not complcated for me. If it is for you, then what can I possibly do or say about that ? Sorry ? You make this way to simplistic (yeah yeah you can give me the same answer I gave you for your "too complicated" comment), and that's not just in my opinion. According to StarWars.com's Databank (which you can as well may not consider as official or cannon to your eyes), Darth Vader began life as Anakin Skywalker. Right there, it implies two different personalites, to say the least. "His wife, Padmé Amidala, followed Anakin to Mustafar, to plead for him to return from the dark side." (from the Databank's information regarding Darth Vader). Indeed. If we follow your ... facts, or should I say theory, that Anakin is Vader (and vise versa), then explain me why Anakin (since Vader is Anakin, so Padmé must have talked to both of them, or actually only one, the original Anakin, going by your sayings) completely ignored his loved one's plea to return from the Dark Side (which completely consumes your original personalities and morals), and even Force Choke'd her without expressing any sort of remorse whatsoever ? It wasn't Vader that killed Padmé then ? I do believe it was. But if you still don't, then, what can I say more, nothing I fear. There is a slipt personality. But to the point that saying one is "awake" while the other is "asleep" is simply viewing the subject in a simplistic way, as I believe. It's very subtle, and at the same time so obvious. That's exactly why Darth Vader (or ... Anakin, according to you) said himself to Luke that Anakin Skywalker (the very name itself) "means nothing to me" (said by Vader in Return of the Jedi when Luke surrenders himself to him after meeting with the Ewoks). If Darth Vader said "means nothing to me", then who's "me" in there ? And if I recall correctly, Luke answers him "you've only forgotten". Then to that answer, Vader responds "It is too late for me". So, politically speaking, he ... "agreed" to the theory of the forgotten "Anakin being/personality/mind", but recognizes himself as another "person", another being, although sharing the same body. One could even say that the Dark Side of the Force gives an impression of a major depression. As I said, it may come down to a matter of opinions ... but at least according to what can be considered "cannon proof", you'd be right, but wrong at the same time. And the bottom line here is that perhaps none of us can be entirely and absolutely 100% right. Oh, and that's probably why you said he's a wuss ? Go figure ... Who's talking about religion ? Talking about a person having potentially two personalities makes that not only a subject of "religion", but "new age" as well ? Man you gotta have to tell me what are "new age" subjects combined with religion aspects. But don't you think it wouldn't be part of this thread's main subject anyway ? I think we should stop right there with this. And as far as "part of Star Wars lore anywhere" goes, it does at StarWars.com, and the movies. And despite all what you think about Vader being "bad ass", it makes him a wuss at least in Return of the Jedi still ? Oh well I guess we all have our own definitions of someone being "bad ass" and being a "wuss". Well, what you think about George Lucas is also a matter of personal opinions. If you think he's a cash cow, then perhaps that's good for you, who knows really. That's what I did.

Wow ... It actually looks like the scale from the movies. Very nice to look at, but my question is ... is it even playable ? Imagine three or four of those in the same area.

As Cain said, version 9.6.2 is for the full version. And I believe version 7.0 will be out in a matter of weeks, perhaps a few days.

Would extracting the .MEG files increase in-game performance ?
Zenoth replied to Zenoth's topic in EAW Mods General Workshop
No indeed it doesn't work for all the games out there. But Doom 3 is one of the few exceptions, but as I said, it doesn't help everytime. It works under specific in-game conditions. So of course, if it works, the improvements are minimal in terms of quantity, but it is noticeable, well at least according to what I've read on the subject. That's why I was just curious if EaW could be affected by that, or not, or barely. -
It's sort of off-topic, but I presume it has the potential to become a modification in the future if proven that it works. I remember when Doom 3 was released, during its first weeks on the public scene, many users tried to modify it, and a group of people came with a very simple idea, but yet never done before for that game, to increase overall in-game performance by "helping" the CPU to do less extracting-processes, and focus more on actually processing the A.I and other things not being taken care of by the Graphics Processing Unit. I'm talking here about the Data files. I believe they were all compressed in .RAR formats, and they all contained the necessary files to run the game. Or one could simply have said that the whole game was contained within .RAR files. So, to improve performance to some noticeable extent, what you had to do, was simply to extract all the files, from all the compressed Data ones, into specific folders, some of them non-existent upon a usual game installation. Exactly like the XML folder for Empire at War. By doing so, the CPU did not have to un-compress Data during game-play, and it increased the performance, perhaps not a lot, but it was noticeable in some situations. The method worked. But there was a down side to that. Someone who extracted the Data files and got rid of the original .RAR files, could not play Online, since the majority of users Online had the original files and they were not compatible with each others (their "versions" in other words). But at least, Offline, for the story mode, it helped many players, especially those without high-end processors. So, now that I have introduced the basic idea ... In Star Wars: Empire at War, the necessary files are contained in a compressed file type, the .MEG files. Those files contain all the needed XML files for the game. Or simply said, just like Doom 3, the game itself, the whole Data, is compressed. So, I was wondering ... what if somebody extracts all the XML files contained in a compressed file, to a specific new folder (such as the XML folder) ... ? Would it increase performance just like in Doom 3 ? I'm willing to try it of course, since the procedure itself it quite simple (finding the MEG files and extracting their contents to the XML folder and voila !), unless I'm wrong or I am missing something important. Just curious ... What do you guys think about this ?

Re: EAW: Star Wars Realism v2.0 (Space Combat)

MistenTH, thanks for the new changes ! I'd like to know if you're planning to release a new version containing the changes soon, or perhaps you did already ? -
Reading this post hurts the Star Wars fan inside me. First of all, Darth Vader IS NOT A JEDI ... Follow my lips: Sssssiiiiith. Yes, Darth Vader was a SITH alter-ego to Anakin Skywalker. They were physically in the same body, yes, but Darth Vader is another "mind", another person to say the least. Even the "Dark Side" Anakin was not doing things the same way Vader did. Darth Vader doesn't use full front attacks and raw power. He uses intimidation and brings fear in his ranks and the whole Empire. You HAD to respect Vader and NEVER disappoint him, or you had some nice Force Choke up your sorry self upon giving a report of your failure to him. Vader followed the Emperor's will without questioning, and Vader was also a great commander. With all his powers he could have probably landed alone on Hoth and taken the whole Rebel base by himself. But no, the Galactic Empire invades planets, create orbital blockades and use raw military power and great numbers to create fear amongst the known Galaxy, and whoever wants to oppose them will get the challenge of their life. Vader was NOT a wuss in Return of the Jedi. He followed orders from the Emperor. I mean ... Jesus ... the Old Trilogy's lore is around since 1977 and up to nowdays there is still people around that THINK they know all about it. And sorry about my English I know it's not the best out there, I'm not English myself. I'm just trying to point out some Star Wars lore facts.

I'd like to know that as well. Is it the Population Value ? In the Factions .XML ?

Re: EAW: Star Wars Realism v2.0 (Space Combat)
Zenoth replied to MistenTH's topic in EAW Mods General Workshop
Great modification. As of now I tried the Rebels in a Skirmish game. I got suggestions for them: 1) Repair Tender Increase the shield regeneration slightly or reduce its price. That ship is efficient, but, in my humble opinion, a bit too fragile, especially considering its role. If I would send a medic on a battlefield, maybe I wouldn't equip him with heavy weapons indeed, but I'd make sure his suit/armor would at least give him the same or better protection than his fellow privates (I.E Corellian Corvettes). 2) Interdictor Cruiser Why giving a Galactic Empire-owned ship to the Rebels ? Perhaps for pure game-play fun it seems cool, but according to the lore, as far as I know, the only known stolen Empire ship the Rebels had was that famous Shuttle they exploited for the Battle of Endor. Well, maybe I missed something especially in the books, since I haven't read them (Episode IV to VI). Personally, I can live with that. Since indeed the ship's functions are efficient, and would be a nice addition to the Rebel fleets, BUT ... maybe changing the ship's description would give its actual presence in the Rebels ranks a better explanation. For example, you could (if you can) tell us that it was a recently stolen Empire ship/technology being tested by the Rebs. You know ... just make a very short story behind its origins within their ship variants. 3) Corellian Torpedo Boat Why does it cost 1701 ? Maybe originally intended to price it at 1700, but you made a little mistake. Also, I suggest reducing the Toperdo reload time to 15 seconds and increasing its price to ... say ... 1800/1850, since I find that ship being quite good, but should perhaps be more expensive to get. On the other hand, it should take just a bit less time to reload its ammunition. And finally, I personally believe that the overall flow of resources in Skirmishes now is maybe too slow. There's some action as usual, but it now tends to kick in a bit late in game. Of course, it may well depend on the maps themselves (the actual number of resource asteroids for example), but overall I feel like the "real" action (higher quality ships and capital ships) starts at late Tier 3/early Tier 4 (I.E Space Sation upgraded by the A.I at late level 3 or early on at level 4, and I say from the A.I since it seems to upgrade at pretty much the same time, while a human can struggle at level 2 all the time). Alright, that's it for now. These are suggestions only. I can live with your great MOD without any of them, but I myself would like to see such changes (I would do them myself if I could). EDIT: I've just tried a game with the Empire. I noticed you included the Rebel A-Wing. Well, I guess I can suggest the same thing I did for the Interdictor ship in the Rebs fleet. Is there some sort of background story you haven't told us about your MOD ? A sudden surge of technology-stealing between both factions. Hehe. -
Hi Cain, I see you are the creator of the Warlord Mod. Can you tell me if your mod (as of version 6.9.2) is compatible with the Skirmish mode ? I am asking because I tried it last night after downloading and installing it properly, and upon starting I had no units to chose from at all. The spaces where units are shown you know, well, completely empty. I'll be back home in a few moments and I'll simply try to re-install, just in case. But I wanted to be sure, is it actually compatible in the first place ? Thanks for your time, and thanks for creating modification(s) for this great game !

Stargate Command: Mod for Empire at War
Zenoth replied to TSKNF's topic in EAW Hosted Community Projects
Don't forget Heru-ur ! He is the son of Ra and Hathor after all, and inherited much of his father's Empire after his death in the movie. And be sure to add the Goa'uld Home World, P3X-888. -
Ok but I noticed that version 6.0 contains a lot more files. Am I going to miss anything from 6.0 if I only install 6.9.2 ? Files like the "Ai" folder, and many .XML files, for example. Sorry ... it was my last question. I'll go install 6.9.2 now. But please answer, I'd like to know for sure. EDIT: Nerver mind, I tried it with 6.0 files and it crashed. So, only 6.9.2 indeed. Thanks again.
-
Ok. But is version 6.9.2 an update to 6.0 ? In other words do I need to install 6.0 before 6.9.2 so it works properly ? Just want to make sure, to avoid reporting useless issues because I missed something important during the installation process.

Hi all. I've been reading the forums since only a few minutes, and just discovered the Warlord Mod. I got a question about it ... Is it compatible with the final game ? I'm asking, because all the links I have seen say "Warlord Mod Demo", or similar titles all with "Demo" in them. If there is a version compatible with the final/Gold game, then which version do I need to get ? And where is the appropriate download link ? I'm sorry if I missed something obvious, but I'm just a bit mixed-up right now. Thanks for your time, and help.
