I was wondering what everyone expected from EaW or what was their dream game star wars RTS was. Not that this won't be a kick ass game but I'm wondering what is everyone expectations for it and so forth. This shouldn't be a place people list their gribes about whats in the game or whats not in the game more of how people first imagined the game, and what they predict what the final game may play like. This might be fun because after the game comes out we can look back and see who was right and wrong. Delphi doesn't get to make predictions though j/k If you care, Mein would be: Ok first for Space, A planet has multiple landing points for the rebels and only One for the empire, Landing points would be there for transports to land. This would force the empire to defend large areas around a planet to prevent rebels from landing but allow the rebels to concentrate their forces defending only one. Also in space there will be hyperspace points for fleets to come and go to the planet, so if you want to escape to one specific planet you have to get your fleet to one specific point and jump, however if you are just trying to save your fleet you can just send them to multiple points however your fleet will be scattered around neighboring planets. Now going back to the landing points on a planet those will be important because you'll have to move your transports there to land your troops on the planet. I would like this because it adds a layer of strategy because now you can either decide to fight a space battle or try and slide your transports in to break a blockade. For the ground battles I'd keep them the same mostly but have a "Landing pad" at the bases where you can load troops, materials (credits), buildings (Have some basic buildings be redeployable), ect... to redeploy on another planet if you want to try and retreat. Next you have to hold off the enemy long enough to allow everything escape. To keep people from instantly escaping there will be a timer on it that only one transport can leave at a time so you have to try and hold off the enemy while you evacuate. After you evacuate you'll have to try and avoid the enemy fleet in orbit of the planet while you get your transports to hyperspace points. But if you had say an Ion Cannon on the planet during the ground battle maybe you'll see it shooting into space. This would be cosmetic simulating the fact that the evacuation is happening simultaneously in space and on ground. In space I would have the Ion cannon on a timer firing at the enemy ships as you try to get your transports to different hyperspace points. The timer would be how long the Ion cannon was able to fire into space during the ground battle, the longer it survives on the ground, the longer it can shoot into space during the evacuation. Also for the evacuation you won't start with all your transports in space at the beginning they will spawn over time and at random points around the planet forcing the enemy to decide to whether to split their fleet and try to take down as many transports as possible or to keep it together and just clear out what they can get. The thing is that the Ion Cannons will shoot anything near the transports so if you split your fleet there’s a good chance that the smaller groups could become completely disabled. After a few rounds against the Ion cannon. I guese because Episode 5 is my favorite movie of the franchise I always envisioned a Star Wars RTS to be like the battle of Hoth

That’s my fear that when the games gonna come it won’t be worth building small ships if you can't mass them to attack a fleet of lets say star destroyers. Unless the game is balanced so the cost of the smaller ships offset the fact there is a pop limit the game is going to devolve into a race for only a star destroyer fleet or mon cals. If a fleet of corvettes can only take out one star destroyer in a fleet of star destroyers then the cost of a fleet of corvettes are going to need to be less that one star destroyer to make it cost effective to throw it at the Imperial navy. (I don't know the cost or anything I'm using this as a hypothetical situation and I know I am over simplifying because you shouldn't have a fleet of corvettes go one on one with a fleet of star destroyers really it should be a fleet of mixed small ships.) A pop cap favors more powerful ships and that really takes out the "realism" in a star wars universe. You won't get a feeling of overwhelming imperial power which force the rebels to decide whether or not to stay and sacrifice low cost ships to destroy an expensive imperial ship i.e. attack it with a large number of star fighters. And the limit on rebel star fighters puts the rebels in a vice because you can't amass a fleet of star fighters to raid system defenses throwing away extremely low cost things just to knock out 1 or 2 more expensive ships.. My hope for this game was that we get a ground and space balance that reversed i.e. the Empire has a powerful navy but with the a lot of really over priced quality units while the rebels have a lot of cheap disposable units in space but can be used in a mass attack. I.e. being able to assemble a mass of fighter squadrons which can take out a star destroyer like a couple squadrons of x-wings escorting several squadrons of Y-wings, while on the ground it is reversed that the empire has a lot of cheap disposable unites and the rebels have the quality expensive units so the Empire has to throw wave upon wave of troops to take a rebel base. I wanted this game to feel like the battle for battles to feel like on Hoth. The empire comes out with this massive fleet of star destroyers the rebels can’t match on a ship to ship basis but they manage to take out a couple, and then on the ground just wave upon wave of walkers and Imperial ground units decent on the rebel base and the rebels need to hold the defensive line as long as possible funneling units to fill the gap, that’s why I was exited to hear about the Rebel artillery because that was perfect for how I wanted the game to feel. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying I’m not excited for the game I’m just basically saying when I first herd of this game this is what this game it was what I envisioned that the perfect star wars RTS would be and now that I know more I still sounds helluvalotta fun its just not the perfect game I envisioned but then again that just my perfect game everyone has their own. I and I know no one gonna read a long rant but oh well I’m not gonna make 20 posts like some people do.

The other problem with a population cap the games become a race to only build the best weapons. For the empire would there be any reason not to have a fleet with 20 Star Destroyers? By putting such a low pop cap you marginalize the smaller ships and weaker units. Lets look at this scenario in a ground battle without a pop cap you may have recon units, units to raid an enemy force, or throw away units to try and delay and advance through your main line while your artillery destroys the enemy. Now what happens is that it forces you to sit back at your base and wait for the enemy to attack so all your turrets and base defenses come to play. It takes all defensive strategy out of the game. Just build a line with your best units behind your base walls so when the enemy breaches you sit back and delay them while your artillery kills them. Such small pop caps take away the strategy elements. There is no longer any reason to build smaller weaker units. I've been excited about this game until I herd about this pop cap, if the cap is really so low I actually may not buy this game. Oh and BTW for the people talking about owning a 2 year old computer being excited about this game, what about the people spending money to build an uber powerful PC with 2 Nivda 256mb Nvida 6800's (SLI) and 4 gigs of RAM who could play the massive game we've all dreamed about, this game will be a huge disappointment because you know it could and should of been better. Why can't they just make an optional pop cap for lower end PCs?

If the CIS won the war Palapatine would of delceared himself emperor with Dooku and Greviece as his right hand men. There would of been a rebellion led by Jedi because in all likelyhood the clones would not of been able to turn on the Jedi in fact they probaly would of been slaughtered. And probaly there would of been a stronger rebellion.

Maybe it becomes one real big squadren.

Yea I'm sorry I get that a lot and its because a lot of time I just don't have the time to check what I write, and 2 whenever I see it in a forum it just bugs me because I've seen people in an argument just say well at least I know how to spell and the topic devolves into an English debate. Also it bugs me too because a lot of people who read and post in English langue forums speak English as a second or third langue and some times people can be insensitive to that.

Yea and you know there’s also an edit button and private messages. If you have a problem with what I wrote you could of PMed me and asked me politely to edit my message instead of being a jerk and trying to make me look like a fool. It’s just as annoying when someone makes a post saying check your spelling as it is when someone makes a poorly written post(which I am constantly guilty of). Heck just PM them about it. All your doing is flooding the boards and pissing people off. Now that I edited my message will you delete your posts now that your post is moot? Thanks for welcomeing me to the fourms. I know that happened (blood boiling) to a Russian crew returning from one of the first Russian Space stations. There was a crack in the heat shield and it made a pinhole leak in the spacecraft on reentry and all the air was sucked out in the upper atmosphere when they found the spacecraft the comonaughts were dead but everything else looked fine. When they examined the body all they found was that their blood was gone. From piecing together info the figured out that because of the leak the pressure dropped to such an extent where their blood actually boiled. Other things in space will be that your Ears will explode, (because they are pressure sensitive). Your Lungs will collapse, and not to mention the effects of Radiation will have. If you are in direct Sunlight you'll fry if there is no son you'll freeze.

That’s just a scifi fallacy. Without any air pressure the nitrogen in your blood becomes a gas and your blood boils. You probably wouldn't survive more than a second in a vacuum.

Yavin IV, why wait to go around the planet just blow it up u'd probaly do enough damage to the moons to get that rebel base. Maybe the superlaser isn't powerful enough to destroy a gas giant but come on they could atleast try, maybe the energy from the superlaser would have some unexpected effect like turning it into a star so instead of vaporizing the rebels you insinerate them.
