Infinite_Xero replied to Cain's topic in EAW General Discussion
All this is a pathetic attempt to balance a game where the forces involved are not equal in any way and should never be The population limits, the equal troop and ship numbers, the selective use of the timeline. i'm concerned This seems to be turning into SWGB all over again nothing but unit - counter unit garbage, in 3D damn, i hope i'm wrong... -
theres a new poll tpoic right there who gives a rats ass abou the Broadside? i know i don't.... Really, they should take the dumb broadside out and give the venator its stats, its not like they are going by the canon anyway.
-
Yep there should be an option that says, roughly: Yes there damn well should be! And i'm disgusted by LucasArts and their money grabbing ways, pulling completed stuff from a nearly completed game just so they can make expansion packs to screw us out of more money. (its gonna happen, i sense a disturbance in the Force)

Venator - To be or not to be ?! (*in)
Infinite_Xero replied to Bryant_pff's topic in EAW General Discussion
Puzzling, the two venators are facing each other, and it looks like the patrol craft are firing on the one to the right. but it might be firing on the patrol craft either way its confusing... since PG are clearly keeping secrets, maybe the rebels can comandeer ships? or maybe the right hand Venator is just retreating back to the safety of that formation from a fight its group lost? and the laser bolts are just look like they are going to (or from) the venator because of the camera angle No matter what, if that is an up to date version of EAW they had, then the Venator would appear to be in. (hopefully it's been redesigned as a fleet carrier and not just another warship) -
Exactly! that what i was hoping for! (in a way, i'm more than capable of keeping a reserve without the need for pop caps on battles, but this is good enough, and solves performance issues) the battles won't be over in 30 seconds, these will be real struggles like the re-enforcement points on the ground battles, this will greatly enhance the length of the fights and the first mod out will be one reducing the amount of pop points cap ships use, betcha
-
Thats exactly what i wanted to hear about the pop caps thx alot Delphi and TIEs cost no pop you've made my day Delphi Bring on the swarms! hope the party was good take it easy all

hehe, she might not be that useful...

I'm not going to touch the story campaign, missions in this type of RTS are usually an afterthought chucked in becuase the publisher thought there wasn't enough direction. and as a result are crap Supreme commander of the Imperial forces, you can order Darth freakin Vader around on the battlefield and you have to do menial tasks that will ultimately just get in the way of your plans to conquer everything (happens in Rome: Total War to me when ever i play a Roman faction, damn Senate) Leaving large strategic planning and overarching goals to current AI is the pinnacle of stupidity... blockade this port, sure its on the otherside of the known world and of NO strategic value to anybody but some worthless ally, but you still gotta do it, the Senate and People of Rome demand it Now if the missions turn out to be more involved than RTWs (as in more than just a waste of time and resources) then sure, i MAY look at them... maybe... regarding missions and grand strategy... its my way or the highway and who needs diplomacy in 1v1 MP? seriously? i'll be too busy taunting whoever i'm playing against with "rebel scum" and such i'm talking about the SP campaign, with no story, (you know, the good part of the SP) its been mentioned in something or other, and interview maybe, i can't remember... In that campaign (the free form one) i want to know, can i strong arm a planet into joining me with "join us, or die" its a big thing for me if not, then is MP all the way. Hey, if you look at it, if petro screw the AI up (its possible, BFME is proof, even in the age of FEAR, it can happen) atleast we have the MP were we can actually play a campaign against a real person
-
Well, we already have that option, for what else do you think the Death Star was created for.lol To destroy planets and to spread fear and project the power of the Empire We don't even know if it can affect a planet just by being there hell, we don't even know if it can actually carry fighters, soldiers and vehicles but it can be destroyed by a single, lucky fighter I think the Death Star is a waste of time and resources that could be much better spent on more ships and troops. But thats just me
-
Uh, invade it? But for the Rebels, that just won't be an option, they'll need all their forces to combat the sheer numbers of the Empire. Not to mention, they are meant to be the "good guys" If there isn't diplomacy then EAW is just continuing its journey down the path of becoming a shell of a good game made horrible purely so lucasarts can get some more money fast. And the Rebels and Imperials don't negotiate, wtf would they talk about? "You are tyrants and must fall!" "You are terrorists and must be brought to justice" c'mon, its between the Rebals or Imperails and a neutral planet for example: Rebels to Wookies "Rise up against the Empire and we'll come and fight with you!" Imperials to Bothans: "Join us, or die." See what i'm getting at here there are more ways to take over a civilisation than war: threat of war, sabotage, bloackades, strong arming, bribery, protection scams, the promise of liberation, military aid, economic aid Since your faction can have a standing with the natives and governments of the planets, there must be a way it affects gameplay If the Death Star was looming overhead and you knew what it can do, and the Empire came down and offered you the "Join us, or die." deal, your opinion of the Empire would have bearing on the choice to join them, or to die. i really hope that i can actually offer some planet "Join me, or die." *crosses fingers for diplomacy*

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines POS when Troika released it, patched it twice and it was no better Unofficial patches fixed everything the official ones did, week before the official ones came out too. Troika went under, and Activision didn't wanna touch it the fans picked up were the companties left off, and VtM: Bloodlines has never been better. Granted, most of the work does was to optomise a really shockingly bad version of the Source engine. But the game was very poorly received, and sold very few copies (because word of the bad stuff, gets around faster than the good) but the fans made it playable, so the superb story, action, NPC interaction and everything that makes an RPG (especially Bloodlines) could be used by the player. EAW better be modable, sooner rather than later I'm paying for classic Star Wars, the RTS i (and many others) have been waiting for. I want it all, from epIV to VI, and if only mods can provide that right away, then mods i shall have! If Petroglyph get the go-ahead from LA to make expansions packs to add what the mods have already provived, i'll weigh the two, and who ever does the better job, gets my support. Truth be told, the mods are free, and have a serious advantage the only way an official expansion could compete, is if it blows the mods totally out of the water and in to orbit. So do your jobs and do them well Petroglyph, and money ye shall have (Or rather, LucasArts will steal all your money... publishers SUCK!) /rant thank you for your time

Thanks alot Delphi! you posts are always the best source of information Replay feature: WOOOHOOO! Modability: sweet! Special Features: cool, but what about diplomacy? can we bribe, strongarm or talk our way into control of a planet? AT-AT and ISD spawning units: excellent here come the swarms Base building: sounds interesting and well thought out, no ultra planets Repairs: bacta a repair stations, a very good thing R2D2 fixing rebel tanks, not so good for me but very cool This should be more than enough for my EAW fix for today, but i need a demo!

They enjoy taunting us you sick b@stards! this is a good sign and a gut wrenching one at the same time .... damn it! i want to try this game out!

the GeForce 6600GT 128mb or 256mb are the best bang for your buck cards, with the release of the new 512 cards the prices should be dropping off a bit more too. As a 6600GT owner, i can say i am extremely happy with its performance, never had any problems, can run everything out today in High (some memory related things on medium, i've only got the 128mb) If you are gonna upgrade for EAW, a geforce 6 would be the way to go, all the DX9 support with pixel and vertex shaders 2.0+ As for fighters on a planet, of bloody course you should be able to keep alot there! what if the battle of britain had been fought using carrier based planes only? when you have hundreds of square kilometers to make airfeilds. Fighters on standby on the surface should be a seperate unit limit for example: 20 squads/platoons/wings on: on Planet: Ground - 20 Air/Space 20 Orbit: capital ships (with fighters) 20 stations (with fighters) 20 that make sense to anybody else? Or is there no limit to the number of ships you can have in orbit or to the number of troops you can have on the ground?

Hard to live there? hardly terraforming and interplanetary trade would have made rebuilding in 4000 years easy, would have made rebuilding in 40 years easy and that bombardment was no were near as catastrophic as an asteroid impact. "Nothing taller than two stories is still standing" or something along those lines as Carth put it IE something was still standing. and the undercity would be the least fine of all places, explosive debris tends to go up, then down, hard. Taris better provide good bonuses to the Empire, or it will get the Death Star treatment...

Skirmish is just a land or space battle, like any other RTS games multiplayer, no campaign features. the galactic conquest MP is 2 players only, and its the singleplayer sandbox game only instead of the enemy being AI, its a real person. Thats been my understanding of it since i first heard of EAW. and from the continued info from videos, posts and dev transcripts, it would appear to be true.

It if the host crashes, then everybody gets the boot, if a client crashes, they just exit the game and everybody else continues on playing To ensure system stability, you can reformat your hard drive(s) and to a fresh install of windows (patch it up of course) Also, having broadband (Cable, DSL, T1, whatever) is ALOT better for gaming online, you get less lag, and your connection is alot more stable. If you have a dial up (phone line) connection, don't play online, its just no fun and crashing and connection problems are just part of life when you play games online you get used to it

There is no pressure in space, its a vacuum Ships in SW would be able to survive in the atmosphere of a Gas Giant, the upper atmosphere, but the slightest mistake or as a result of battle damage could send it to a fate similar to that of a submarine thats gone too deep...
-
we are, but some real life sharing of knowledge is something more forums should encourage. And everything is still on the topic of Star Wars, it clearly shows its more fun than fact
-
Interesting topic. The pressure of entering the atmosphere of a gas giant (Jupiter for exapmle) is insanely high, anything going in, would not be coming out. its like putting a human 20 kilometers under the ocean and expecting him/her to survive. The only reason the Falcon survived was because it was either: A. fiction or B. the extreme upper atmosphere and they should not have been able to breathe. Also, jupiter is much farther away from earth than the sun is, even with a good boost to its mass and size, it probably wouldn't be very bright or hot, it would make a difference, and would probably screw up our nice Day/Night cycle and seasons. the Earth is 1 AU (Approx 149,000,000 kilometers) from the sun When Jupiter is closest to Earth is is about 5 AUs away (Approx 745,000,000 kilomaters) I would be more worried about the radiation from Jupiter gone star, or what would happen to the solar winds, magnetic fields or the orbits of the planets. Adding mass to jupiter so fusion can happen, is not a good idea IMO And don't worry about the Sun going out, its a few billion years off (10 i think the estimate is), and it will become a Red Giant, and consume the inner planets. Humanity needs to not be here when it happens But don't worry about that either, we're going to blow our own dumbass selves up before anything like that happens. Fighting on a gas platform in EaW will be just like the ocean planets, only instead of kilometers of water, you have hundreds of thousands of kilometers of gas beneath you. Shouldn't be to hard to do/mod, just make the water brown, yellow, white, red, whatever.

Can the AI attack you on the galactic map?
Infinite_Xero replied to Sabu113's topic in EAW General Discussion
Petroglyph is populated by people who made the Command & Conquer games, if these guys can't realise that you need superb AI in an RTS then the gaming industry is truly doomed It's a certainty the AI will attack you, whether it attacks intelligently, remains to be seen... Besides, there is multiplayer galactic conquest so if you only have 1 friend thats into RTS or Star Wars, you should be set. -
What will immerse you most into the SW universe? Part II
Infinite_Xero replied to Nevets's topic in EAW General Discussion
the ships, nothing says Star Wars like a fleet of ISDs Cheers! To the SSD and Imperial might! -
The more i read about EaW the more excited about it i get things i was happy to read were in: AT-ATs can crush infantry Star Destroyers can create unlimited numbers to TIE fighters, using a cooldown time special ability The Empire are powerful and numerous The Rebels have to steal their technology The battlefields are look large, and the battles (in space and on the planets) seem to last for ages things i was unhappy to read: nothing! there was nothing in that preview that i didn't like can't wait for release
-
The shaky cam video shows that you just wait for it to get into range and drag n drop the icon onto the planet, then BOOM but if it can't carry troops and fighters, it is just a waste of money i mean, how many planets would you blow up? really? with just over 40, in the largest campaign, we cannot afford to blow many up, we need to the income, especially after building the massively expensive Death Star, which if it does not come with troops and fighters, is of no use to securing new income to pay for new fleets/armies that can actually do the job that needs to be done. until i read that the Death Star is the ultimate planetary assault platform, that can blow the planet up if need be, loaded to the brim with troops, walkers, tanks, fighters etc. then it is just a gimic if it is a gimic (i hope not) i really want the choice to: A. Not build it B. Not have to pay for the first one
