A time when the base shields were a cool art object...
BigInc replied to Cain's topic in EAW General Discussion
Well, I brought this up a couple of months ago... People must ignore me:( http://swempireatwar.10.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=1369&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=biginc BigInc -
If I recall correctly, either in the live chat or from Delphi, they stated that on some planets the shield generator is outside the shield and on others it is actually inside the shield!! So, in some situations these planets will be harder to take over and planetary bombardments would not be as effective! BigInc

I totally agree, if you don't want to follow the campagin just play Scenarios or skirmish mode where you just try to conquer the whole galaxy or battle at once particluar point! Again, really this info that is released has nothing new! w00t everything is still as I expected! BigInc

Hayatus due to lack of useful info and quality discussions.

Well I am talking about the PC Version anyway! The PS2 & XBOX versions are probably fine, however, PC Games have higher expectations in this situation because the graphic potiental between XBOX, PS2, GC are crap compared to modern PC's. So, I would expect the PC version to be better, however, if you play the PC version it is crap, compared to other PC games on the market. -

Well, I can see how SWBF2 was somewhat fun! You have to try and rationalize yourself for buying the game ... I mean be realistic, I have bought and played Far Cry, Half Life 2, F.E.A.R, just to mention and few, and the graphics are 10 times better! Just face it they took the xbox version (733 Pentium, 64 Meg G-Force 2) and copied it to PC. They didnt' buff up the graphics one bit! If I wanted to play something that crappy I would install Solider of Fortune or something from the late 1990's. Also, the figther controls were horrible! I could really go on for hours!!! So, I'll stick with the games that have good game play and graphics and try to salvage what money I wasted on SWBF2! -

SWBFII SUCKED!! The graphics were horrible! It looked like they took the orginal and just added some content! Not even enought to keep me interested for more than 10 minutes! UnInstall!! EBAY... So, if they are still working on that game they are crazy! They have to be gearing up for EAW! BigInc! -
This is a very good questions, however, I think that it will matter on how many space stations you have! For example, if you have three, all at different planets you'll then be able to build three at a time. I would assume the planets will operate in the same manner. If you have more than one factory (fatory = example) you would then be able to build 1 unit at each factory. Its not rocket science. I've never played a RTS that does not use this formula. LOL BigInc

Humm, maybe this could mean other things! I highly doubt they would release the game guide before the actual game. That is complete non-sense. So there are only two possiblities: 1.) The information is incorrect! 2.) They know something we don't! Maybe the game is going to be released before they expected? I would put my money on #1. Anyway, just food for thought. BigInc

I believe that this was confirmed in the live chat that units will not gain experience because they die to quickly etc. BigInc

I would never trust the auto-resolve! I have used it on some games like Rome: Total War and I "believe" that one time I had 1000 more troops than the other side and was in my own castle and hit auto resolve and LOST!!! What the heck I thought.. I had enough archers they could of never reached my walls, let alone the rain of fire they sent with them? Who the? What the? From this day forward I refuse to ever use AUTO-RESOLVE!! AGAIN <-EVIL Lets not turn this into stupidity, if a player sends a transport unguarded, they must be silly. So, lets talk about a transport situation and get it over with!! If you did engage a transport should only take 2 minutes max to take out if that! It would be Extreme Fun to lay waste to the ships. This situation reminds me of when I run into a lower level Orc in World of Warcraft!! Let the Slaughter begin!! MUHAHAHA!! Die Orc Stay on Target!! BigInc

w00t ever! Who would just want to play this game from the galaticmap and not battle!!! From my understanding the battles should be pretty fast paced. Auto-resolve blah! Lets make the game boring!! Oh and while were at it lets add auto manage to all the planets! YAH!!! BORING!!! They are trying to make a fun game here, not something I put on my shelf and leave there to collect dust! BigInc

Thanks! I found it to be very useful, it appears that they are keeping the game in line with what I have been envisioning. BigInc

Hi, could someone please post the chat! Many of us are at work and were unable to join due to administration rights set by my company on their computers! Thanks! BigInc

Yeah, not sure! I went into the store though and bought it! The guy told me Feb 2nd. Anyways, I hope the date does not get pushed back! I took that week of the 6th off so I can play all week!

Hello, everyone! I just reserved my copy today at EB Games and they told me they will have it in Feb 2nd. I was under the impression it wasn't being released until Feb 7th! This correct?

Actually, I hope that in general we will have the ability to place buildings etc on the planets otherwise it takes a lot of the strategy out of the game. In most strategy games building placement is extremely important! If you place a "key" building in the wrong spot you could be more likely to loss it due to it depending on where the LZ (Landing Zone) is on the map! To answer the AI questions, I would think it is almost standard for most games to allow you to set way points! I would not think it would be hard to have that functionality build in? Most of the time you should hold "shift" for example and click on the first spot you want your units to move and click a second and a thrid etc. It would definitely improve things in this area. I am just keeping my fingers crossed!

A very good of a game that was made as a Mod orginally would be Half-Life Counter-Strike! It was probably the most successful Mod to this day. So, a good MOD for this game would be like "Battlestar Galactica", "Wing Commander" or "Space above and Beyond". Anyway, that is my two-cents.

Hello everyone, First of I would like to take a moment to thank everyone for all their opinions and feedback that has been given about this game. I have been an avoidant reader of this form and have finally decided to take part in the conversation. However, there are a few concerns that I can no longer ignore. The most impelling thing I would like to bring up is the fact that everyone keeps bringing up how they want to see recon, espionage, recruiting, diplomacy, tractor beams and blah blah blah. Well I would just like to point out that all of those ideas on paper seems fine and yet quite exciting! In reality, we must keep in mind that sometimes too much detail and micromanagement can lead to disaster. I would like to point that games that take too much time and depth can sometimes turn a large portion of players away. For instance, if I can use "Starcraft" as an example! The game is very fast paced, units are all equally balanced between the three races, yet it simple and very exciting. I continue to play Starcraft because I have yet to find a strategy game that lives up to its expectations. So, this is my biggest concern! I am extremely excited about Empire at War because I have grown up as a huge Star Wars fan and continue to be. After reading many post I decided to try Rebellion because everyone keep talking about it. It was okay if that! Even though it was 10 years old I did keep this in mind. I mean come-on I still play Starcraft. The interface was average and the battles were lame. The game seemed more focused on the boring things like building and using your hero’s to turn the tide in your favor. I must say that the game was lacking. In summary, all I really want from Empire at War is a good, well balanced (Rebellion and Empire) game that delivers. Not to complicated; yet fast paced. Adding all this extra non-sense will ruin the game and yes, you might see a sequel but after everyone is disappointed from the first no one will buy the sequel. I know I may seem to critical but I am just being honest! I am sorry if most of you don't feel the same way, but I have to express myself! Thank you for reading this post and I know I will be hearing from you! BigInc
