Well, it does say in the instruction book that if you auto-resolve a battle, you would lose more units than if you had commanded the battle yourself. Does ANYONE actually read instruction books before they play a game?!

In the ground battles, I noticed that if an infantry unit is damaged, the health meter goes down and the number of individual soldiers in that unit decreases. But if you heal it at a bacta station, the health meter goes back to full, but the number of soldiers in the unit stays the same. For example, I had a rebel infantry unit got damaged from 5 soldiers to 1. Then I healed it at a bacta station, and its health meter went up to full, but it was still that one soldier. Does that mean that one soldier will fight like five? If not, and it only fights as one, then is its health really back up to full? Discuss.

First of all, its true that the losing side also gets instant repairs under the current system. And its also true that if both sides repair their ships to the max, it would be just as if they had instant repairs. But one of my points in my previous post is that no one is forcing the players to repair their ships. They could decide not to repair them and just use them as a diversion or a "clean-up" fleet in the next battle, or they can repair them to full health and use them as their main force. Either way, it's up to their own preference and strategy. Secondly, as I said in my post, the Rebellion relies on quick raids to damage the enemy. How could they do that if the enemy is repaired after every single raid? And third, why did you agree with me and then change your mind, and saying you were joking? From what I could tell, you seemed to genuinely agree with my post.

I wouldn't care much, but I would like the last battle to be the most epic battle in the game. Also, I want to command the galaxy after I've taken control of it.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. However, I dont' believe having to manually repair units is "penalizing" the player. It seems that we would have to repair our ships after a major battle, as it is an essential part of a galactic commander's strategy. It forces them to carefully consider how they spend their credits, as they ask themselves, "Should I repair my fleet before attacking my next target, or should I save the resources to build new ships, using my damaged ships as the 'clean-up' fleet?" Let's say the winner chooses to repair his ships. This would give the loser a fighting chance. While the winner repairs his fleet, it would buy time for the loser to rebuild his ships, as his fleet would undoubtedly be in shambles at the end of the battle. However, if the repairs are instant, then the winner would immediately set out to conquer the next planet, while the loser won't have any time to rebuild his fleets. As the war between the two progresses, it would become increasingly one-sided, as the initial winner's armies become more and more powerful, while the initial loser becomes weaker and weaker. Also, hit and run tactics is the main form of warfare for the Rebellion. Any rebel player has to jump in unexpectedly, strike hard and fast, and then hit the retreat button before the Imperials can retaliate. The goal of these guerrilla tactics is not to destroy the enemy, but to hurt the enemy. It forces the Imperials to waste valuable time and money to repair ships (once again, the Imperial player must decide if he should repair the fleet or not). But if the Imperials get free and instant repairs, it defeats the whole purpose of hit-and-runs. It's true that manually rebuilding the fleets would take longer, but it would help balance the power between the two sides. Also, if you use the Rebellion system of having ships at a space station repair much faster, it could speed up the game. I hope you would take my thoughts into account and maybe revisit the repair system. And thanks again for all your efforts into creating this game.

Well, Delphi's reaction pretty much confirmed the instant repair thing. Its a really bad idea for ships to instantly repair after a battle, since that's the only way the Rebellion is able to hurt the Empire, by executing hit-and-runs and forcing them to waste time and resources to repair their units. But since that's out the window, I guess the only way to balance it is for the Rebels to be stronger, as the threads saying "Rebel troops are stronger than stormtroopers!!!" seem to believe. But thanks for doing the research anyways.

1. That would really suck. When you win a battle, you should have the option to repair your units in the galactic map, and have to spend credits and time on it. This would allow the other side to mount a counter-attack while your forces are weak and would add another layer of strategic depth to the gameplay. Hope they change it in the actual game. 2. Maybe it was a heavy frigate, and you had it on full weapons power. I dunno.

Okay, in the tutorial, it shows you how to steal technology with R2D2 and C3P0 with their own special fleet. The problem is, how do you do it in galactic conquest? I got up to Tatooine and decided to steal tech first before assaulting the planet. But there's no R2D2 and C3P0!! In the tutorial, it randomly gave you the stealing fleet just for instructional purposes, but how do you get it in the campaign? Same with raid fleets. Do you have to build them, or do they just arbitrarily appear on one of your planets? This really has me stumped.

Okay, going back to the original topic. Acclamators were never meant to be frigates. They were just big transport ships that can carry a huge army and everything complementing it, including AT-TEs, gunships, mobile command posts, etc. It didn't actually have that many weapons cuz it was never meant to be a fighting capital ship.

How exactly do you call for reinforcements??
rogueace127 replied to rogueace127's topic in EAW General Discussion
Well, that's what I was thinking of doing, but I didn't want to wait that long. Anyway, I did manage to beat that level, but I was just wondering how to call for reinforcements. -
Would the galactic map be better off turn based?
rogueace127 replied to tFighterPilot's topic in EAW General Discussion
Ok, I'm glad to hear that the galactic mode does not reflect the one in the real game. There's still one thing that bothers me though. When you play as the rebellion in the beginning, you get to send a smuggler to Nal Hutta to divert credits, and there's an icon showing that. When you play as the Imperials later, there's STILL that icon showing the smuggler's presence. I thought it was really lame that a planet would have the icon signifying to the enemy that a smuggler is diverting credits. If there's a icon showing it, then any half-brained moron would know to send a bounty hunter after him. Isn't the whole point of having a smuggler to divert credits DISCREETLY? It would have been better if there hadn't been an icon, and the only way you would know a smuggler's stealing funds was if you realize that you're not getting as much money from the planet as you should. Therefore, only the sharp players would notice it and would be able to stop the smuggler. -

So you're saying you should have built more units in the galactic map mode? Cuz with the tutorial talking and stuff, you never get a chance to do that. Or are you supposed to destroy all the Rebel forces and the base will just a bunch of infantry and two speeder bikes? -
Ok, in the last mission of the tutorial, it shows you how to call for reinforcements after capturing that reinforcement point. That's all fine and dandy, but when I capture the second reinforcement point on the level, I can't get reinforcements. I click on the button, and the window pops up, but THERE'S NOTHING THERE TO SELECT!!!! Can anyone explain this?

They haven't said anything about 3rd party factions, so I'm guessing they won't be in. It'll prolly be nonlinear in that you can choose which system to attack when you're in the galactic world map. And why would you need military strength to take neutral worlds? I would think that diplomacy would suffice.
-
When I said "defense", I did not mean fixed fortifications, as building turrets and walls early in the game would be stupid. I meant infantry and tanks and stuff that I would park on the perimeter of my base, while I research upgrades. If the enemy attacks, sucks to be them. If they don't , then once I build up a sizable force, I send all my pre-built units that I used as base defense to attack the enemy.

Uh.......so we won't be playing other clans? That was my whole idea for joining a clan and creating a team name in the first place.
-
Acutally, I was thinking of having Hellbolt Tactical Command be the overall clan name, and having Bacta Squad and stuff be the team names. Not only would it provide a face to other clans, but will promote a sense of unity and spirit. Online, we could be called the "Hellbolts" by other clans. That would be so awesome. Also, I'm going to have a friend make a clan insignia. I'll show it to you guys when its done.
-
Yeah, it sucks.
-
Ok, but we need a clan name first. I have a really good idea for a name back when me and battlefield wanted to start a clan, so you can PM me if you want to know the details.
-
I want to join, but will there be an official name for our clan? Cuz having a cool name instead of just "PFF clan" will promote team unity and spirit. If you guys want, I can even have a clan logo made for whatever you guys decide to name the clan.
-
No, but its been a Lucasarts tradition to have a cool cinematic where the gold guy is doing something, like X-wings flying over a canyon that is actually the Gold guy (Rogue Squadron), or Jango pulling the gold guy off the purple L-shaped pedestal and jumping on it himself (Bounty Hunter).
-
The game is over as soon as you destroy the other faction? Hmm,I would have thought the game would let you play a little longer as you rule your newly-conquered galaxy, to you know, enjoy the spoils of war and such. But in that case, I probably will use the Death Star.
-
Go to Lucasarts.com. At the top, you will see the new gold guy with a new Lucasarts logo below it. It looks like its running while carrying the arch thing on top of its head.
-
True, but I would want to build up a huge army, go in and exterminate every last enemy unit, and seize the planet's resources for myself. Afterall, why waste a perfectly good planet that can benefit your forces? But then again, I would be playing as the Rebels, so I wouldn't be using the Death Star anyways.
