Total War was based on at least somewhat based on historical accuracy. Star Wars, this is more or less based on the rebels fighting for their very lives and thus willing to go to any length vs the imperials who are willing to go to any length to dominate the galaxy. Now honestly, if the Death Star showed up do you think the rebels would have been high in morale, or willing to try and destroy it? Even with the plans. Now there are enhancements for the troops and for the accuracy again we dont know everything about the full game to know anything about the maps..their might be bigger maps. As for unit tactics, honestly Tatootine gives us a perfect example..unless you want to be cheap and use the whole bombing just outside the shield generator bit.. As with 4x games and the research tree, I believe in the tutorial it is said the rebels steal their research, the empire must actually work on it. This game does have special forces and covert ops, we see them carried out in the tutorial, granted it might not be on the same level of rebellion yet we dont really know that yet do we? Right now this is all speculation. -

RTS was always such a broad term though. There are plenty of things which can define a game as RTS. When it comes to strategy games the categories arent defined. They're constantly evolving and changing as developers attempt to carve out their own niche in the market. A market that is growing smaller by the way according to the decline in PC game sale last year as opposed to 2004, of course this is a periodical thing that occurs as a fresh crop of MMORPGs came out..(the same kind of drop could be seen when UO and Evercrack first came out). Of course this is all schemantics really and only the true diehard fans of either class will complain about changes to genre and say "this has been done before elsewhere." Well..there are very few original ideas for categories, only original ways to execute said ideas. -

I notice you complain about the speed of things built however its been stated already on other forums as well as this one that the build time was increased. We will not know for sure just how long it'll take for a Nebulon B frigate to be built, we dont know how long it'll take for hyperspace travel to occur. Frankly we dont know how the modding community will be able to fix any of our so called dislikes of the game. Sure Petroglyph will put out EaW and it'll be a fantastic game, however there will undoubt be a slew of modders behind them, and we already see it, with the demo alone that will be able to correct what is wrong. We got an extremely limited taste of the game, and while the graphics may not be intensive remember this isnt supposed to be some hyper realistic game. Its more of a beer and pretzels RTS. The graphics are more than adequete to draw us into the game and make us enjoy it. I think we've all been spoiled by the recent crops of games that were released before the holiday season each one seeming to be a bigger penis waving venture in terms of who could make it look more real than the last. Great graphics dont make a great game. We will need to hold our breaths. However I do agree on a few points..if the demo is any indication of how the full game is(and I seem to remember them saying that the demo was made before they began to make changes) then this game will be boring and I'll buy it and shelve it until modders fix it..but I dont think it'll be that bad. -
Way to give a guy a heart attack I was just about to close the hex editor....now...would it be okay if we discussed how to unlock the Mon Cal Cruisers or will you guys be kind enough to release a patch and do it for us legally?

Even making simple changes, like to Caused the game to crash. Changing the tech level even adding another squadron or adding another zero to the starting balance causes the game to crash on start up. Am I missing something?

Now before I start screwing around with the mod again and giving myself a runtime error, what exactly is it I should be look for to mess around with? I know there is a location with the demo mod information and so on.

Well I tried screwing with the starting units and now I'm getting a runtime error so I've got to DL the demo again(thankfully without the frustration) and try all over.

How the heck did you manage to get those?

Well when the fleet jumps, the s-foils are already locked in attack position, to make them faster you need to set them to cruise, in which case I run my X-wing squads(4) along with my corvettes (4) ahead to engage enemy fighters and bombers. Behind them comes the Y-wings(4) sending two squadrons after each ship I use the ion cannons to cripple them long enough for the Neb Bs to come into range(2). Meanwhile my Y-wings are selectively targeting critical systems on both ships picking them apart by going for the shield generators FIRST. If its one thing about the imperial ships its that those shield generators are easy to knock out. After the Victory falls, everything is pretty much a piece a cake.

I must admit that I found this comment to be somewhat amusing... Come on Cain, we all know that a realism mod will seriously unbalance the game, especially if we don't add units to both sides. The Empire has got a number of destroyer class vessels (Venerator, Victory, and Imperator) while the Rebels only have one (MC-80 Liberty Class). Maybe we can balance it with the amount it costs to build the ships... Maybe. Sour grape means Spoil-sport, Pessimist, Doubter, Party Crasher... Etc... Ahem thats why you add, the Dreadnaught, Assault Frigate, MC-80b, B-WING. Honestly if you think Y-wings are nasty, those things are brutal.

The AI does seem to be dumbed down quite abit, its rather easy to run over the AI even on hard now. I mean all you really need to do is land MPTLs to the east, run them over to the power generator and blast the frak out of it to expose the base to bombing runs.

The demo is great, the tutorial is absolutely flawless however I think its too short. It could have used the skirmish mode. Even if you didnt include every unit a space and ground skirmish mode would have been wonderful. Of course now I wonder if another demo will be released before the game drops with the skirmish mode, or something to have it unlocked maybe?

I enjoyed the demo immensely, I wish you had been able to allow us to construct the headhunters, or at least the marauder corvettes. Some expanded space capabilities to hit the starbase, or the ability to retreat would have been nice. It didnt make too much sense not to be able to run away especially after I had lost both my Neb Bs, and one of my Corvettes and I would have liked to have run. The demo did seem rather short though, it would have been nice if you had added one or two more planets to it but I do suppose with the game less than a month from launching I can hold out till then

Thats it, I'm done. My dl rate dropped to an unacceptably low level(30 hours and still dropping) and then as I go to other dl sites it didnt get better. Then you have the fact 3d gamers keeps tossing me off the line everytime I try to get on and stay on.

Ugh..now my dl speed is down to 30..this will only get worse before it gets better
