  1. Okay seeing that screenshot I think I pissed myself in anticipation...I wonder though if its gonna just be another game like SFC or will this one actually stand out.
  2. The original three, the prequels were a different story though.

  4. Is that your way of dodging an arguement, because aside from me calling you the worst kind of fanboy, everything else is still valid. Including Rebellion being horrid when it came to space battles.
  5. Oh honestly now, a true Star Wars simulator? What are you using to base your knowledge on what a true star wars simulator is? And dont say Warlords, I'm asking for what evidence that is canon that has ships moving along the Z-axis..of course seeing as how there are only two movies RotJ and RotS with battles and neither one of them shows ships moving along the z-axis only at different levels to keep the ships from hitting each other, even at close range. You're the worst kind of fanboy though. Your the kind where if you dont control every little faucet of a battle then its no good. Hey Rebellion had 3D space battles..and guess what? They sucked.
  6. Or beat them to a bloody standstill..I mean heck if you add Hapes, then you have to add the other 62 planets in the Hapan Empire. Each of them heavily industrialized with their own little sector fleet, in addition to the main navy.
  7. B-wings and K-wings...sigh..cant wait for the full game..cant wait the next day to DL the first mods.
  8. The 3D part was rather minor when you then consider everything else that made the game great. Storyline, music, graphics. The 3D itself again wasnt that big of a deal. The major capital ships were better off moving in a straight line than taking time to move them on the Z-axis only to move them down again. Strike craft could move along the Z-axis because they moved fast enough that they could take out the wayward resource collector and still have the speed to join the main fighting in a matter of 30 seconds depending on how large the map was and amount of fuel (or no fuel in later HWs) consumed. The fact that moving along the Z-axis is restricted doesnt hurt the space battle, doesnt even mean the strategy is any different. As for the capital ships being on the same z-axis when switch to cinamtic view I've seen Imp capitals on different levels. So its not like you dont notice it, its just hard to notice from the top down perspective even at the angle the game puts you in.
  9. Z95s are in the game and buildable, they're the first fighters for the Rebel Alliance. V-wings and Venators arent though. Leftovers.
  10. This thread is about Superman wondering why the rebels would use what he mistook to be the Juggernaut, of which the MPLT is not. Of course its just another one line complaint, so it doesnt have much depth. As for the Rebels and what they have, how do you think they got Neb-Bs? Most of them defected to the Rebel cause. Hence it is likely that they can have a fleet of Venators as it is more than likely the crews of those ships wouldnt exactly be pro-Imperial and would be startled at the prospect of the Empire. Then you got the fact that it is possible that the rebellion could have stolen some of these ships out of mothballs.
  11. Not that I've seen. The original poster is just making complaints for little reason.
  12. Horrible game, I barely remember any of it but if its the Juggernaut I'm thinking of then again thats Clone Wars era weaponry.
  13. Damn..now I need to build a time machine go into the future, steal the expansion and or sequel to EaW and return to the present as a hero to the community. Now who wants to fund my time machine?
  14. Because the rebel military used second hand weaponry in its early stages. Of course this sounds like just another complaint of yours without any real way to remedy it, or offer another suggestion..
  15. Says who? He has every right to bash another game because he is also a consumer. As for the asinine comment, lets just take a wait and see approach as to what accolades EaW will and wont receive.
  16. Delphi if its anyone who should be getting thanks its you guys at Petroglyph. Admittingly I had a few reservations when I first heard of this game, us strategy fans have been burned in the past by SW games and I wasnt looking forward to this one until I began to see screen shots and then began to read some of the concepts. The demo really clinched my liking of this game. The modability of this game is breath taking. Even novices like myself can get involved in tweaking the universe. Hopefully more developers will take que from this. The only other game which comes to mind thats as easy to mod as this one is Half-Life. I have no doubt someone will create a new game all together using the shell of EaW as a basis. So thanks Delphi, and thanks Petroglyph.
  17. Honestly the 3D plain in Homeworld was an asset that was rarely used, even in multiplayer matches. It was a nice feature to have but it wasnt exactly used in great volume. In all the games I played online I can count on my hands the number of times I actually used the z axis to my advantage. The currently 2.5D movement is just fine and infact if you rarely used the Z axis in homeworld then thats what it became as well except for camera movement which I consider superior on the normal level to EaW, but Homeworld doesnt have the cinema view, a nice feature makes for great visuals especially with music in the backround, and the combat chatter is sorta lacking. Homeworld and HW:C had great backround between pilots talking to one another. Oh well.
  18. Meh doesnt matter, the file for the names is easily enough accessable to change. So what all my Mon Cals have the name of Battlestars... ;D
  19. What is meant is that certain bases come with a small garrison pre-built. IE the level 2 space station if alone will call in a Corvette and have 2 Y-wing squadrons and 2 X-wing squadrons that it will launch. As these forces are destroyed the station will launch their replacements. I managed to hold off a very sizeable enemy fleet 3 Corvettes 3 Gunships 4 Y-wing Squadrons and 3 X-wing squadrons because of the extra forces supplied by the station..granted I was also using the planetary ion cannon to disable the ISD and escorting Vic Stars...
  20. Oh the humanity..if I didnt need to work in the morning I'd still be playing..but after 20 minutes of playing...jesus christ..I figured it'd be nothing but space battles..but then I realized that in order to capture certain planets I need to land troops..and 1 squad of rebel infanty wont cut it. I am definately going to be posting a few after action reports for this campaign and thats what it results to, a campaign.
  21. The Marauder isnt made up. It makes plenty of apperances elsewhere and in other games..in EaW its weapons arent exactly whats known..typically from the RPG books the ships were armed with 8 turbolaser cannons. Not missiles..
  22. Maybe you forgot that the game isnt set in the EU perhaps? Or maybe you forget that all the battles we see in Ep 4-6 are small scale. Again I point out the fact the rebel alliance is a small organization. So what would be the point of grand battles of thousands of troops when during this time from a rebel standpoint they dont exist..and even more when they wouldnt even dare go after the Empire in such a fashion as to be a conventional battle..try watching Ep4-6 again. Even the Battle of Hoth wasnt that big with a few hundred RA troops defending again several hundred Imperial troops. Or maybe you forgot the game doesnt extend into the EU?
  23. Building an army and building a base have nothing to do with strategy. People think they do but honestly not really. You want real strategy then dig deep and try to find a copy of The Operational Art of War. You can find a review for it on gamespot..that game is chalk full of strategy and no base building, no resource management, no army building. Just die in the wool command.
  24. You want to bring in Ep 3? Fine, that was two galactic powers duking it out across multiple worlds to the point where even Coruscant was indanger in the openning scenes of the movie. This was the Republic at war with a group of established industrialized worlds that were attempting to break away. You do not have that with Ep 4-6. Remember, the Rebel Alliance is a much smaller group. You wont get massed battles with thousands of troops because the rebel alliance doesnt, and wouldnt have that kind of numbers until after RotJ when the war becomes more traditional and even then on the ground the New Republic had smaller numbers. Then with shields few planets in the SW universe could afford a shield network to cover the entire planet. Thats where rebellion falters. It just assumed that one shield generator instantly granted protection to the entire planet.
  25. Wasnt talking about overall profits, I'm talking about the sales themselves. Comparitively speaking sales have been down for PC games some 14% and this has been attributed to more people deciding to play games like Guild Wars and WoW, and the other numerous MMORPGs which have sprung up. So while more profit has been made by developers of the MMORPG that doesnt mean the hard numbers of games sold is higher. Two different aspects. Plenty of strategy games let you do one factor at a time, but not all at once(Rebellion let you control space but ground combat was abstract. Force Commander let you control ground but space wasnt even a factor). Something like that might just be out of the limitations of the current crop of AIs. Or maybe its just developers dont want to frustrate gamers by allowing the galactic map to continue on while battles are taking place simply because that would place undo pressure and detract from the games overall fun. Granted plenty of people on this board wouldnt mind it, I myself wouldnt mind it, it would make the game truely RTS, but the average gamer would more than likely hate that feature.
