  1. Why don't you just avoid the Mon Cal altogether? I've been doing some prep for his voice and it is really a very annoying voice with that sucking sound and all that phlegm. I'd actually suggest using a simple British accented Officer or maybe the voice of a farmboy future Jedi. I'm going to do some recordings and sed them your way by Monday Lord La Forge. Let me know if you already have one.
  2. Playing as Empire I cannot have a space battle over Corulag without getting an exception. BTW the 3.0 Mod is great!
  3. Thanks for the update. Now, when I have a space battle at Yavin 4 I get an exception. I'm playing as Rebels with full Techs and I had a Rebel Trooper unit in orbit and was attacked by an unknown Imperial Fleet. I know it's going to be much easier to fix once the full edition comes out, so I'm not in any terrible hurry and I don't want you to feel like I'm making any incredulous demands on you. Thanks for the mod, it really excites me for the real thing. EDIT: Upon further investigation the problem occurs whenever I have land units in orbit around any planet.
  4. Whenever I have a battle with the Mon Mothma Team I get an Exception that blacks out the screen and I have to Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out of it and End Task the game. I think this is a great mod and unlocking the game has really shown how good it is.
  5. Ghostly makes a great point. Without the mod teams there would not be near as much interest in this game. Delphi-PG-Lucas owe the modders a plethora of thanks and good will. I think a great way to show that would be to endorse a mod or two and sell it under their name with the modders' permission and give a 50:50 cut off of these modded expansions to the modders themselves. The name "Star Wars" can claim a lot of the excitement over the game. But the way the developers have delayed the realease there would not be so much excitement without the modding community. Let's hear it for the modders!

    What if

Well, it's everyone's goal to build up the undefeatable fleet so why shouldn't the computer try it too you will be pitted in this situation, best to keep an open mind and compare firepower and maneuverability. good hunting!
  7. Well droids cost money. Wookies are essentially free, save for the cost of food and transit to the base of enslavement. Plus enslaving Wookies is definitely an ego boost for any imperial commander.

    super flu

Well it looks like a flu of that proportion may be headed our way what with this bird flu. I just hope I don't get all oozy inside and have my skin start drooping off my body, but enough of old age. I'm sure this new Bird Flu will take some lives but the EaW World should be safe from it. Unless mynock carry it?
  9. Nice sig there Grand Admiral
  10. What a great little article. imo - once the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser is available, it's always available unless the empire can get their hands on all of the plans for it. So what, no Mon Calamari left? We can imitate their lovely design process and build those marvelous ships.
  11. Well I certainly didn't mean to start a fight, nor did I have the opinion that this was a volatile issue. Asking, "Are you a boy or a girl?" may be offensive in person, but I think it's okay here. My apologies for anyone offended by this topic.
  12. imo - I basically agree with Crush on his last post and I would like to add that I think that right after the enemy takes a nuetral planet is one of the best times to attack because they will have recieved resistance from planetary defenses. They'd also have to displace a fleet to attack the planet so they will have become weak in an area. Everytime the opponent makes a move he leaves something behind.
  13. I think the claim is that it's just to complex to do something like that. The battles will already be so involved that adding to the confusion isn't something that the designers were interested in.
  14. I don't mean to sound piggish, but are there any girls in the bar here?

    Question

That is a good intel tactic, but first you must have the resources and time available to sacrifice for this. It sounds a bit expensive and I hope that they provide us an alternative such as spy missions to find out what intel may be necessary to bring the enemy to his knees.
  16. If were talking about the final mop up battle, then yeah, it'll prolly be a waste of time and just a battle to see the final victory movie. But I don't think that's what we'd call the final battle. I think I would refer to the final battle as the one with 40 capital ships and 1000 fighters engaged in close combat where one poor tactic could spell doom for you or a marvelous insight could mean victory. This would be followed by an onslaught of 100 vehicles and 2000 troopers defending against a gigantic invasion force. We're talking bombing runs, heroes, AT-ATs, and more! Thousands of laser blasts and so much going on that it's a struggle to stay on top of your tactics. The tide turning battle, the one that determines the overall winner. That'll be a big battle, the rest is just mop up in comparison.
  17. I don't know if you keep up with current events or history very much, but the Axis Powers lost. They overconsumed and were no longer able to grow. They did not have a viable plan for survival once they rolled over their enemies. Their hard hitting Blitzkrieg did them no good after they took over land. They were forced to spy on their own people because they could not trust the populace. Resistance movements weakened the morale of the conquerors who were then forced to wonder from which direction an attack would come. The Allies had Hitler flinching at ghosts and kept him uncertain as to their wiles. The entire time there were millions ready to pounce on his Northern line just a short way from shore. Now in Europe they had a threat present from some unknown direction and a constant battle on the Eastern front. Japan's efforts in the Pacific were coming to a stand still and the Allies began to take back islands. The Onslaught prepared, but the enemy did not prepare well enough. On the day of the invasion Allied forces fought into occupied Europe and delved deep into the heart of the enemy. With resources spread thin, the Axis drooped and headed across the Seigfried line. The Allies pressed on. The Axis fell. So much for an early Offensive.
  18. You can check out the topic "Quality vs Quanitity for more starting strategies.
  19. Maybe we could solve that problem by limiting the number of active topics. Nobody wants to have to search for every little thing that could be realted to their topics. And what if the search doesn't come up with anything but that's only because you use the wrong keywords? Anyway, all the stuff OMEGA suggested, that sounds cool. I know it won't be in EaW from what Teradyn said, but it would be cool. I think it would make the game way to complicated though. Maybe one day when we have like 3-4 players per side (i.e. 3 Empire vs. 3 Republic), that would be possible. What I'm suggesting here is a cooperative game in which there is a sort of Triumverate. Everyone works together in a cooperative mode where there is one Empire led by 3 players. A team multi-player game. The battles could be much more involved, focusing on more complex tactics based on a single battle strategy. I think I'd like that.
  20. Well, wee are unsure about the volatility of Tibanna gas. One can assume it is highly volatile if it is in high demand because most gases in high demand are used for power generation. I imagine that Tibanna gas may actually be more volatile than gases that we know about, but that's all guessing. Now if we are to believe that physics and chemistry are universal, then Tibanna gas is not just elemental, it would have to be some sort of combination of elements. I've never really thought about what a "superlaser" would do to a gas giant. Because of the burn marks about laser impacts I can tell that these lasers are certainly hot enough to burn. I don't think weve seen lasers fire through an gases in the movies, so there is no precedence, but I have to bring everyone's attention to a simple cigarette lighter. The Butane gas is exposed to a high temperature flint spark. If we model the gas giant as a huge ball of Butane and the laser as the spark then surely there would be an epic explosion, but would it be like a star? The light of a star, and our own sun, is not merely like a regular flame. The light we see coming from them is supplied by nuclear explosions. So for the gas giant to be star-like, there would have to be a series of nuclear explosions that feed on whatever fuel would be available. The Sun itself uses Hydrogen/Helium for this process. I do; however, believe that the superlaser offers a different sor of explosion. One that is powered by pure energy rather than by nuclear fueling. What it seems to do is crack the crust of a planet and travel clear through to the core of the planet at which point the energy is deposited directly into the solid dense metal that makes up that particular planet. I believe this core expands rapidly (possibly changed directly into an expansive gas) and this is what causes the breakdown of the planet. Now back to the gas giant. The core of Jupiter is relatively small for it size, is metallic and surrounded by metallic Hydrogen and that by liquid Hydrogen and that is surrounded by gaseous Hydrogen. It also has Helium aboard. Maybe you're right, maybe all it needs is a light. Now, back in Oct 2003, the Gallileo plunged into the planet's atmosphere. It contained about 100 grams of Plutonium. A nuclear explosion is said to have occured and could be seen in the atmosphere as a small black dot. This reaction did not cause the melt down of the entire planet, but perhaps an attack on the planet's core could accomplish a continuing nuclear reaction and develop a new star for this solar system when the sun goes out.
  21. Wait, are we doing a reality check? Since when do infantry use laser blasters? No point in talking reality, let's look at the movies. On the DS in ANH the stormtroopers mostly fired when stationary and in a rather old British sytle, just standing still. Now in ESB the snowtroopers all stopped to fire on the Millenium Falcon. Not only did they stand still, but right out in the open too. On Endor the storm troopers select concealed positions around the bunker and fire off pot shots at Leia and Han instead of rushing it. All the other troopers are running around with no strict tactical sense. And they were routed by a bunch of furry midgets and a single scout walker. "A legion of my best troops," says Emperor Palpatine. Hm, not that great a group. Now real infantry, they move and shoot. Slow and smooth they travel through urban terrain and eliminate whatever threat they must. If current military operations were restricted to Lucas Infantry Tactics, they'd suck.
  22. Many of you have played SW Rebellion and have a good idea of their Obital Bombardment techniques: There was an option to target Military, Civilian, or just engage in a General Bombardment. Each ship offered a bombardment bonus from 0 to 5. The VSD was pretty high. So that may be how they make the VSD special.
  23. I've asked the Legacy modders what they think about hte expected AI. I was told that although they don't know what to expect, but they will do their best to make it tough. So if EaW turns out too easy, there's always that option.
  24. I agree with Fosh. I don't want to get spread thin because then I can't defend anything. One of the Rebellion's strongest attributes are her fighters and once I've researched or stolen the X-Wing, I'll really get into it with the Empire. Once I've got my fighters ready I'll arm my fleet with some capital cruisers and seek out strange new worlds, boldly go where ... oops, wrong one. I'll bring peace and order to the galaxy through the destruction of evil.
  25. Thanks for the Wiki Grey_Raven. I think I'll check that out a bit more often now.
