"The Source?" Dunno what you're talking about. Actually, the Shack doesn't have everything overpriced. I thought so for the longest time, but since I've been working there I noticed that we're pretty close on most things, and far more often then I'd ever guess we are even cheaper. Its really funny when we're cheaper then Walmart, and we are on more things then you'd think. Of course, we aren't cheaper or even close on some things... after all, they have to pay for my commission somehow

Ok, my job isn't that boring. Mostly because when nobody is in the store, I've got access to a computer so I'm only limited by the power of my mind... and the fact that I'm not allowed to download or install anything. Good ol' RadioShack... what would we do without them? Oh, right, we'd all go to Best Buy and pretend like we know what we're talking about. Here's the info I said I'd provide... just some basics for the book. Remember, everything at this stage is very much "rough", so keep that in mind. Also, comments are great. Basics: World of men, middle age era but without much technology. There are many myths and legends of great wars in the past, and mixed with these stories are tales of terrible machines capable of destroying entire nations in the blink of an eye. Most people work hard for their living, either as farmers or crafters of some sort. Merchants and traders travel between towns, selling goods and carrying gossip. There are a few rich or wealthy individuals, sometimes having been born rich and sometimes having made it big as a merchant or gold miner. ‘Scientists’ are a group of people capable of electrical manipulation. Little is known of them, there aren’t many, and they are both feared and respected. Some whisper tales of a time when scientists didn't exist, and there is even one story that claims people more powerful then even the scientists once waged war with them, almost destroying them all. History: Thousands of years ago, a great war occurred. Man fought against man, and in a final battle nearly everyone was killed. A great sickness arose after the battle among the survivors, and many more died. The survivors moved to a new home and forgot about the war, except in stories. As generations passed, the world became populous again, until war came again, and again the great sickness came. For a second time, mankind was nearly wiped out. This time, when the sickness ended, the survivors swore to never do battle again. Or so the stories go that have become the commonly believed history of the world. Scholars are rare, even fewer in numbers then the scientists (though much easier to find, as scholars do not hide like scientists do), and so this history has little proof, for or against.

I'm working on the plotline for my book. I should be starting on the actual book here soon, maybe even by the end of this week. If I remember to, I'll add some info tonight after work. (anybody notice how I'm always posting while at work? Tells you how much actual 'work' I do... not my fault the store is never busy )

The Great Stories of the Dynamic Duo Evo and Mitth

hmm.. not real big on the suicide one, its funny from my perspective but not one I would do to somebody. The flaming snowball fight was pretty good though, reminds me of campouts. Seems like we always end up playing with fire on campouts... we had one guy melt his shoes one time, and every winter campout somebody invariably melts their gloves. The smoke bomb wars also brings back memories... my cousin has done some pretty spectacular (or retarded) things with explosives. I've been lucky enough to be present for a few of them. Take for instance the time he took an army worth of army men and used firecrackers to simulate a real shelling. Melted most of the soldiers, destroyed a few tanks, and burned clear through his jeans. Not sure yet. BYU is a good option, but I've also gotten letters from MIT and Cal-Poly. Not sure which one I'll do yet... maybe BYU for generals, and another college for my degree. -
Start reading the Wheel of Time series. Each book is between 600 and 1000 pages, most of them closer to 1000. And there's 11 books in the series so far... if THAT doesn't keep you occupied, it means you didn't like the books enough to read them

Intelligence, like everything else, is relative. There are and will always be smarter people, in comparison to the rest of us stupid people.[/b]

Many people don't appreciate the beauty of the solar system. Its unknown, dangerous, and scary. Plus its a little hard to see without looking in *gasp!* science journals, and most people never will. But we are meant to be philisophical. What good is having a brain if you can't question your ability to use it?

The Great Stories of the Dynamic Duo Evo and Mitth

Sounds to me like I'd get along just fine with you two. Here's a fun one to do, works well for April Fool's day. Get some tape that matches the color of your sink's sprayer. For mine, that's black electrical tape. Anyway, tape the button down so that when somebody turns the sink on, it will spray. Position it so the tape is hard to see, and so that the sprayer is pointed at the most likely place they will be standing. I did this and got my dad just before he went to work at around 5:30AM one morning. He ended up having to change, being late for work... but best of all, a few weeks later he admitted it was a good prank! Another fun one is to start talking to yourself in public places. Usually it takes people a minute to figure out there's nobody there, but when they do you get some really great looks. Also fun is to wander around a mall making a weird noise. I got bored waiting for my sisters to finish shopping in one of the Salt Lake City malls. The result was my wandering around, quacking at people. This was before the Aflac duck, but I'd imagine that if you ran around sayijng "Aflac!" you'd get some good responces as well. -
SS? Haven't seen you in awhile. Though I wonder what your last post meant...

Not bad, not bad at all. Poetry is something I doubt I'll ever be good at, but I still appreciate good poems.

It's all Greek to me... Even if it is hopeless to try and get the source code, I'm trying anyway. A wise man once told me, "Fear of failure is the death of success." Perhaps not the most profound or moving quote, but its good enough for me. (plus, if by some fluke I did get the code, I'm guessing you'd all praise me until I was 168 years old! )

Just curious, how old were you back then Jahled?

Um, no. No no no no no. I thought I might try and actually create an original work, and not be like 99% of all other fantasy books out there and just rip off other people's stuff. In short: no elves. No mystical orbs and almighty swords. No alliances with dragons, no farmers who end up being kings. No perfect endings, and nobody is going to 'die' and then come back to life. And main characters will actually die, none of this 'magical, mystical aurora of almighty coolness' that means the bad guys can only hit a barn from ten feet away. Of course, I've read fantasy and sci fi books, and my writing will be influenced in part from what I've read. That's inescapable. My goal is to create something different. I'm making my own magic system, there are no other races (just humans), and at this point none of the main characters are farmers. Or related to farmers. Or have any relation to any farmers anywhere that might possibly turn into a king by the most unlikely series of events imaginable, including their turning out to be the long-lost heir or some kind of magic or sword-weilding god. (Not to say fantasy books like those are bad, but if I'm writing one, its not going to be like all of everybody elses. If I ever get time, I'll read the Stackpole books, as several people have recommended them to me and I just haven't done it yet.) Later on I'll post some background info and give you an idea of what the book is about...

One of the "Hi, I'm new here and you'll never ever see me again, but I'd like to know what the ranking system here is if I could? Oh, and I didn't bother to go looking for it anywhere, I thought I'd just ask instead..." types of threads. In my defense, it was listed not too long ago (Dec. '05). But that was still on page 60! I only looked through the first ten, then took the question to google. It wouldn't have taken long to find, but Tex found it first.

Yes, much. I hope your school as good anti-spam... Seriously though, I get maybe one spam message a week. And if I feel like not having any spam, I disable one of my aliases and get (no joke) one spam message a year. It's all in how you give out your addy...

Hey now, did you just call me a 'relative newbie'? I'm a Lt. Commander! Just kidding. I know what you meant, and I am a newbie. Perhaps not so much in post count, but in overall time here.
-
You- did you just... type your email, without any breaks...? And people wonder why they get spam... you'll be hit up by the first spider that runs along, and *bam* you're on somebody's spam list. Thanks for volunteering, hopefully it'll be fun to read. Anybody else? If enough people feel like it, I'll probably set up a mailing list of some sort. I'd just put it on a website, but if by some miracle the thing did end up good enough to publish, I could run into problems with it being up on the web.

Hey, I'd sign it... problem is, how do you sign something online? Couldn't you just make up names and say that they were people's signitures...? Plus, ol' George still wouldn't give us anything.

(Be sure to see my edit of a previous post above for a laugh) I was wondering if the 2000+ post count, make-up-your-own-title rule still held, as mentioned in the post I linked to. I assume since it's listed in a 2005 thread that this is the case. So... 1850 posts to go until I can be really cool. Only 1850...

*slaps forehead* Silly me, I left out critical information! I'm really into fantasy and sci fi novels, so I figured I'd go that route. I've already got some ideas for a fantasy book, so I'm starting there. In fact, I've already got most of the background worked out, I'm starting to work on the plot-line today.

Rewrite Rebellion? And I thought decompiling would be hard...

oooo, a quest! A mighty quest for information! (you know I'm bored when digging through old forum posts sounds exciting...) EDIT: In my search, I discovered a funny thread... what were some of the old guys like back when they first joined? Like this!
-
No way... Monster Rancher? Based off the old TV series? That has to be the wackiest cartoon I've ever seen and actually liked enough to watch! I always wondered if the game was any good. Maybe I'll give it a shot.
-
Just wondering if there's a list of all the ranks and the post-count required to get there... I can't seem to find it in a sticky or the forum FAQ.

Ouch, that doesn't look like it felt very good.
