I was just wondering everybodies thoughts about how the situation would be if it was Yuuzhan Vong vs Emperor, Vader and the Empire at the height of its powers. As opposed to what really happened with Yuuzhan Vong vs New Republic Me personally I've no real idea but I might be inclined to suggest the Empire would have fared better if for no other reason than Palpatine and Vader probably using the Dark Side heavily. Even though Yuuzhan Vong can't be touched by the force. Just curious to hear thoughts.

Scathane? Must you? I mean really common. I posted the earlier post (which you replied to yet again in an overly aggressive fashion) to get across to you that my comment in regards to POV was not intended to state that you denied others theres. I was trying to get across that that was all that I meant. Everybody has a POV and thats cool. No undertones, no nothing, just that. So can we now move along?
-
Well this topic has had its shelf life. Scathane the only comment you've made I'll address now is the remark in regards to my comment about POV. You appear to wish to twist that to your own mindset. What I mean was we all have differing POV's, thats it. Nothing else. As such this topic is pretty much dead anyways. What one says somebody else will dissagree with and I'm not here to force views on anybody and I suspect neither is anybody else. So topic's dead for me now. In short Rebels suck Imperials rule.
-
Scathane we each have our POV's which is cool. But not to stir the pot some more the last thing i'll say in reply to what you posted is pretty simple. The emperor with the whole force lightning stuff. Thats just part of SW. Basic fact, can't ever be changed and...its like calling the sky blue. What i was referring to was the plausability of what the rebellion had taking the shield gen on Endor. It was just implausable. As for the emperors lightning yes implausable too but in the context of SW its just fact. Hrm i'm running in circles. Basically the force lightning shindig is just part of the SW universe, simple cannon law. But a small crew of rebels overpowering a battalion is in the real world implausable and in the context of SW also far fetched. If Leia for example was supposed to have powers of mind control in the SW universe and thats how they got the base then i'd be cool with that simply because in terms of SW its plausable. If you get my meaning...

Forgot to add this part in support of Point 2. Did anybody HONESTLY buy the premise that Han Solo, Leia, Chewie, two sexually questionable driods and a few rag tag army wannabes could take a security sealed bunker from an entire battalion of hardened (apparently according to what was said "my best troops") supported by AT-AT's? Oh I almost forgot, and a small army of unwashed native's with 'sticks and stones'.

So gotta jump in on this discussion. Two points and two points only. 1. Palpatine = best Sith Lord that ever lived with MAYBE the exception of Plagueis or Exar Kun. But considering as we've got more to go on with Palpatine then its sorta a no-brainer. Anywho the reason in my opinion why Palpatine didn't sense Vader's intent to dump him unceremoniously down the chute was simply that it was a split decision. Vader had absolutely no intention, was 100% loyal to his Master but given the circumstances Vader just made a split second decision that couldn't be felt, forseen or otherwise by Palpatine. Sort of how Anakin made that split second decision to slice off Mace's hand. It could have easily gone the other way. 2. In the Star Wars universe at least nothing sh*ts me more than the Rebels (not new republic always rebels) win everything (and in some cases of poor writting or poor directing depending on your medium either books or movies) they win by ridiculous plot twists that leave you honestly asking wtf? But aside from that what has seeped out through all SW literature and the movies is that when the Imperials are on their game...not GREAT but just on their game (ie not drunk) the rebellion gets tactically manhandled every single time. The whole literature and movies are dedicated to the rebels winning but they only win in situations it appears where the Imperials are flat out disorganised and running around like lunatics. All it takes is some order and a leader who isn't insane and the imperials start romping it over the rebellion yet again. Point in fact Thrawn, and subsequently Grodin Tierce in the 2nd set of books. In both circumstances the Empire was weaker by far, had its ass handed to it many a time but soon as some resemblance of order is restored the rebellion gets owned. THey only ever win through Imperial instabilities or just crackpots that lead them. Oh and aside from that Palpatine 1v1 would have totally fried Luke back to that backwater planet he calls home. Er...seems i got carried away with myself but my 2 cents.

Nevermind people. CHeers for any responses. I figured out the problem. Or at least not so much figured it out as bumbled across the solution mostly by just trial and error. I turned off the win95 emulation on the shortcut and put it back to normal XP and low and behold the game detected the joystick then...despite many posts saying tie fighter only works in XP either win95 emulated or with a lot of tweaking. So i dunno. My only guess in regards to the joystick is because its logitech it says on the box win98, nt, me, 2000, xp but not 95. So my best guess is logitech was never designed to work with win95 so when the program was emulating win95 there was no way it was ever going to find it. So i just kinda got lucky. Works fine. I'm captain now, with a nice shiny medal and secord circle of emperor worship secret cult thing =p

Well i went out and grabbed myself a Logitech Attack 3 joystick because I want to play the Tie Collectors Edition badly. However having gotten the joystick. Successfully installed it I am yet AGAIN faced with the same problem. The damn game has 2 distinct ways of jumping into it. TIE95.exe and TIESTART.exe tiestart gives you options like calibrate your joystick etc, install directx 5.2 and so on. So i go into calibrate joystick. Program tells me i've got Logitech Attack 3 joystick already set now and it says connection is OK. So fine. Game says i've got the joystick sweet. So i jump over to desktop to launch my shortcut to TIE95.exe which just flat out jumps you into the game and i've made the shortcut run the game in Win95 environment. ANywho previously without the joystick the game would say MAKE SURE YOUR JOYSTICK IS PLUGGED IN and so forth cos I can't play the game without it and it won't even let me jump in. So considering as the game already said I HAD the joystick and its connected via USB port and all is fine i jump on the shortcut for some gaming. Behold! The game tells me MAKE SURE YOUR JOYSTICK IS PLUGGED IN needless to say it IS f*cking plugged in. So what gives? Plus when i try and launch Tie Fighter via the TIESTART.exe it tells me i MUST install directx5.2 or progress no further. I try to install it but it won't install full stop because apparently Direct3D is not installed. Well hence why i'm trying to isntall it but it doesn't do jack. It just refuses me. Hence i just forked 35 odd bucks on a joystick and the game who says its there conveniently chooses to ignore its own advice. So what gives?

You guys have probably already seen this. I figure most people have but just incase you haven't. I present Darth Vulgar http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view.php?id=42415 I always find this amusing every few weeks. Just incase you haven't seen it its quite amusing.

Hey seeming as I'm starting to firmly come back into the Imperial Fold i thought I'd go er...grab myself a copy of Tie Fighter. Anywho fortunately it wasn't too hard to come by. The only massive annoyance is it won't let me play without a damn Joystick. I got the Tie Fighter collector's edition. Anywho it refuses to let me even enter the game unless I have a joystick. Which I don't and I'm not entirely inclined to go get one because I've enver had problems playing games like this with the mouse. So I was wondering if anybody knew how to bypass this problem specifically. I looked around on google but got nothing.

Yeah just come to the boards in the last week but MAN. This story has got to be the SWEETEST story i've ever read in terms of SW outside of the original Thrawn Trilogy. And not including what i consider to be the total dissapointment the Hand of Thrawn 2 books were. Anyways this story is sweet as, as mentioned outside of the original trilogy i've read...a few star wars books, less than most because I usually only pick the bigger sellers rather than the more esoteric ones. So you've so gotta post more as soon as you can. I posted all your posts into a text file and printed it off 22 pages in all to read at the end of the night. I have an innate aversion to reading stories at the computer =p But sweet story the best i've ever seen. Goes beyond fan fiction here and is totally novel worthy.

Starwars games PS2, Xbox, PC. Curious about the difference
angelus512 replied to angelus512's topic in General Discussion
strategy games almost exclusively. Rebellion, civilization series, warcraft etc. Although i also do rather like the look of games such as revenge of the sith and i did enjoy Tie Fighter in the old days etc. -
Hey seems like i'm posting a lot of questions hope nobody minds. Anyways my computer is about oh 2001 vintage now i'd say. Not capable of playing any of the new games anymore and in truth I sorta stopped gaming altogether around 2002 or there abouts for various reasons. Anyways as such this whole Xbox, PS2 vs PC thing has totally passed me by. I just went to the lucasarts site and to my pleasure it seems there are some pretty sweet looking SW games I'd rather like to get my hands on. I think one of the reasons i stopped gaming is in between 2002 and now from my POV there hasn't been anything worth wanting to play. My general interest centers around star wars and warcraft essentially. Anyways i noticed that a game like Revenge of the Sith was available on PS2, Xbox and PC. Now the real important central core of my question is whats the damn difference? Considering as one of the reasons i fell away from gaming was the constant prohibative cost of upgrading your PC always. But with PS2's and Xbox's around nowdays the cost comparatively is fairly low for what APPEARS to be good quality. SO in short my question which I'm hoping you all can answer is what is the difference for games these days in terms of whether A) You buy the pc version B) xbox version C) ps2 version or is the game EXACTLY the same for each platform nowdays? Because my way of thinking was the PC > * when it comes to gaming with depth and complexity. Wherehs PS2 and Xbox was always centered around pretty graphics but incapable because of the nature of the platform of making the game into a complex multifaceted thing. Least thats what i always thought but without ever asking. So if somebody could set me straight on whats the deal these days please do.

Anyways went to the download section got PTESB. Very good I didn't know until yesterday that this game could even be remotely modded. I remember back in the day I went looking for mods but there weren't any at the time so I just figured there never would be. Anyways i notice the AI is a bit more aggressive. Still got its major flaws as usual. Don't know the style of game you guys play but me I like ot think of my style as turtle style essentially. I systematically move from planet to planet and sector to sector taking 1 planet at a time, building 2 GenCore 2's, dipolmacy to bring support to 100% then move onto the next planet. In this fashion the AI can rarely invade planets i've taken from them, cept in the earlier stages where they seem to have better luck with sabotage. And i roam with a fleet of say oh 3 SSD's 4 ISD2's and various support craft. Never come across an AI grouping large enough to take me out, which is sorta a pitty. Makes the game bit too easy to win. All you gotta do is in the later stages dump all your ships in the same fleet and bam the universe is yours. Course the alternative being split them up into smaller fleets but why would you do that when you are almost guaranteed of a firey death when an AI fleet comes across you. So its sorta either 1 or the other if you get me. Anywho the question I wanted to ask was whats up with PTESB. I sorta read a few posts and various things here and there. In the Info system in rebellion it starts talking about The Protectorate etc etc. And people are posting about The Protectorate. I was specifically confused by the Imperial Nova Destroyer. Mentions the protectorate can build ISD2's and VSD2's. Now i dunno what the protectorate is because PTESB for me at least doesn't have a story at all. Well at least it doesn't insofar as I don't read the encyclopedia all that much. So if there is supposed to be dialogue when playing this TC mod i've clearly installed it wrong and somebody point that out that'd be sweet. But anywho my guess is the protectorate is some sort of rebellion sect etc. But i was more interested in the ISD2 and VSD2 building capabilities. Because it says so but...i've not seen the AI build these imperial ships once. Anywho just a bit of light on PTESB would be cool cheers. I've jumped on this modding TC scene a good few years too late i'm starting to notice. Used to be an RDB II forum but i notice thats gone oto. Oh and i have apparently PTESB version 2.4 it said if that helps. And every time i exhaust research of ships it tells me Download RDB II research exhausted. Is it supposed to say that?

Hey everybody, been playing rebellion on the off and on ever since it was first released. Love the game, just installed it all over again now because I can't get enough SW at the current time. Anyways I just have quite a few questinos for you all and having read a few pages of the board they don't seem to be answered or worse yet pose new questions. 1. I've never lost a single game nor do I find it even remotely hard to win. (i play on expert level usually on medium galaxy sometimes small). I always play Imperial cos the rebels just don't attract me at all. But my point is that i NEVER lose. By the time i've got about oh 7-10 imperial star destroyers built sure the rebels might have a force about the same size or larger but for some obscure reason they seperate that force oftentimes into small easily destroyable groups. Plus sometimes the rebel fleets just dissapear for the entire game. One minute i've got an entire sector under siege from say 4 mon cals, and various support ships. Next 30mins later they've just left the sector and I never ever see that fleet again....ever. And i remember ship names. Yet having read ur posts it seems most of you play challenging games where the enemy comes at you with big ass fleets etc. 2. In all my games I've played as Imperial side I've only RARELY discovered a force user jedi. Like say 1/100 games played. Yet you all seem to have this occur to you quite frequently with discovering jedi etc. 3. I've never in my entire time of playing the game had a traitor. Not once. Least not that I know of. Which begs the question how do you know you have a traitor? And if you don't know but you can DISCOVER a potential traitor what are the signs and ways to do it? I've no idea. And the concept of traitors in the game adds a dimension i'd like. 4. Just generally how come the alliance is so damn dumb. Even on expert by turn 500 say the game is essentially mine and proves not worth playing anymore. If the alliance hasn't got me on the run or wiped me good by turn 200-300 then i can usually say its on the way out for the rebels. I mean i remember this one particular game I had just yesterday. I had 3 core systems. Thats it. The alliance had 1 core system but almost all the outpost systems mainly for resources and such. Now i had 2 large fleets One was 1 SSD 2 ISD2 3 ISD 2 Victory 2 and the other about the same minus SSD. now with these 2 fleets i just roamed around the galaxy invading planets but not once did i encounter a BIG FAT alliance fleet of overwhelming numbers. Despite the fact the alliance had like 60% of the galaxy under thumb. What gives? And if ur all wondering how i play then its probably the same as all you. every sector I have has only 4 types of planets. 1 type is just resources and what not thats all which means every sector has 3 planets that are 1x Shipyard only planet 1x construction only planet 1x troop building planet and the rest are all just resource planets. In this manner i can build everything really really really fast. But i imagine its mostly the way the rest of you play. But in short, WHY am i winning so damn damn easily and not really having a fight put up AT ALL?
