  1. The number of planets is good another 10 or 20 would be nice though. Diplomacy and unit experience I don't think are that huge of factors at least not for me. He is right about the ships, though; I think someone even said something to the effect of a lot of units make the game LESS FUN? That's idiotic and contrary to any other thinking human being's mental processes. More units make the game fun because fleets are more diverse and it means you can't just spam Star destroyers or Mon Cal cruisers. Which if they are the standard ships means they are less powerful or they aren't as special as they should be. You wouldn't station a bunch of star destroyers to protect planets that aren't strategically important or exactly critical to your war effort. You build your early fleets around a couple of star destroyers with dreadnaughts and fleet carriers then later have like 10 destroyers to have bigger fleets when you have a larger industrial base. I'm glad the game will be so moddable so people can fix a lot of the inadquecies that are starting to pop up. Blame whoever you want for them Lucasarts, Petroglyth, or god doesn't matter because we will be able to fix them or at least most of them.
  2. No, worries yo. Good point about it not running on any regular computer I can handle that explination, but a bunch of garbage about doing to many things at once is ridiculous. We are on the same page I just don't let myself get to hyped up about games like this because they always fail to meet my high expectations. I just would really like this game to be great like earlier lucas arts games and like the first C&C and StarCraft RTS's. You know a legendary game that people willl be playing 10 years from now.
  3. Grand Admiral Thrawn 889, Hey, I want this to be a fun game and have it live up to all my expectations, but I don't think it wll okay. Some of the things I would like to see in it are not going to be there, but made someone can mod them in. Hopefully, Petroglyth's kits that will be released later will allow me to change the game to my taste. I just don't like the way that some of the devolopments are going as we learn more about the actual game not just rumors and hopes. Im sure everyone here is a fan of the game or they would not be here, but that doesn't mean we can voice displeasure over things we don't like about it. Yes, I will still get this game because I am a big star wars nerd and love most of the stuff related to it. Im still going to voice my distaste over some of the things I think would make the game better, but are not in the game. Here is the best place to do it becaues you never know it may change something. Im not here to flame so don't treat me like Im just trying to stir up trouble. Im just trying voice my opinion same as you are. Anyway don't you think that mutiple battles at the sametime would be cool!!! Missions will be fun Im sure, but what I really want and what I think most people want is the 2 player galactic conquest portion.
  4. Well it depends if corvette's suck like they did in Rebellion, but they can probably defeat something in this game. That broadside cruiser is it considered a corvette because it sounds like a good ship with the long range missle attack. Also, they are good filler and cannon fodder for a fleet. So yeah probably I'd have a few to soak up some enemy fire and to sacrifice themselves for the glory of the Empire. Hey Lando!!
  5. I like how they constantly put down the multiple battles question with "We do not want to distract you", and "We want the player to consentrate on one tactical situation". (Your an idiot so we don't want you to think to hard) Basicly, We could've made a great game, but decided not too. We took out all extra layers of game play that could have took this game to the next level. This game will be fun but it will be mundane, (Rebellion 2.0), the game is in 3D but no 3D combat, and you can't attack someone on multipule fronts forcing them to do many things at once. Heroes will be overpowered to the extreme with one counter. Oh well at least you can name the ships thank god for small favors.
  6. Battle for Middle Earth was hurt by the respawnable hero units so I hope they stay dead. Also, that way I can send all the over powered hero units off to one planet to do battle and kill them all. Hey Lando,
  7. Well it probably has to be one at a time. Most comps will struggle with this game anyways so putting 2 battles on at the same time will lag the game out. It would be the height of cool if the game does allow you to switch between 2 battles and allow you to go to the galactic map to bring in more fleets to on going battles. I have been wondering this; How many ground battles do you have to fight to take a planet? Also, I was wondering how deep a planetary system is? Like the Death Star takes a while to come into range of a planet. Could a battle take place far away from a planet and progress inward towards the planet? Like the Battle for Coruscant in Star by Star. If yes, could an invading fleet form up on the boundries of an enemy system say a few ships at a time, or 2 opposing fleets build up in a neutral system? This would add depth to the strategy of space battle. (Hey, Lando)
  8. In the Thrawn trilogoy it seems to mean that the interdictors can focuse their gravity wells like when he uses them to drop the Vic's in so close to rebel ships. Usually you would want the full effect of the cone to keep enemy fleets from escaping, but sometimes a narrowly define cone would be useful. If the Rebels don't have an interdictor class then that would be a serious balance issue. The empire could always escape if it was out gunned, but the rebels couldn't making that side much weaker.
  9. I agree the Death Star is worthless if it can't carry fighters and ground units at the very least. Better off spending the money on more Star Destroyers. Its not a gamebreaker cause the other side can blow it up with a single fighter. Hopefully they will make the Death Star a battle arena where its surface weaponry will come into play. It is designed for "large scale assults". But if its just a planet destroying resource waste. Then why even bother building it. P.S. Put in the ablitiy to name the damn ships and fleets. Its a small request that should be easy to do.
  10. I followed nintendo until the demise of the 64 and never ventured into game cube territory. The xbox was just so dominant and it still is because the online is the best. The new controller design has possiblities but they will be hard to follow through with like lightsaber battles and Legend of zelda first person style. Could be great but could suck horribly only time will tell.
  11. Favorite games of all times NES, easy Mario 1,2,3, Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Mega Man, Contra and Ninja Turtles. Oh yeah North and South first civil war RTS game ever. SNES; Mario World, Link to the Past, Doom, Super Metroid, TMNT:TNT, and Super Contra. N64; We all know the good ones for this they are timeless unlike the system and 90% of all the other games for it. PC; X-wing and Tie Fighter series, Rebellion, Battlegrounds, and Rise of Nations, PS. I saw somebody couldnt get Tie Fighter to work on XP. I got it to work there should be a compadiblity wizard you go to and it will give the different versions of windows to match up with the game and then you can play this awsome game. Which by the way how stupid is Lucas Arts not to update it and release it again. It is by far their best work and probably will be for a long time comming.
  12. Hey, guys Im pretty new to the forums but I got Rebellion and I have never played a game against a real person seems like it would be fun if you got 8 hours to kill. Im down if anyone wants to. To those of you who have just got into it, I always play empire but the rebels are almost the same except you should attack early not late. Mainly fighters are your best freind in this game. Once the Empire gets defenders its almost over because none of the Imps other fighers have shields and defenders are the best. Thing I do early is build nothing but fighter carriers and dreadnaughts because it takes to long to build anything else and fighters can destroy captial ships with no fighter screens (horrible balance problem but oh well). Get you recruit people working over time getting all the characters and research people researching everything. Then I'll specailize plantets like dump a bunch of shipyards at one, troop facilites at another, and contruction plantes. All other planets are rescource planets that support your empire. Get one of the stupid troop ships (these things are useless because your capital ships carry all the troops you need) they give you at the beginning and start scouting the unknown regions to take over the planets( diplomats are good for the netural planets), probe droids are good 10 of them to scout whole systems at once and find out which planets you should colonize first. Speciallize each planet shipyards on one planet etc I like one planet to have a couple of each to build fighters and do repairs if need it. Like nine advance shipyards can spit out ImpII Destroyers in nothing flat. Death Star is a gimmick weapon but is fun better to spend the money on more star destoryers. I usually build sector fleets in all the systems I control usually consist of 2-3 fighter carriers, 3-4 star destroyers of various types, and a interdictor. The comp will raid you like a bastard. Planetary guns are worthless in this game because they only destroy ships if the player does a planetary bombardment and no real person is that stupid I just destroy all of them best defense are 2 shield generators and 3-4 ground units and sector fleet to protect a system. Resource management is best left to the comp just click the annoying robot and tell him to manage the resources, but make sure you have all the stuff you need on a planet because he will fill it up with mines and refineries. Finally, A couple of fleets to march over the rebels. Usually fully loaded with SSD's, ImpII's, VicII's, Figher Carriers and tons of Defenders. Lancer, Strike cruisers are useless for their cost trust me they can not hit fighters and suck at taking on Rebel captial ships. One of the best aspects of this game and I hope they put it in EAW is naming the ships and fleets. If you ahve enough fleets you run out of names quickly, especially if you try to speciallize them like with interdictors. Sorry for the length of this post, but that's my overall veiw on stratgey in this game. Oh and natural disaters suck a big one. Should have been able to turn those off. I got the next couple of days off if anyone wants to get a game on. It would be interesting to play against a real person.
  13. If you remember the Imperials looked down on Alien races, and the reason Thrawn is a Grand Admiral is that he was a brilliant strategist, plus they shipped him off to the Unknown Regions. The Imperial sentiment was that aliens were inferior and had no business in the Imperial hierarchy. Yeah, but now that we have episode III the novelization we can get from it that Palpatine did not really hate aliens, but used them as pawns to get the galaxy under his control. By making all the seperatists aliens he could get the more populous humans of the galaxy to distrust them later when he consolidated his power. So Thrawn comes along helps Palpatine destory Outbound Flight, (as far as we know bc Zahn will make all clear in Febuary, wow that's going to be a great month to be SW fan), and displays his tactical genious. Why not put him in the game. A great story twist in the game would be you kill the emperor and darth vader, then Thrawn comes back from the unknown regions and you get to fight the Thrawn triology campaign. Hey, Its Lando.   14. Hero ships are lame it should be you put a special captian or admiral on a ship to give an attack or defense boast. I hope they put in being able to name the ships rather than having a bunch of hero ships flying around, and make it so where you can turn heroes off. Having some ships named and others not is kinda stupid because why wouldn't the other ships have names.
  15. Well roll or yaw the ship on its y axis. I have not seen the video for that yet I will look for it. If it is a hero ability then that would be gay becuase there should not be a special power for something the ship does anyway.
  16. You mentioned earlier to roll the star destroyer. Can they even roll in this 2d enviorment?
  17. Will there be Dreadnaughts in EaW? Building the Katana fleet and using it to crush the Rebels or Imperials would be awsome. And they would be key to make a good Thrawn campaign scenaio.
  18. Is there a complete list of charaters I have been trying to find one? Are Thrawn and Pellaeon going to be in the game? I want them and the Chimarea to crush the rebellion once and for all.
  19. Has it been certain whether or not you can name ships because in one photo it has a Star Destroyer labled "Imperial Star Destroyer" and in the next photo down it is labled "The Accuser". I assume others have noticed this so please let me know if this is possible. I hope so.
  20. Okay, If you dont mind me asking what are the fire powers for the Star Destroyers? I saw you down graded the fire power on the Executer in v29 from v28. I just want to know because I wiped out his feet of MC's with like 6 Victory I's the other day because of there high attack power. The game right now seems to us tilted towards the alliance. They're star fighters are better and the majority of the ships cheaper and better armor than the Empire. The exception being the Victory I and both sides have the gunships which are cheap and deal out lots of damage for the price. Thanks for the response eville, I apperciate it
  21. Im new to this forum but have been playing the mod with my roomate for a while. So I'll say thanks to eviljedi. Its a great mod and you deserve all the credit you've gotten for it. But my question is and I've been looking for an answer to this on all the forums and haven't seen one. Why do all the star destroyers have such low attack powers? The victory I has the highest and ships like the Domiator and Imp III have attack powers listed as 0. Is this just a type-0 on the screen or is it there current attack listing because you haven't changed it yet? Because my roomate plays as the rebs and builds a bunch of heavy corellian gunships and pounds my fleets. Thanks for any feed back.
