Ah yes, the SSD. Recently I fought a battle where both sides had so many ships that I was able to fire off 2 laser shots from my DS before the 2 fleets began to engage each other.

Hey Cain, what's it mean when it says "String Too Long: Truncated" -
I remember it saying somewhere that you can't destroy a DS unless you are using fighters.

It's best to cut the AI's construction costs down so that they can attempt to pose a challenge. By doing that, I find they build massive fleets but still do not build any gravity well ships to prevent me from retreating.... sigh

Hah well I just like to have them cruising around the galaxy supported by a large fleet. Not so much blowing up a planet but if you combine them with a few Victory II's, you can blow through any defenses. And yes Defenders seem like the best choice to defend DS's. Obviously because they are called defenders heheh. Probably why the manual specifically suggests that you use them when they become available.

Yes but rebel fighters start in space already. So they can immediately attack the DS. Imperial fighters still have to launch from their ships so being able to muster enough fighters to prevent the rebels from getting close enough to the DS is hard too. Heh.

I guess I'll conclude that it helps to have overwhelming numbers of fighters but in the end it is random.

Yeah simulating battles is much less fun then fighting them out. But I'm using the DS to attack so shields are impossible.

I've been playing this game for years but I never figured out how you defend a Death Star in combat. The manual says that you need to have alot of fighters [obviously]. But I just fought a battle against a large Rebel fleet where I had around 120 fighters. They had significantly less, around 40 or so. But they still were able to destroy my death star. Then I went back and simulated the battle and the Death Star wasnt destroyed. Then I went back again and played the battle myself and the Death Star wasnt destroyed. Im lost. Is it random?
