  1. Yes, from books I've read, Fondor and Sluis Van fell relatively earlier. Also, there must of been mass defections and multiple uprisings. It was said that the Imperial Navy's and Army's finest young cadets were aboard the Executor when it went down, something the Imperials never recovered from. The Imperial fighter strategy was to be superior in numbers. They are very inexpensive and easy to make. The TIE Defender was the ultimate starfighter, however, mass production of this was kept back by imperial admirality, who were afraid that having a TIE capable of hyperspace would mean a slash in orders for TIE carriers (princiably the ISDs). Just goes to show beaurcracy played its part in bringing the imps down. Later the Scimeter (sp?) bomber out did the B-Wing (post-Endor), and also there was the 'Missile Boat' for the Computer game TIE Fighter, which certainly out did the B-Wing, and this was pre-Endor. I read that the Rebs captured two ISDs, several defected and most retreated. I'm supposing seeing the DS2 blow, losing the communication ship and seeing Lord Vaders flagship and pride of the Navy go down would have given them a serious shaking, and aided in miss communication. Also, they wouldn't know if the Emperor had died or not and if their orders to not engage still stood or not. I'm sure they would of lost a fair few ISDs before they decided to fully engage, couple that with defections and outright withdrawls and the Imperial Fleet was devastated.
  2. ahhhhh....lemme have it, lemme have it!
  3. Read this thread at GameDev.net forums for more information on the difficulties of using GMAX to make models (.gmax is an encrypted format as vendors pay money for their 'game packs'...) Also, look here as this person seems to be making a GMAX .3ds exporter (not yet released though....) Lastly, I would recommend forgetting about GMAX and learn Blender instead. Its free, Open Source and has a guzillion free exporters littered around the web... GOOD LUCK!
  4. Hey I wouldn't mind being a 'Star Wars Historian' or 'Net Tracker' (same thing..??) as I love delving into the Star Wars canon..
  5. All of that would tend to support Zahn's version, that the Imperial Officers and Crew were essentially imbeciles and uncoordinated masses once the Emporer was gone, or at least distracted with Skywalker. Also gives some backing for the Seat of Power Effect in Rebellion. I always believed this theory, as, lets face it, pretty much the entire rebel fleet was present at Endor, with only a few ships missing, and the empire had at least 24,000 ISDs. Thats not mentioning VSDs and the hundreds of thousands of smaller support vessels (It states in my Star Wars mag from way back, quoting from the Imperial Sourcebook and Galaxy Guides, that a typical sector fleet has 24 ISDs and around 2000 capital-size support vessels). It is IMPOSSIBLE, with or without an Emperor, for the Rebellion to take it down as quickly as it did, unless the Emperor did have a strong mental hold on them, and they were simply uncoordinated when he didn't.
  6. This is brilliant!
  7. Cheers Mask. If I run into problems, I'll PM you as you say. The Mods a long way off, but, don't worry, when its out, it'll be posted here. Catch y'all later //luckless666
  8. Do we have an ETA on that? to Mask: Hey, just wanted your permission in using some of your models in a MOD. You'll be given full credit for all the ones i use and a link to your site in the readme.txt but just wanted your permission first..
  9. Sounds pretty complicated. Remember, KotOR was a WHOLE game based around that, whereas the characters in this are just a tiny aspect. It would probably have to be more simplified, such as no classes (just the ability to become admiral, commander etc) level8 cap on characters... In fact, the more i think about it, Reb already had levels, just that they were transparent, ie your diplomacy increased with every success etc. I don't really see the need for such a system to be overcomplicated. The only thing I see of use is perhaps a 4-level system for ship\regiment experience, making them better (perhaps making them stronger, shoot faster, move faster etc.)
  10. At the making of the film, it probably had no purpose other than it looked good. after that, i wouldnt know..
  11. i remember i had corcuscant defended by just fighters, though it was something like 55-60 TIE Defender squadrons. The rebs jump in with by no means small fleet (at least two Bulwarks).... and instantly turn tail and retreat! Is this a hiccup in the AI? [EDIT] I also remember this time (i would love to make a story about this, it was really good at the time but it was 5+ years ago, and would have to think it through before commiting it to paper\computer screen) which demonstrates how dumb the AI can be. I'd captured Luke quite late in the game and Darth Vader took him to see the Emperor (on a side note, does look ever turn?) Luke managed to defeat both of them and escaped!!! needless to say the Empire was on high alert, and, Grand Admiral Thrawn was appointed Regent. Much of the surrounding Sector fleets commited a portion of their ships to the protection of Coruscant, whom was the last bastion of the empire before it fell. It was luckily due to the efforts of an Imperial Intelligence officer working in the field that discovered the location of the captured Emperor and Darth Vader (for some reason, and this is the problem with the AI, they were kept on the same planet!) Thrawn actted quickly, and ordered several seperate fleets to rendevous at a nearby planet to the Emperors location. In all, there was three SSDs (thats all i remember, but i think there were around 10 ISD IIs, 6 VSDs, 15 Carracks, and a full compliment of fighters and troops) Needless to say a mighty armada, and what should they face? what had the cunning rebels put up to defend the captured leaders of the empire? Two X-wing squadrons. Admiraly, the engaged my fighters and needless to say they were wiped out. Planetary bombardment ensued and finally a Full Legion of Dark Troopers descended onto the planet and freed the Emperor. Bit of a long winded way of saying how stupid the AI is to leave the emperor and darth vader in the same place and then defend them with a total of two X-wing squadrons!?
  12. I just want to make sure that everyone knows the site staff is NOT developing this game. We are relying on other programmers who volunteer their time to develop a game which we can modify. I believe that an open source project would be a good idea if there is organization and communication. Good luck! Sourceforge.net has good tools for open source project. though a generic title would probably have to be used (though they do host the files of a PHP based star wars game). If people are patient though (err... yeah, how long a go was rebellion released again?) that FreeOrion game i mentioned elsewhere on this forum has just released their very much pre-alpha version of the game. This Open Source game is designed to be very moddable from the ground up (sound like an infommercial, dont i???). Take a look if you haven't already
  13. I've visited masked site and downloaded all the tools i think. whats this screen capture tool? Can't you just press print screen, alt-shift out, open up a gfx app and paste it as a new image? Long way round i know.
  14. Well, Dark Side, you bring Bastila over to you, as your student. You slaughter the two other Jedi in your party. On returning to the Ebon Hawk, whats his name (the Republican Soldier guy) runs off, and you kill the wookie and the twilek girl. So all thats left is you, the two droids, and Bastila. You then battle through, persuading some Jedi your on their side still, Bastila leaves you at the Control room, and uses her Battle Meditation for the Sith, NOT the Republic. You then go kill Malak, and before he dies he realises you are the real Sith Lord, and he should never have betrayed you. Yeah, the Rodian. Thats the one. I think you got something for every kill, then you should recieve a big reward (as in a special weapon) at the end. You were right not to do it, you recieved Dark Side points for each kill. Another thing: Whats peoples theories on what happened to Malaks jaw??
  15. Well, they are putting in characters, though its hotly debated. The engine will be highly moddable (from the source up) so you guys can add a card system with little or no bother. Make it a community project. Though i warn you, FreeOrion v1.0 will probably take a few years at least. But then, an officaila reb2 aint gonna happen...
