GeorgeLucasmustdie Posted January 11, 2004 Posted January 11, 2004 What is your ultimate rebellion strategy?
SWR Staff - Executive Evaders99 Posted January 12, 2004 SWR Staff - Executive Posted January 12, 2004 I don't think people who have an 'ultimate' strategy would give this away. Alas, I have no ultimate strategy.. only what my experiences guides me to do in any sort of situation Evaders99http://swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif Webmasterhttp://swrebellion.com/images/banners/swcicuserbar.png Administrator Fighting is terrible, but not as terrible as losing the will to fight.- SW:Rebellion Network - Evaders Squadron Coding -The cake is a lie.
TK421 Posted January 12, 2004 Posted January 12, 2004 My strategy is:Only win spacebattles. My shiny new clean ships will not be used against too strong opponents. That is not what the ships are for. They are for parades! To see what my diplomats and sabotars have done with my new planet. Z'anthr saves the world. Sorry about the mess...
Vong Posted January 15, 2004 Posted January 15, 2004 Yes, the game is heavly based upon the space battles. if you win all of thoes, you will most probably win, if you dont skrew up that is...
XeqtR Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 depends, space battles fighters are the key, and just to overall dominate just go around destroying planetary resources seems to be the best way to win these days :/
Shadow_of_Thrawn Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 the best strategy seems to be to know your enemies...which in the case of the AI is to just be aweful....just so I could see the the movie when you lose I went around leveling my own planets the other day until the only system i controlled was coruscant....and it still took the AI a while to realize all it had to do was walk right in.
Cain Posted January 18, 2004 Posted January 18, 2004 I usualy win the game in the first 100 days .....you chek for the planets with problems and go with some ships and two caracters or 3 and kill some imperial army reg or bombard them if they don't have shields.....and the sistem is mine .....or you spy and capture the researchers this will be an wining advantage...this is the best strategy Shadow_of_Thrawn I quote "...which in the case of the AI is to just be aweful........and it still took the AI a while to realize all it had to do was walk right in." Play Imperial/expert/medium galaxy/HQ victory in the Protectorate and tell me in wich day you defeted the AI ......1500....2000 ?!... or maybe you get lucky... - The Trivium Organization - Community Manager -- Petroglyph Fan Forums - CoAdmin & Human Resources Manager -

LordVader Posted January 21, 2004 Posted January 21, 2004 Defend what you have successfully. Don't underestimate the power of fighters. Use the capital ships wisely, don't waste them. I once started a game against a human opponent, by day 600 I had only built two ships, a Bulk Cruiser and a CC-3700 Frigate. I started off with 1 Bulk Cruiser, 3 Corvettes and 2 Medium Transports- still had all of them by day 500. My opponent had at least 5 Imperial Star Destroyers. Only build things you need (yes that means the die hard Imperial Players, do you really need Death Stars? Use special forces to gather intelligence, even on your own systems. Try to anticipate the opponents moves and keep tabs on their ships/fleets. Use your characters and improve their skills, they play a big part in winning or losing. Try to capture the opponents characters. Target the opponents resources, without resources, no-one can win and it slows people down. "You don't know the power of the dark side. I must obey my master." - Vader
Chimera Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 My tendencies run toward the rebellion style of play. Which is unfortunate, 'cause I love those shiny triangles the Empire gets. I sneak around, blow stuff up, cause chaos, and watch the dominos fall as all of the planets come to me. Then I desperately put all my resources into shielding my planets before the Empire can nuke me back to the stone age. I don't bother with fleets until I am close to Interdictor technology. What's the point of watching everyone run away? Again... and again... Bleh. I tries upping the tractor beam strength with Rebed, and it works sometimes (you snag a ship) but not others. Dunno why... Texas_Fett Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 I've posted elsewhere what my overall strategy (from a Rebel point of view) is. However, in the tactical game, I think there is an area that people often overlook. And that area is...{drum-roll, please}...the best deployment options for your capital ships based on their preferred firing arc. When you go into combat, most people simply use the default "Stand off" setting and watch as the two opposing forces line up across from each other like the battle formations of the 1700 & 1800's and wail away at each other. Now, this tactic works well, if you have enough ships and if you're the Empire. If you're the Rebellion, you are grossly mismanaging your fleet, as evidenced by individual ship captains that turn their craft so they can deliver a broadside. If you look at the statistics of each type of ship in your (Rebel) fleet, you will see that their strength lies in delivering broadside barrages (i.e., the largest Turbolaser/Ion ratings are for the Port/Starboard arcs; there are five Rebel craft with Turbolaser ratings >100 in their P/S arcs: Mon Cal, Assault Frigate, CC-9600, Dauntless, and Bulwark). Therefore, having them stand off actually works to the Empire's advantage, since the majority of their craft have their best Turbolaser/Ion ratings in the forward arc. The Rebels really only have two ships that flourish in the "Stand Off" tactic, those being the Nebulon-B and the Bulwark. Yet the only Imperial ship set up to promote broadsides is the Dreadnaught, and only three craft have Port/Starboard Turbolaser ratings above 100 (Vicstar1, ImpstarII, SSD). This doesn't mean that Alliance ships are incapable of fighting ships in their forward arcs, not does it mean that Imperial craft are inept if attacked from the Aft, Port or Starboard. It simply means that you should use good judgement when deploying your fleet. Use the "Surround" tactic if playing as the Rebels, and make use of the side maneuvers. Have your Bulwarks and Nebulon-B's take the frontal assault while your Assault Frigates, Dauntlesses, Mon Cal's, and CC-9600's attack from the sides. Similarly, Imperial craft excel at using the "Hammer" and "Anvil" maneuvers, being sure to keep enemy craft in their forward arcs and watching for flanking Rebel ships. I've noticed a definite difference in my fleet's performance when using similar tactics. Of course, the AI may foul everything up and you may end up with the classic "Stand Off" despite your best efforts. But the benefits, when it does work properly, are well worth the effort. TK421 Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 I just make sure I have more ships than my opponent.. plus a lot more firepower By the way, ships have a use from the start of the game, by bombarding enemy planets that are in uprising, drive away Imperial fleets, transporting personel and troops Z'anthr saves the world. Texas_Fett Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 I just make sure I have more ships than my opponent.. plus a lot more firepower A sure way to win every conflict. It sure makes for a short "Strategy" article though, doesn't it? By the way, ships have a use from the start of the game, by bombarding enemy planets that are in uprising, drive away Imperial fleets, transporting personel and troopsWell, yeah, that's kinda implied by their very nature, right? I was referring to their application in the tactical interface rather than the strategic one. Or were you talking about one of the other responses? Chimera Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 If you play rebel style, you have no need of bombardment. Simply put some good saboteurs on a corvette, send it into the imperial planet close to uprising (faster, plus you can remove and Ties that might detect your sepcops) and blow up a regiment of stormtroopers. Not only do you deprive them of 1 troop regiment to keep the people down, but the Empire loses popularity on the planet for failing to prevent sabotage (according to the manual...). That's what I meant by the domino effect... Fleets bombardment is also are inferior because they often can't work against shielded/LNR planets. PLUS, if you hit a production facility then YOU lose popularity. But each to their own. I don't scrap my initial fleet. They're good for moving people around quickly and relatively safely. But I don't add much to it at the outset. I'll build fighters to defend a key planet or too, but that's about it. Droids Rule! Fleshies Drool!
