dinochick
If you have mixed feelings, why are you named GeorgeLucasmustdie? LOL, no doubt! But I have to agree that I love him for what he created, bbut I also dissagree with a few things. But it all goes back to what he gave us. We wouldn't be talking here now if he hadn't decided to make the movies. Not to many poll options there either, ehh??!! http://www.dinochick.com/dc_saber_banner_02.gif
Jahled
Well nice to see the voting is 3 to nothing as of the time of my post. GL has been largely slated for Episode One, largely redeemed for Episode Two; and I guess we're all holding our breaths for EPisode Three... but in the larger picture I actually feel the Phantom Menice actually starts the saga well... despite JJB... We must also remember GL has also given us Indiana Jones, which was seriously excellant cinema... http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
TK421
I personally think that TPM was a great movie. Even Jar Jar couldn't change anything of that.Episode II is magnificent, and even Jar Jar is not anymore an object of irritation. Better, he has a nice role! Z'anthr saves the world. Trejiuvanat
Mixed feelings, here, I can hope that Ep III will redeem Ep I, and some of the stuff in Ep II. http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif
the_mask
Well, think about it. In EP1 JJB ruined Naboo, in EP2 he ruined the Republic, in EP3 ... I was somehow glad, that he went back to Naboo at the end of EP1, cause the rest of the galaxy seemed a bit safer from our extragalactic Urkel. But I just can't see why everyone really hated him so much. http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/5183/animated9pn.gifhttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/1778/reloadedbannerdu8.gifhttp://www.swrebellion.com/images/banners/rebellionbanner02or6.gif
Texas_Fett
Well, think about it. In EP1 JJB ruined Naboo, in EP2 he ruined the Republic, in EP3 ... I was somehow glad, that he went back to Naboo at the end of EP1, cause the rest of the galaxy seemed a bit safer from our extragalactic Urkel. But I just can't see why everyone really hated him so much. My personal take on Jar Jar is that he just simply doesn't belong in the Star Wars Universe. With Episodes 4-6, GL created a dark, Fantasy/Sci-Fi universe that resonated with millions. I won't go into all the reasons I/we like Star Wars so much (and who can really agree about what their favorite or best aspects of SW really are, anyway? ). But suffice to say, IMO GL turned Ep1 into a kids movie. Granted, the same arguement could be made for the Ewoks in Episode Six: The Muppets Take Endor...ERRRR!!!...I mean, Return of the Jedi, but at least there you actually felt for the little buggers when the Empire was blowing them to bits. No such emotion for the Gungans. Heck, I would've volunteered to join the Trade Federation for a chance to eliminate the vermin! I guess what I'm trying to say is that characters like Jar Jar, the dopey naming conventions used in Ep1 & 2, the excessively terrible dialogue (sure, the first three movies were corny, but C'MON!), the plot holes that vaporize volumes of canon material...it's all gone and ruined the Star Wars franchise for me. Sure, Rebellion is still a frequent obsession for me, but I just can't stomach the rest of it. On a side note, though, I've only really been able to really "get into" the storylines of Episodes 4-6, and those of the books up through the end of the Thrawn Trilogy. After that, it's just too much. The Clone Emperor, the whachacallit Vong...ungh. (No offense, Trej. ) But the short of it is that I feel GL has destroyed the SW franchise, and is attempting to patch things back together with EP's 2 & 3...but I don't think there's enough Bacta on Thyferra, or even the whole SW Galaxy to do the job. Texas_Fett
Well yes, but they DID work with my cousin's (on my mother's side) sister's aunt's (twice removed) god-father's father, Jango Fett, so I'm sure I could get a good reference. Jahled
Well, i've got to agree with virtually everything Texas wrote two posts back, my thoughts entirely, despite hating JJB I must confess to observing the kids in the movie theatre I saw EP I laughing in delight at his anics in the film, which is revealing really given ultimately the whole saga is a essentially geared at kids... and I must agree in simply giving up on the all the novals after the Thrawn books; from what i've read they've being getting more and more stupid, and badly writtian. But that's entirely my own point of view. While there are many elements of all the movies I have an issue with, to numerous to even touch upon here, ultimately GL has given my life a dose of sci-Fi Fantasy I have seriously warmed to, and I thank him for it. http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Texas_Fett
Oh, don't think for a minute that I'm not thankful to Mr. Lucas for creating Star Wars. He will always have my heartfelt appreciation for that. I just wish he would've stuck with his initial creation instead of turning it into this juvenile-geared pile of steaming bantha-poodoo. Jahled
Very elequantly put. I think that most Star Wars fans would agree that the ESB is the best movie of the lot. Why is that? It's the darkest of the lot, and widely agreed even among that elitest buch of untouchables known as film critics to be a seriously good film! Very dark, no Ewoks or JJBs here, just despair and deep spiritual revelations... oh, and 'Imperial March,' a Super Star Destroyer, and Imperial might as it should/would be... (how did it not translate into ROTJ? ) Jahled pauses for a moment. Wasn't TESB written and directed by someone else? http://www.jahled.co.uk/smallmonkeywars.gif
Trejiuvanat
I, as well, agree with Texas Fett, and yes and no to your question Jahled, ESB was directed by someone else ( Irvin Kershner), and the screenplay wasw made by Lawrence Kasdan and Leigh Brackett, based, of course, on GL's story. The explains the better quality of the movie, especially dialogue!ESB is, IMO, the best of the movies as well. Basically for the reasons that Jahled cited. But "deep spiritual revelations", "despair" and "imperial might" don't appeal to the younger public. I can speak for myself, while I first watched the STar Wars trilogy when I was five or six, I didn't start to like it (to really to like it) after I was twelve. At first, I'd had expected the prequel movies to be darker. They deal, after all with the decadence of a government, the erradication of the Jedi and the fall of a young and hopeful man. Instead we get Jar Jar, lots of Disney-like aliens, and dweeby love scenes. Not even the Clone Wars seem dark. We see clones battling droids. With the occasional Jedi. Except for the Jedi, both are infinitely repleacable. A most pathetic war. The political thriller part doesn't get that much emphasis. And have of Anakin's scenes in AOTC were of him in the lake district of Naboo... Bantha-poodo, indeed. http://www.swrebellion.com/~jahled/Trej/banner.gif

It has taken me a very long time to appreciate it. I use to hate it and I am just now warming up to it. It is just so dark and dark things are the last things I have needed these past few years. I agree with most of the sentaments on the prequills....lets keep our fingers crossed!! http://www.dinochick.com/dc_saber_banner_02.gif
