vOid Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 hey guys... first of all, thank you for this great mod!there might be a way to reduce some more used memory by optimizing the planets textures.major stress did some stuff over there with his star trek mod, but honestly I didn't get it exactly.just the part that he reduced the amount of memory needed for the texture but preserving the correct stretching of the texture.I just checked the size of the planet texture included in SOAGE and SOA and yours are nearly double the size, but give some weird stretching at the poles of the planets.I don't know if you already considered this to be included, but in my opinion every MB saved in RAM is a minute worth of gameplay damn those limitations. cheers
Lavo Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 It's already been considered; in the beta the DA texture of planets has been reduced. We aren't going any further than that; as any more optimization will hurt the visual quality of planets, in part as our planets are often larger than SOA2's, and as I personally don't have anywhere near the knowledge to pull off what Stress did. The poles are unrelated to textures. Also, get LAA (link here), as this will solve memory issues. Sins of a Galactic Empire staff.
